Charming is a Victorian Era Harry Potter roleplay set primarily in the village of Hogsmeade, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the non-canon village of Irvingly. Characters of all classes, both magical and muggle — and even non-human! — are welcome.
With a member driven story line, monthly games and events, and a friendly and drama-free community focused on quality over quantity, the only thing you can be sure of is fun!
"Are you always this forward?" He asked teasingly since it would be a very short thread if he just ignored her entirely. — Tobin Cartwright in Take A Peek
Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
1790 — Herschel is born the first son to Mr. and Mrs. Dawlish.
1792 — At nearly two years of age, he displays his first sign of magic when he makes a bowl of food fly across the room, finding it to be displeasing to him.
1796 — Six year old Herschel enjoys following his older sisters around and is privately rather pleased when his mother produces a stillborn child, disliking the prospect of change.
1798 — His mother gives birth to another son, this one outlives her. Herschel is saddened by the loss of his mother, she was warmer than some mothers of her standing and as the only son, he was her favorite and treated as such.
Hogwarts Years
1802 — A letter from Hogwarts finds it's way to Herschel who already saw his three sisters go off to the magic school. He is very pleased and has matured into a rather level headed boy with clear aspirations of having great influence in the Ministry. He is later sorted into Slytherin on account of his ambition and lack of scruples in getting where he wants to be.
1806 — Herschel is made Prefect.
1808 — Much to his delight, he becomes Head Boy.
After Hogwarts
1810 — No longer a student and not particularly interested in catching himself a wife and settling down so soon (though being an heir means he can if he so pleases) he decides to take a few years to travel, as is rather fashionable.
1811 — Herschel's father dies after drinking too much and falling down a flight of stairs. He does not return home for the funeral.
1813 — Herschel returns to London and takes up residence in one of the family's home and he seeks a job at the Ministry of Magic. He begins working as a translator for the Department of International Magical Co-Operation, his time overseas coming in use.
1815 — After a little canoodling with a young Welcome Witch, he watches nonchalantly from the sidelines as the young woman loses her job after a tip off from another employee that they had glimpsed her in the midst of scandalous activity with man they couldn't identify.
Wizengamot Years
1820 — Bored of working as a translator, Herschel turn his attention to trying to schmooze his way into the Wizengamot.
1825 — Herschel becomes a member of the Wizengamot, a position he's pleased with. He sets his sights on the position of Chief Warlock.
1829 — Nearly forty years of age, he supposes it's time to settle down and marry though he prefers frequenting brothels and pursuing girls he has no intention of marrying, just for his own amusement. However, he need an heir and he's well aware of it. He has, however, gained a slight reputation for his womanizing ways with his co-workers at the Ministry.
1838 — After nearly ten years of attending Coming Out Balls, he finally finds a young lady he believes the sort he wants to marry. Within months of courting, the pair are married.
1839 — Emmeline is born. Herschel is disappointed he doesn't have a son and not overly interested in the squalling infant.
1841 — Now able to walk and talk, he finally notices his young daughter and very quickly begins showering her in gifts and fatherly affection.
1842 — Howard is born, much to Herschel's pleasure he finally has a son.
1845 — Joseph is born.
1850 — Gemima and Patience both die in the childbirth process. Herschel is saddened though not immensely as he never actually loved his wife. He is more sad to see Emmeline go off to Hogwarts.
1853 — After trying to grope a woman's rear end (not so easy with the voluminous skirts in fashion) he is hexed and left with boils on his face. This irritates him immensely. Howard goes to Hogwarts.
1856 — Toying idly with the idea of remarrying, he takes the virtue of a girl he considers to be very eligible but then changes his mind because she was a little too easy to seduce. Joseph goes to Hogwarts.
1857 — Herschel is promoted to Wizengamot Interrogator.
1858 — Emmeline graduates and has her Hogwarts Coming Out Ball. Herschel uses the opportunity to eye up innocent and unsuspecting fresh debutantes.
1859 — Very reluctantly, Herschel gives his permission for Emmeline to marry the man currently courting her.
1861 — Howard leaves Hogwarts.
1863 — Emmeline dies in childbirth. Herschel is genuinely upset by the loss.
1864 — Joseph leaves Hogwarts.
1866 — Despite still mourning the loss of his only daughter, he is still enough himself to try and coerce a woman into a little you know what but her pet dog takes offense more firmly than she does and mauls his leg. The healers at St. Mungo's fix it very well but in the damp months he suffers from a slight limp. The cane he starts carrying is more for his own amusement than any practical use, his leg injury only gave him the idea of it.
1870 — A rather public scandal this time - Herschel is caught literally in the act with another man's wife. The woman takes the brunt of the shame for it but for a long while Herschel is not as popular with upper class society, especially among those with particularly young and pretty wives and daughters.
1877 — The scandal of seven years ago is mostly forgotten by polite society and he is back in the good graces of his social equals. The muggles rebelling against their kind also helps this.
1879 — While he keeps both his country estate and his London townhouse, Herschel decides to invest in a Hogsmeade dwelling too.
1882 — While he keeps both his country estate and his London townhouse, Herschel decides to invest in a Hogsmeade dwelling too.
1884 — His Hogsmeade home burns down but he escapes and is not terribly fazed by the loss - he has two other homes. He also escaped the laughing plague.
1885 — Orestes Lestrange dies and Herschel finds himself finally elevated to the position of Chief Warlock.
Presently
Feeling at the top of his game due to his rise through the Wizengamot's ranks, he spends his time feeling important, judging people, and pursuing women far too young for himself. He is vaguely pondering the idea of marriage.
