    Magical Nationalism?
    #1
I'm taking a 19th century history class this semester and it's really given me a new perspective for the times our game takes place. The 19th century was the age of nationalism and the birth of nations etc. A nation is a group of people united by a common past, culture, etc. In the 19th century many ethnic groups fought to make their own nations/countries and thus translate this idea into a political entity.

With that in mind, I had this idea that @'Priam Lestrange' on the new board could be part of some magical group that thinks wizards should have their own nation/country. Some of them are purist, others aren't necessarily hardcore purists but they still would rather have their own secret magical country than live in secret in an existing country. They think of themselves as 'wizards' first and then as British, French, whatever.

I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in being part of this! I don't imagine that they'd be taken well and I don't have any plans for Priam & co to do some kind of Carbonari-esque revolution to try and seize Britain from the muggles and make their own country or whatever. xP

This is also a very raw idea, so I'm welcome to suggestions as to how to make this seem more... genuine. But that's the basic idea.

I REALLY LOVE THIS; ONE OF MY ON-BOARD CHERISHED THINGS IS THAT NATIONALISM IS A VERY VERY RECENT CONCEPT

National movements really started being born in about the 1820s-1840s - this is why Greek/Italian/German unification started being movements around then but took a couple decades to really get off the ground -- it's possible/plausible that this could be inspired by those movements?

IIRC a lot of the "Young [whatevers]" movements had socialist bents as well so there could be a bit of a class aspect either way; German unification for example prioritized the upper class but I beliiiieve that the Young Irelanders and some others were leftish. Not sure though.

    PRIAM SHOULD SUPPORT THE EXPEDITION.

On a quest to find an island that has been hidden away from the Muggle world for centuries and finding the last King who was totally cool with magic. =P IDK how he actually feels about King Arthur but this seems like the perfect way to start a wizarding nation. xD

Ohh this reminds me of Idris - as a random side note.
I'm not sure who I have that would be down for this and actually have any say but I really like the idea!
iziza is a half-goblin, meaning she is quite short. your character might not know why but they will notice her height and white hair that marks her as such.

    OMG I KINDA LOVE THIS

only problem is that I was thinking that this could be a New Charming thing, so it'd be a pre-established thing for Priam. I guess I can tweak him now and make his ~Priam becomes weird~ thing that. IDT any Lestranges will object? we've already established he's weird. xD

    @'Aldous Crouch' @'Cassius Lestrange' @'Elsie Beauregard' @'Nephele Lestrange' @'Frida Lestrange' @'Annette Fontaine' /and co Lestrange players

I don't need any threads/involvement from him in the near future if that helps? Like you can do whatever you want on that front until we switch boards and then we can just *jedi hand wave* this was always the way it was.

Alright! We can revisit him funding the expedition on New Charming!

In the meantime, anyone want to retcon their characters into a magical nationalist group? ;)

I have no one but I now want to make a Antony Hopkins faced man to be totally on board with this!
