Charming is a Victorian Era Harry Potter roleplay set primarily in the village of Hogsmeade, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the non-canon village of Irvingly. Characters of all classes, both magical and muggle — and even non-human! — are welcome.

Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
Sisse didn't think she had never felt more exhausted in her short life, she was quite sure of it. Her eyelids felt as if they had become lead and stubbornly refused to stay open. At home she had had lessons throughout the day, yet they had been nothing like this - the constant changing to classes, traveling through the endless castle with a bunch of fellow first years she hardly knew, classes with subjects she had hardly ever considered to be subjects before. Subjects and classes which had proved to be rather more interesting than expected for someone like herself who had never exactly paid the perfect attention to her lessons beyond dancing and etiquette. It was all rather, well, exhausting.
By the time supper had rolled around even the Great Hall with its enchanted ceiling and array of foods could hardly convince Sisse's eyes to remain open. She had loved her day, everything about it, however, she had not been prepared for how very very tired it would make her.
Around her her classmates chattered, a string of happy statements that Sisse could hardly concentrate on. She had to stay awake, it would be terribly rude to fall asleep at the table, especially over her pudding, or even her meat pudding! She poked a fork into her dish an half an attempt to eat something, a small frown on her lips as she contemplated the wisdom of not simply staying in her dorm and retiring early. The young girl was so lost in her thoughts she did not hear one of her classmates address her, and found herself looking at them with a confused glance and asking, "Pardon?"
Sloane was, as always, a bundle of energy. No matter how many classes she'd had to sit through, she sat and gave them as much attention as young first-time student could give. History of Magic was a stretch, but oh Defense Against the Dark Arts! That one she would not have a hard time paying attention in! Plus, the buzz of the Great Hall after the first day of classes was positively electric!
With her head on a swivel, Sloane was trying to chat with anybody and everybody about anything that came up! There was so much going on, it was hard to focus on just one thing, but she was trying to make sure she didn't leave anybody out. Everybody kept switching conversations though, so she didn't feel too bad about swapping in and out of things as she went.
Not to mention she had to eat! For once, there was plenty of food and she didn't have to fend off four older brothers to eat! There were of course, far more people than that here, but there was so much food she didn't think they'd be running out any time soon. She was so content her hair had a yellow tinge to it and she didn't even care! "Sisse!" She turned to her roommate next to her, but it appeared her fellow lion was half asleep! "Sisse may I have the potatoes, please?" They were so gooood!
The beginning of his second had not been as nearly as exciting as his first, but he'd still been anxious to learn things he hadn't learned last year. After being stuck with his muggle parents all summer long without the use of his wand, Cameron was incredibly happy to be able to hold it once more.
He was seated at the Gryffindor table across from two of the tiny first year girls, watching them with curiosity as they interacted. He'd met two of them already — the odd Lestrange and then the girl from Godric's Hollow that he'd met even before finding out that he was a wizard — but he was fairly confident he hadn't spoken to the two in front of him.
When one of the girls asked for the potatoes, the second year immediately took the chance to reach across the table to hand little bowl to the girl.
"Here you go!" he said, a smile stretched across his face.
Sloane had been trying to gain Sisse’s attention. In the past few days since Sisse had met her charming roommate at the Sorting, Sisse had discovered how much energy the young girl had. For the most part Sisse had kept up with the constant energy and chatter but today was different. Sisse was use to only two other pupils in the room, and honestly her lessons hadn't felt nearly as rigorous or fast paced as the ones she had encountered today. Yet even the first day of classes had done little to dampen her new friend's high energies. She hoped Sloane wouldn't think her terribly rude, if it had been anyone else Sisse likely would have flushed a deep pink, instead replied with as bright an “Of course.” as she could muster.
Reaching for the bowl automatically Sisse brushed hands with the person across from her reaching for the bowl at well. Startled she looked up to meet a young boy’s eyes and flushed at the realization, moving her hand too hastily and knocking the platter on its side. Her cheeks turned a cherry red as mashed potatoes flipped in thick mud-like close from the dish onto the scarlet tablecloth. Mortified Sisse took in the mess, her small pale hand flying to her lips to hide her shocked ‘o’.
“Oh no. I am sorry ! I do apologize, it seems my manners have escaped me. ” Sisse’s eyes darted between her two fellow classmates, her remorse obvious on her face.
Sloane had been momentarily distracted by a loud laugh nearby and, curious as she was, she naturally leaned to look. Her governess often called her nosy, but she was just intrigued by everything! As soon as she looked back to her housemates, she was being handed the potatoes and Sisse's cheeks were red. Whatever for, Sloane didn't know, but she accepted the food graciously.
"Thank you both!" She chirped toward her roommate and the older boy who had offered the potatoes. "Are you a second year?" She asked of the boy. He wasn't in their year, but he couldn't be to much older than them either? She couldn't really tell, but it was a guess! "I'm Sloane Bixby by the way!" She had no idea if anyone knew her brothers around here, but she also worried that some of their teachers might hold that against her.
Not one to dwell on the negative, Sloane piled potatoes onto her plate and eyed her roommate, wondering if Sisse had woken up a little. It had been a long, exciting day, so Sloane couldn't really hold it against her roomie.
"I am a second year! The name's Cameron Gillenwater — it's nice to meet you," he said with a smile. The girls — especially the fully-conscious Miss Bixby — seemed very friendly, and he didn't get a vibe that told him to watch himself. Perhaps they could be friends!
"Are you both from magical families? Do you have siblings here? I'm a muggleborn, you see," he explained, not fearing that these Gryffindors would have anything bad to say about his heritage.
To Sisse’s eternal gratitude Sloane and the boy both ignored her clumsy incident. She was quickly coming to realize that Sloane could talk to anyone with an amazing amount of energy and charm. Forcing her eyes open slightly wider, Sisse vowed to be just as charming and awake as her friend. She smiled at his introduction, cursing herself for a less than charming demeanor before, Cameron, as he had introduced himself seemed very nice. Much nicer than her older brother Matthew, who really was the only other older boy Sisse had truly met. “It’s very nice to meet you too, I’m Sisse Thompsett.” She smiled and waited for him to ask a question before she took a dainty bite of roast beef before her.
Cameron seemed to match Sloane for enthusiasm and Sisse, not one to seem less than charming and sociable than her companions, smiled as brightly as she could muster and responded to his questions. “I am. My older brother is a fourth year here. Matthew Thompsett. He’s also a Gryffindor. My little brother is only ten, but he'll start next year. Do you have any siblings?”
"It's nice to meet you!" Sloane chirped, following Sisse's lead on the conversation. She waited for her new friend to answer before jumping in. "I do too, my brother Wallace is a fourth year and my brother Harrison is a seventh year! I also have two brothers who have graduated. My brother Alvin is an apprentice broommaker and Rufus plays quidditch!" So many brothers!
"My whole family is a little quidditch crazy." That was a bit of an understatement, but really, people would learn in time.

"I have plenty of siblings, but they're all muggles to my information. I'm the only one who's showed a sign of magic so far, but I've been told there's usually only one witch or wizard in a muggleborn's family," he said sadly, wishing one of his siblings could join him at the school. While he sort of enjoyed having the school all to himself, summers were lonely and boring with him having no one to discuss the contents of the school year with.
Cameron turned to Miss Bixby to respond.
"I love quidditch! I didn't even know about it until last year — you know, when I was introduced to the magical world — but I love it! I've always wanted to play quidditch, too," he explained excitedly, knowing that he'd once again be trying out of the quidditch team.
Sloane certainly had a lot of brothers! Sisse wasn’t sure she could handle more than the two she already had. Although she had always wanted another sister. The one time she had mentioned it to her mother she had told Sisse to count her blessings, although Sisse wasn’t sure Henry and Matthew were blessings. She turned her attention to Cameron curious out being muggleborn. She had never met anyone who was muggleborn that she knew of. At least not one she was actually allowed to ask questions of. Her parents’ frowned on asking questions at dinner parties they occasionally hosted. She’d heard it time and time again children to be seen not heard.
“Really?” Sisse leaned forward slightly more awake with her curiosity. “What do your siblings think of you going to a different school than them?” Her head tilted slightly to the side with her question. She had a dozen more forming at the tip of her tongue but she bit them back. It wasn’t lady like to ask too many questions.
Sisse smiled as the conversation turned to quidditch. She liked the game well enough, but after the age of seven her mother had insisted it was unlady like to admit it and as such she had tried to find other interests. She was discovering that might not have been wise with as many of her classmates who wanted to discuss quidditch with her. “Will you be trying out for the team?” She asked the older boy, already knowing that her friend planned to try out for the team. It seemed like at least half of the first years were trying out.
Sloane rather thought that muggleborns were fascinating, but quidditch was her love! Though she was curious about how about being muggleborn would have been growing up, Sloane also knew that asking would have been a little rude. At least Sisse's question wasn't too personal!
"Oh yes, quidditch! Are you going to try out? Did you try out last year? I don't even know what to expect, my brothers won't tell me!" They really were not help in that regard!

Both girls seemed equally enthusiastic about quidditch, and he was happy to oblige with their request to talk about quidditch at Hogwarts. "I tried out last year, yes! It's very difficult for a first year to get onto the team," he warned with a solemn smile. "I plan on trying out again this year, yes! I hope that my practice with the Flying Club will make MacFusty add me to the roster. I don't need to get too cocky, though."
The conversation quickly slid into quidditch and only quidditch and Sisse felt as if her question had gotten lost in the fray. She shouldn't mind though, her mother had always told her conversation flowed on it's own. Instead Sisse ignored the questions about being a muggle and listened to the conversation.
Flying Club. Now that sounded like something she would really enjoy. Being on a broom, flying about the skies. Would her parents think it was lady like? She wondered. Likely not. She suspected it fell under the category of quidditch and female aurorers.
