Everything Is Clear In Our World - Ellory Pendergast - 08-17-2013

August 18, 1883

Dressed in one soft orange dress she had pursached from Italy, Ellory walked through the Fair's entrace with the maid that had come to chaperone her behind her. She hadn't really been to a Fair for quite some time, so she was excited, even if she knew that she couldn't enjoy it as if she was a child. Not that Ellory would try that. She had dressed as a young lady and she was planning to enjoy the Fair as a young lady.

She bought two small bags of Bertie Botts for her and her chaperone and then walked deeper in the Fair. There were many things to see and many games to play. For the time being, she decided to just walk around until something really caught her interest.

Edward still had time before he had to work, so he had decided that he would take a walk to the fair in Padmore Park and just enjoy the weather and the many happy people. He knew that he could easily end up being the healer for some of the people who was there, but he had learned not to see everything as a way of getting injured, but instead keep parts of his work locked up when he was not working. It was a method that worked quite well and made it possible for him to just enjoy life and not be depressed over the many possibilities of injures that lurked everywhere.

Walking around among all the people, all with a smile on their face, made it seem like a success and then things could simply not be better in Edward’s head. He liked being around happy people when he was not working, it could be depressing working in the hospital where people often were worried, scared or angry, so the joy filled him up with energy he could use during work.

Ellory scanned her surrounding for something interesting to do, when she caught glimpse of a very familiar face. Her face instantly turned red and an awkward smile blossomed on her lips. Why did even seeing Edward made her feel so weird? Her chest always tighened and her stomach felt awkward, but she also felt happy about it.

If she was a more awkward girl, she would have probably found a way out so she wouldn't have to meet Mr. Macmillan, but she rather liked being in his company so she couldn't just do that.

"Mr. Macmillan, it is such a pleasure to see you again!" Ellory greeted once they were close to each other. She clasped her gloved hands in front of her, feeling at loss as what to do.

Edward smiled when he saw a familiar beauty seemed to be walking towards him. The orange dress did her well, she looked very beautiful and he looked forward to getting to know her better. This might be another surprise meeting, but he saw no reason to turn it down and as she got closer and greeted him he smiled and bowed slightly. “Miss Pendergast, the pleasure is all mine.” He said with a smile.

“Are you out enjoying the weather?” he asked, though it seemed clear that was exactly the situation. “Will you do me the honour of walking with me?” he asked and thought it would be interesting as well as a good way of learning just a bit more about her in the same time.

Edward Macmillan was such an attractive man. Ellory was surprised by her thoughts and she felt sligthly guilty about them. What would her parents think if they ever found out about her feelings? They would end the betrothal for sure. Ellory could not let that happen.

"The honour would be all mine." Ellory replied softly as she slid her arm around his. The closer she was to him, the more awkward she felt. But she also liked it, even if she wanted to feel more free and comfortable. How could he possibly have such effects on her? Ellory had never been the kind of girl to feel awkward when she was with boys and men.

"Some of the games make me wish I was still a child." Ellory then commented, a bit at loss of what to say around Edward. "Don't you wish that too, sometimes? You definitely do not seem too somber or unfun." She then gave him a tiny smile, but she shifted her eyes away pretty quickly. The idea of making eye-contact was suddenly a terrifying one.

OOC| Geez Ellory, Edward's not a basilisk.

Edward could not help but feel a bit proud as he now walked with a pretty young lady on his arm, a lady he was going to marry eventually, which made it allowed to walk with her like this. And the chaperone was there and Edward believed himself to be a man of honor, there would be not even the slightest hint of inappropriate things from him. “I must say your dress is very lovely.” He complimented her. He quite liked the strong colors on her, they suited her well.

When she asked if he sometimes felt like a child when he looked at the games, he just chuckled slightly. “It happens. Sometimes things in our life feel like they were better when we were children. But as we grow up, we change, and so do our way of looking at things.” He mused, before he smiled to her. “But that does not mean that you cannot enjoy it still.” He lightened up, it was easy to get caught in deep musings, but he did not think that he was completely incapable of smiling and laughing when the circumstances were right.

He liked her dress! Ellory felt her heart skip a bit and she decided that the orange dress was her favourite. She usually didn't care that much about her appearance, but she really wanted Edward to think her pretty and if he liked orange on her then she would wear as much of it as it was possible.

"I do not think I would like to be a child forever." Ellory mused. "Games were nice, true, but I feel that I can do so many more things when I grow up." Once she was older and married, she would have the freedom to do most of the things she wanted. She wouldn't have to worry about either of her parents not approving of her decisions. Only Edward would have a say in the things she did and Ellory had a feeling they would both agree on everything.

"What is your favourite game of all? Or at least the ones here at the fair." Ellory then asked. "And I can call you Edward, can't I? I feel that Mr. Macmillan and Miss Pendergast are too formal when we speak. It is not that we hate each other, right? I mean, I do not hate you and I sincerely hope that you do not either."

So far both the mint and the orange dress had been very pretty on her, but Edward was beginning to think that it had nothing to do with the dresses, but simply the fact that Ellory was pretty. Edward may not have thought of her as pretty until after the betrothal was made. He would definitely like to think of his wife as pretty, and well – Ellory was not ugly directly. Maybe he was just noticing more now than he would have to marry her.

“True, the life of an adult comes with responsibilities but also with freedom in a completely other way than the freedom of a child. I only dream back to being a child every once in a while, most of the time I am happy for my life as it is.” He admitted and smiled softly. It was true, even if he had a responsibility as a healer, then he enjoyed the freedom it was to be able to go wherever he wanted to go without worrying about asking his parents for permission or having a governess with him.

The question of his favourite game, he smiled softly. “My favourite, I have not played for years, not have had any reason to. I come here to enjoy the atmosphere, the sound of hearing other people laugh, it makes the day brighter.” He said with a smile. “No, I do not hate you. And I would not mind if you called me Edward. I simply did not wanted to make you uncomfortable in case you did not wish to reach that point yet.”

"Well, it's just a name." Ellory commented. A nice name on top of that. Edward. It had such a majestic ring to it, suited for a man like her betrothed. Edward was a quite majestic man, even if he was a humble one as well. Ellory could not really explain it, but it all made sense in her head.

"And we're cousins too, so us using our first name would not be such a crime to the etiquette." Ellory then added. Cousins were not supposed to be as close as siblings, but Ellory never called Cash 'Mr. Lestrange', so calling Edward, who was also her betrothed, 'Mr. Macmillan', seemed silly. Besides, Ellory would like to call him Edward and she'd like him to use her first name.

"All those rules can be so suffocating at times, don't you think? They can keep so many potential friends as strangers."

RE: Everything Is Clear In Our World - Edward Macmillan 2 - 08-25-2013

”Well, I am sure there are plenty of things that would be worse than the two of us calling each other by name, Ellory.” He said, trying it out, wondering how she would react to it. He thought her name was pretty, it was not a name every girl had, and he really liked that. It also meant that if he ever heard the name being said, he would react much stronger than otherwise, and immediately think of Ellory, which could mean that he would be very worried over nothing. But for now, it was easier just to accept the world.

He chuckled as she mentioned the rules. “Rules makes the world go round, and ensure that we only spend time with the people who are not trying to destroy us.” He said. “But some of them, can be quite too much. But I have learned to live with them, accept them if nothing else, in order to not ruin my family.” He admitted. There were some rules he still did not understand, but he was not rebelling them – it only gave more trouble than it was worth.

When he used her first name, she felt her heart skip several bits. The usage of first names already made her feel closer to her betrothed, even if they hardly knew that many things about each other. But they'd get to that, eventually. Ellory hoped that by the time she was old enough to marry Edward, she'd also be in love with him. She wanted them to raise their children together, to give each other comfort during the difficult times, to be companions. She could already feel fondness for the young man and she hoped that was a step to the right direction.

"I suppose the responsibility must be bigger for you, considering that you are the eldest." Ellory commented. For many years, Ellory considered herself the black sheep of the family. And she still did, but she had at least tried to be more like the girl her mother wanted her to be. She had become a prefect and she had adopted traits and manners that upper class girls should have.

"I was a handful when I was a child, though I think I've changed for the better. You certainly do not have to worry about me embarassing you once we're married."

He smiled as she seemed to like the use of her name. He promised himself that he would make sure to use it some more if she seemed so happy because of it. He believed it would be easy to be married to her eventually but he would take the time, there were still to years until it would be respectable to even think about the marriage and what would happen after. Edward was not in any hurry about that, as beautiful as Ellory was, then he was not going to push until they were married.

“My responsibility is not bigger than I can deal with it. It will be bigger once the time comes for our marriage, but that time – that worry.” He said with a soft smile. He would be used to the thought of being a husband and a father by the time they would get married, so he was not worried. “I am sure you will not be any problems, dear Ellory. If you act as well as you do now, then I am sure everyone will be jealous of my beautiful young polite wife.” He said with an assuring smile, he was sure that there would be no problem.

RE: Everything Is Clear In Our World - Ellory Pendergast - 08-26-2013

He had called her dear Ellory. Dear Ellory. That sounded as good as someone telling her that she was elected the Minister of Magic. If he called her 'dear Ellory' then he clearly liked her and cared about her and that made her so happy! Stupidly happy! If she was alone in her bedroom she'd likely dance and sing, but they were in public so she would have to hide her joy.

"Y-you think?" Ellory asked awkwardly, a smile trembling on her lips. She looked at his face for a few seconds before she took them away once more. It was unually hard to make sure that she walked gracefully and that she didn't smile like a fool when he told her such things! "Well, I hope I'll them a reason to be jealous. Edward."

”I do not doubt so. You will be a beautiful wife, a wonderful person in the society. I do not doubt that you will do both our families honor.” He said with a smile. He could not see why a daughter of aunt Olivia would ever be a problem to him. If he could deal with Charles then he was sure he could deal with Ellory as well. And Ellory was much more gentle and easy to talk with than Charles was. He really doubted that it would be a problem.

“Is there any game you would like to try?” he asked with a smile hoping that it would make her smile again. He would like to hear her laugh, he was sure that it would be very melodically and sound like a chime.

RE: Everything Is Clear In Our World - Ellory Pendergast - 08-26-2013

How could she possibly be worried about her betrothal when she was to marry someone like Edward? He made her feel happy with his so kind words and Ellory was sure that their marriage would be a good one. They would understand each other, they could even love each other, but then, most marriages were not supposed to be out of love so it was foolish for her to think that her husband might like her.

"We could play the one with the hoops?" Ellory suggested as she spotted a tent of the game a little in front of them. "We could try to win stuffed animals for each other!"

RE: Everything Is Clear In Our World - Edward Macmillan 2 - 08-27-2013

Edward smiled and looked at Ellory, things were definitely going to be well in the future. He would definitely not be complaining about his wife so to him things were simple. But until he knew for certain that Ellory held some kind of fondness or love for him, he was not going to show much feeling for her. Though he had already a certain amount of fondness for her, he wanted to make sure that she was happy and safe.

“If you wish.” He said with a smile and gently led her to the tent. “An attempt for me, and an attempt for the pretty young lady.” He said and quickly paid. “Though I do not need a stuffed animal to remember you.” He said softly to Ellory. “I am sure your beautiful smile will be something I see whenever I close my eyes, even while you are at Hogwarts”
