Brothers be - Felix Parkinson I - 12-15-2014

Felix wasn't exactly stoked on having to have a chaperon for the ball. He was of the legal age after all and even though he had in the past made some inadvisable mistakes he hardly felt it should be held over his head for the rest of eternity. But Felix knew it wasn't just him being punished, all the Hogwarts students had had to be accompanied by a chaperoned in order to attend.

And at least he like his brother Orpheus.

"So how are you feeling after that whole bridge incident?" Felix asked curiously, he hadn't really had much time as of late to catch up with his brother and in fact the last time he'd seen Orpheus was right after the quarantine ended and just before Felix went back to Hogwarts.

Felix hadn't even gotten the time to visit his brother during his brief stay in the hospital which he felt rather awful about.

@Orpheus Parkinson
@Annette Fontaine

“I was right as rain within a few hours of the incident.” Orpheus replied. “They only kept me in as a precaution because I caught a fever- they’re still rather cautious after the summer.” He shrugged. Miss Yaxley had come off worse really, but Orpheus hadn’t enjoyed all of his valet’s fussing. The man was very protective to say the least.

Orpheus took a glass of champagne from a passing waiter as he looked around. Quidditch was really out of his comfort zone, and balls were scarcely more familiar. “Look on the bright side- at least mother isn’t here.” Orpheus teased.

Felix glanced curiously as his brother grabbed a flute of champagne from a passing waiter. He was tempted to grab one himself and doubted Orpheus would care much, he was of age after all. But for the time being Felix decided it was best that he could prove restraint.

"Well it was a good thing you where there I suppose" From the rumors going around Orpheus' presences on the bridge had likely save the young ladies life, even if he would never admit it.

Felix let out a sight of relief at his brothers comment. The last time he'd really been out and about in a social setting with his mother was at her ball when she was running for Minister. Besides Miss. Fontaine accidentally trying to string him up by his tie the whole event was rather uneventful and it was boring have to be on ones best behavior. Mother had a way of ... cowing you into submission with just a look that always gave Felix the chills.

" Yes, I'd have to agree with that" Felix said brightly but he decided to change the subject quickly for fear that their mother might some how hear them talking about her and descend upon him

"Have you gotten a chance to move back into blacks?" Felix asked casually not really sure of where his brother had taken up residences lately. He'd been too busy with studying for NEWTs, playing quidditch and running the Dueling club to have know if Black has been rebuilt yet or not.

“There’s no evidence there even is a debutante killer.” Orpheus replied placidly. He wasn’t one for rumours, and wasn’t pleased to hear that this seemed to be fuelling them. “So many debutantes were traumatised over the summer it is no wonder they are so distracted as to keep falling in the street, as tragic as it may be. The bridge was probably weakened over the summer too- who knows, maybe the plague is having after affects or something that surface under the pressure a debutante is under to find a match.” No, Orpheus certainly wasn’t one for idle gossip and hysteria.

“I moved back into Black’s for a month or so once Ministry Officials were allowed through the quarantine.” He explained. “That was whilst my house and the one next to it were demolished and my solicitor went through buying the now empty extended plot so I could build a bigger house, but as soon as at least part of it was done I moved in.” He’d spent most of his savings on the additional plot and the rebuild costs, though he now had a very fine and large house and gardens to show for it- much more than he would otherwise have been able to afford. “Most of it is now done, though I confess my staff are still rather lacking.”

RE: Brothers be - Felix Parkinson I - 01-07-2015

Felix shrugged, he wasn't usually one for gossip but when it concerned his family he took note. Though as expected his brother was all to humble about the situation which Felix had to admit to himself was inspiring. Felix was not fond of overly boisterous individuals and perhaps that was a result of growing up the way he did with a mother and a brother who were the opposite of flashy, vain or egocentric.

Personally Felix doubted that the bridge had been "weakened", though he was no structural engineer what little he did know of physics and masonry suggested that a bridge wouldn't simply fall apart, let alone the hypothetical statistical probability that such structural inadequacies would neither be seen too by the ministry and would "coincidentally" occur at the exact time and moment his brother was standing on it was ...a bit of a stretch for Felix's pragmatic mind to accept, but he dropped the subject any ways.

"Well you shall have to have us all over for dinner when its done then I would think" Felix said having been too busy with school to visit his brothers new residences.

"I'm sure mother will loan you some staff, not that you or we really need any of it" Felix added, he was fond of doing things himself and though he had to admit he'd probably die without a cook around it wasn't for a lack of desire to prepare his own meals, he simply had never learned how.

Orpheus nodded. “I even managed to squeeze in a room for duelling- I confess that when I marry it shall probably be commandeered as a small ballroom, but for now I have room to practice.” He’d become rather more focussed on his duelling practice since the bridge incident, though he’d always rather enjoyed it.

“My staff is perfectly fine for me, though I doubt it would be enough to serve a whole family- thankfully I expect I shall have time before I have to think of such matters!”

RE: Brothers be - Felix Parkinson I - 01-27-2015

"Dueling!?" Felix said with a chuckle, he'd never known his brother to be overly into dueling though he did know that Orpheus participated in every competition he could recall and Felix had to admit did fairly well in most of them.

"Well if you ever need a partner as you well know I am quite fond of Dueling, much more so than dancing" Felix declared implying they should get as much practice out of the space as possible before it became a ballroom though, to Felix's knowledge his brother wouldn't be getting married any time soon.

" No Debutantes chasing you down after that last article about you?" Felix teased gently knowing his brother to be rather humble but even Felix had been asked at Hogwarts if it were true about his brothers curls.

RE: Brothers be - Orpheus Parkinson - 02-11-2015

“I’m sure there is no need to rush to use the room, for I daresay it won’t be commandeered for a fair while yet.” Orpheus conceded lightly. He certainly hadn’t got his eyes on anyone, and he was hardly someone to rashly enter into something as serious as matrimony. “I would hate to give you an excuse to fall out of practice with your dancing, however- the coming out ball isn’t that far away, and whilst it is hardly like you’re in a position to hunt for a wife, it wouldn’t do for you to be a wallflower during it.”

The mention of the dratted Witch weekly caused the wizard to give a small but audible sigh. “No debutantes, thankfully, but the secretaries at work are another matter entirely. I suppose they lack the subtlety of the debutantes, though I’d rather not know their opinions on all of it.”

RE: Brothers be - Felix Parkinson I - 02-14-2015

"Dancing?" Felix asked raising an eyebrow. Dancing was hardly the first thing on his mind. He had NEWTs to study for, the Dueling club to run and he the Pan magical games was nearing, even if he didn't participate in them - which he dearly hoped he did- Felix was sure he'd be very distracted cheering on his fellow team mates. Besides... there was really only one person he wanted to dance with and he really didn't see that happening. Not after....

Felix pushed the thought away and said " Well I suppose Ill have to get Sis to start teaching me then" He said casually. Felix was sure she'd love nothing more than to teach him out to dance, but he doubted that either of them would get much time to do so.

Felix chuckled lightly at his brothers response " I am sure mother is livid with your curls distracting all the female ministry employees and decreasing work place productivity, at least in her own department" Felix said grinning broadly. The last time he'd been in their mothers department it hadn't been a very pleasurable visit. Felix had run into one of his school mates, an intern who was .... rather difficult he'd decided.

RE: Brothers be - Orpheus Parkinson - 02-19-2015

“Whether you like it or not, dancing is a skill a man must have.” Orpheus reminded. He didn’t particularly like dancing but he’d worked to make sure he was tolerable- after all, the ministry held balls occasionally and it hardly helped your employment chances if you crippled the head of department’s daughter or trampled the minister’s wife.

He pulled a face at the mention of being distraction. “Fortunately my department is on the opposite side of the ministry from Mother’s.” Not that Orpheus had chosen it because of that, nope. “And I have my own office now, so at least I’m not in full view of all the secretaries.”

RE: Brothers be - Felix Parkinson I - 02-25-2015

"There seems like far more practical things to practice brother. I can see the social pragmatism to such things and I promise not to to embarrass the but... "He trailed off, it hardly seemed to matter when any love interest he currently had was simply a fool hardy thought, enforced by the rigors of that same systematic society. It would be years before Felix was in a position to need to impress any women, and by then it was more likely than not that the only one he really did want to impress would long since be married. But Felix hardly wanted to waste his brothers time with such nonsense.

"Well at this rate Drommy is going to be married before you brother" Felix joked lightly

RE: Brothers be - Orpheus Parkinson - 02-27-2015

Orpheus gave a small and only just perceptible intake of breath at the mention of Drommy getting married. He was pretty sure his mother didn’t even know about Andromeda and Javert, let alone Felix, and whilst Orpheus had privately reconciled with and accepted the thought, it wasn’t something he particularly wanted to dwell on whilst in public.

“Well, that’s hardly the surprise- she was born just before my fifth birthday, and whilst I am only just reaching marriageable age, come May she’ll have been out for five years.” Orpheus pointed out. “It would be more of a surprise if I were to get married first.”

RE: Brothers be - Felix Parkinson I - 03-05-2015

Felix shrugged lightly, he'd never given much attention to what the social norm. " I suppose you'r right, it just feels weird to know that we might soon loose Drommy to another family." He said in reply. He wasn't really found of seeing his big sister leaving the family estate for another's house hold. Though, if Felix was perfectly honest with him self he wasn't really sure where even he'd been at the end of graduation.

He had little desire to stay at home with his Mother and younger brother. They were family of course and he loved them but they could be a little smothering. And through the typhoon that was Felix's desires for the emotions he honestly didn't know what he wanted to do after school, but his heart felt as if it were leading him else where, though perhaps he was actually mistaking that feeling for the his desire to be with another.

Felix was quite a moment in thought. Either way perhaps in the end he could stay with his older brother, that might not be so bad, Especially with a dueling arena ...

" Orpheus... what did you do right after Hogwarts? Did you star working of the ministry immediately ?" Felix asked curiously, though it really wasn't that long ago Felix could only remember the arguments his mother and brother use to have before the later moved out.

RE: Brothers be - Orpheus Parkinson - 03-07-2015

“I doubt she’d be going very far.” Orpheus pointed out. He was hardly going to allow his sister to be sent away to Timbuctoo or something. “After all, Javert l-” Shit. He probably ought not to have said that. He glanced around hastily. “You didn’t hear that.” Orpheus added quickly. “Do not breathe a word of it. Especially to mother.” Oh Christ.

He quickly turned conversation back to more safe grounds. “I went to intern in law enforcement, but after a year I moved to the department of transportation.” Orpheus replied.

RE: Brothers be - Felix Parkinson I - 03-07-2015

An eye brow of Felix's slowly arched at the mention of Javert. He knew the man to be a friend of his brothers and Felix had even had a few correspondences with the man when he was interested in becoming an Auror not long ago. Felix figured it was an odd moment to mention the mans name until it dawned on him the context of the conversation at which point his jaw noticeable opened and he gaped wide eye at his brother in shock.

"What..." He was about to ask something of his brother- though he honestly didn't know what- when he was cut off by Orpheus' demands that he keep what he'd just heard a secret.

Stunned he simply nodded his head. Was his sister really getting married? Realizing his mouth still hung open he slowly closed it hopping that no one thought him a fool, thought that hardly mattered at the moment.

Felix had been about to try and start up some deep physiological conversation with his brother about women, and life choices that would have eventually lead to asking Orpheus for some serious brotherly advice. But that had all been derailed now.

" Wait... when?" Was all Felix asked as he turned to face his brother.

RE: Brothers be - Orpheus Parkinson - 03-07-2015

Orpheus gave a small groan and ran his hand distractedly through his curls. He walked his brother over to a quieter area of the room where they wouldn’t be heard before continuing. “This does not get mentioned again.” He warned sternly. “Not to Mother, not to Drommy, not to Mordred, to nobody. Regardless of whether you’ve been drinking.” Orpheus was mentally kicking himself, and he’d physically kick his brother if this got out.

“You remember how I stayed in the theatre dressing rooms with Javert this summer? Well, I went out for the paper one morning and when I came back in, Javert had one of Andromeda’s handkerchiefs. I first thought he’d found it or taken it from what I’d saved from Mother’s house, but it turned out our sister had sent it to him. I wrote to Drommy, and she feels the same way.” He explained quietly.
