Blanche Chaucer vs. Frederick Humphrey-Mavis - Jonathan Webster - 12-06-2014

How and why had he gotten roped into this? Jon was confused. Perhaps someone had discovered that he spent his afternoons doing very little? He suspected that it was partly because whatever obliviator was moderating duels had puttered off to... obliviate things.... but still wasn't sure why anyone had thought of him.

Whatever.

"Miss Chaucer -" Miss Chaucer! Jon flashed her a bright smile "- will begin, with Lord Corcrest to follow."

Ooh, Mr. Webster! This might turn out to be nearly as nervewracking as being judged by the actual Minister of Magic. She dipped into a polite curtsy, and placed a black cloak on the floor before her, ready to begin. Raising her wand, Blanche tried to transfigure the cloak into a colourful macaw that would fly around the room.

Hey look it was Jon. Hopefully this would end better than the last time he'd seen him, which may or may not have involved a bar crawl, losing an election and buying a lion. Oops.

With that in mind, Freddie attempted to turn his dummy into a lion cub like Cat.

BAR CRAWL BAR CRAWL BAR CRAWL

The macaw still had a hood like a cloak whereas the lion takes the road. "Fr -" fuck "- Lord Corcrest takes the round, and may begin the next!"

Freddie tried not to snigger at Jon's announcement and once the dummy was no longer in lion form he attempted to set it on fire.

Oh dear. Undoing her last not-entirely-successful spell, Blanche tried once again to transfigure the cloak, this time perhaps into an elegant orchid plant.

Freddie's spell sparked but failed, whereas Miss Chaucer's orchid was excellent. Jon smiled brightly at the deb and resisted - albeit barely - the desire to smirk at his friend.

"Miss Chaucer takes the round and may begin our tie-breaker," he announced.

So she had not been a hopeless loss, at the very least! Deciding she may as well try something a little trickier this time, Blanche attempted to transfigure the orchid into a water fountain, but silently.

Damn. It was lucky there were other people there or Freddie would have been tempted to flash a jesting hand sign at Jon.

As it was, he satisfied himself with attempting an antler jinx. He’d gone round with a pair for a day or so, and had discovered that whilst useful for hanging coats, antlers weren’t conducive to getting through doorways, or really anything else for that matter.

Both spells came out a bit mediocre this time around, but Freddie's was just a little bit better-executed. "The round and the duel go to Lord Corcrest!" Jon announced, "Commiserations, Miss Chaucer."
