Lesson One. Qedma cracked his large knuckles as he did a final once over his classroom to make sure everything was ready. It was a large room, with six tall windows on his left hand side. One of the first things he had done after moving into Hogwarts was add colour to the dour grey room by putting tapestries of his favourite creatures on the walls. They were large, colourful, and enchanted to move and act as living animals. Occasionally the tapestries would make a snort, growl or bark. But they were rather quiet today, in fact the Unicorn and Hippogriff were sleeping. The only noise that could be heard in the room was the movement of chitin legs tapping on the floor, and the snap of large claws.
Professor Bakaffa, as he now was, could hear his students lining up outside of the classroom. He carefully smoothed out his emerald robes. The lesson was to begin in just under five minutes. He was excited to get going, and welcoming the students back from their Christmas Break. Just before opening the door he walked over to the four cages at the front of the room. Each was large, made of magically reinforced steel, with a Fire crab inside. Their shells were studded with beautiful jewels of different shapes and colours. They varied in size, age and sex. The youngest an immature male, the eldest a gigantic female.
Once he was sure the cages were secure he went to greet the students. He pulled hard on the wooden door and walked into the corridor. ''Please come in, and take your seats.'' Qed had not prearranged seating in any way, though he was prepared to change that if the need arose. He walked stiffly back into his room, his long flowing robes trailing behind him, and waited silently as students arrived and took their places. The Fire crabs heard the noise and began to move around in their cages. One snapped at the steel bars.
''Good morning everyone. My name is Professor Bakaffa. Unfortunately the previous Professor has had to leave Hogwarts. It is my hope that all of you, at the very least, pass your Care of Magical Creature OWLS exams. I will work hard to help you do so. But I warn you now, that my class will be academically challenging...though I hope you will also find it stimulating.'' He waved to the creatures that were the focus of the lesson. ''Let us begin then,'' he smiled. ''Can anyone tell me what these creatures are? And, bonus question, where they originate?''
OOC: I imagine this thread takes place within the first few days of students returning to school!
