It scarcely seemed real. Even now, two days later and with the written proof in his jacket pocket that his sister was already planning celebrations, Konstantin could barely bring himself to believe that the righteous had been victorious and Ross was to take office.
He had been so sure, though he has never voiced it, that the old guard would prevail. They seemed to be everywhere one turned but there were progressives out there and they had done their part in securing a just future.
Ross would never be Urquart of course. Family or not Kons would be loyal to his Minister forever, but this was more than he could have ever hoped for; his heart rejoiced that justice and sense had won and his head was already thinking of the opportunities this might present to him. It was with both head and heart full of joy that he stepped into the lift that morning, smile infectious and permanent.
