My Heart is the Sea - Meredith Crowninshield - 10-15-2017
London was bustling. There were so many people and after being on ships for a majority of her life, walking on land was challenge enough. She looked outlandish as she crossed from muggle to magical London. She moved swiftly enough to remain away from the detection of prying eyes. Though being American as well as dressing in male clothing while obviously being a woman was cause enough for people to stare.
She was just trying to explore and take in all the sights. She looked up to the sky to look at all the signs and architecture and was off in her own world when she felt a collision with something else... someone else. Meredith blinked and staggered back. She frowned. "American," she apologized. "I'm exploring."
RE: My Heart is the Sea - Justus Pilliwickle - 10-18-2017
Thanks to the progress he'd made on one of his current cases, Justus was in a rare good mood. Usually he'd be in dimly lit corner brooding over a dry tome of ancient laws but the dark cloud hanging over his head had been banished for today. As such, he felt like stretching his legs before he got the morbs again.
He started walking aimlessly, trusting that his feet would take him somewhere worthwhile. As he went on, his mind started to drift and his head was properly in the clouds when he bumped into someone. Justus was startled out of his daze, responding to the woman's words on autopilot, well before his brain was ready. "Hello Exploring, I'm Justus."
Wait, what?
He blinked.
"What? No, I mean - uh - you're American?"
Christ, he was hopeless.

Meredith couldn't help herself. She let out a snort of laughter. "An American, rather," she replied. "So, Justus?" she started. "You don't happen to work in law do you?"
She giggled. "Meredith," she introduced. "You from nearby? Could you show me?" There was sincerity in her tone now. She was so foreign to British ideals surely she'd sound like a savage regardless. She hated that word, and to align herself with that ideology. "Things are very different here than in the States," Meredith admitted. "I will apologize for any slight, it is unintentional."

Oh thank goodness, she was laughing. Justus breathed a sigh of relief. He couldn't imagine what he'd have done if she'd been offended by his blathering.
"I'm a lawyer, actually. An unfortunate consequence of the name." He gave her a crooked, apologetic smile.
"Pleasure to meet you, Miss Meredith." At least he could remember some of his manners. "I live not too far from here. What would you want to see?" He'd never shown anyone around London, but he wasn't busy and it was the least he could do to make up for his bizarre introduction. "Don't worry about it, I'm quite difficult to offend." He'd grown up with people who'd had worse manners and he wasn't the type to judge someone for that sort of thing anyway.

"How unfortunate!" Meredith exclaimed. "A lawyer named Justus. Your parents must have expected the world from you. And that is exactly what I would love to see; the world that is." She gave a half-smile. "So please, lead on, and tell me what you know of this place. London is very different from Boston. If you find me across the pond, remind me I'll owe you a pint and a tour."
ooc: sorry for the belatedness and the length!

"Oh I don't know about that," Justus laughed. "I think my mother just liked the name." He knew his father hadn't been a factor in the decision making at all (unless, for some inexplicable reason, his mother had chosen to name him after the man) and he'd never bothered asking his mother why she'd named him as she had. Even if he wanted to know now, it was too late.
Justus pushed aside the unnecessarily depressing thoughts that had started to come to him and decided to focus on the woman in front of him, pretty and presently asking for a tour. Or, as much of one as he was fit to give.
"I'll keep you offer in mind. Admittedly, I'm not one for exploring, but I've lived in the city for a few years and that makes learning about it unavoidable." He tried to think of what landmarks or places of significance they were near and came up short. However, he figured that if he started walking in a direction he'd come across something reasonably interesting. So, that was what he did. "London is ... a hodgepodge of eccentricity and tradition. It's a paradox, really. Everything's constantly changing, but there's so much that stays the same as well. There's history everywhere, blended right in with the modern and the mundane."
He almost snorted at his description of the city. When had he gotten so poetic about it? "It can be amazing. It can also be the worst place on Earth, depending on where you are or the company you keep." Justus shrugged. "For better or worse, though, it's home right now and I do have a certain fondness for it. Is that useful to you at all?" He'd try and come up with more specifics later. A general overview seemed like the best place to start for a new visitor.
