Charming is a Victorian Era Harry Potter roleplay set primarily in the village of Hogsmeade, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the non-canon village of Irvingly. Characters of all classes, both magical and muggle — and even non-human! — are welcome.
With a member driven story line, monthly games and events, and a friendly and drama-free community focused on quality over quantity, the only thing you can be sure of is fun!
"Are you always this forward?" He asked teasingly since it would be a very short thread if he just ignored her entirely. — Tobin Cartwright in Take A Peek
Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
1837 — Maureen is born, the nickname of 'Moira' follows soon after and it sticks.
1839 — Leandra is born.
1840 — Moira's first sign of magic comes when she sets her dress on fire in an act of defiance against being dressed. Her older sister, Georgiana, dies at only seven years old.
1841 — Her 19 year old brother, Faustus, dies only a year later.
1847 — Gideon, the brother Moira idolizes, marries a Miss Harriet Potter. Moira has already decided that she hates the older girl and Harriet is not good enough for her brother. She makes no secret of her displeasure.
Hogwarts Years
1848 — Moira's Hogwarts letter arrives and once at the school she is very happily sorted into Slytherin.
1850 — A Hufflepuff girl in her year tries to befriend her. Moira is disinterested initially but the cheerful creature manages to worm her way into friendship.
1851 — The Hufflepuff girl, Vertiline, has become Moira's best friend but she is reluctant to admit that to anyone.
1854 — Her OWL results come in and are decent enough. She's clever but doesn't always put the hard work in.
1855 ‐ Moira gradually distances herself from Vertiline over the course of their seventh year. She never admits to herself why she did it, but in hindsight realizes it was due to jealousy.
After Hogwarts
1856 — Moira finishes her exams but falls ill with a severe case of scrofungulus and misses the Coming Out Ball. After a couple months, she is recovered from her illness but in that time a vicious rumor circulated that she did not have a Coming Out Ball and was withdrawn from society for so long because she was with child. The rumor eventually dies, especially with the lack of proof, but the damage is done. Bitter and feeling directionless, Moira indulges her darker leanings and involves herself in dark magic.
1865 — Her twenty-seventh birthday arrives and she is officially a spinster. She manages to make it to the ripe old age without a single proposal of marriage. Her failure to wed had a lot to do with her withdrawal from society and her general unwillingness.
1868 — Her favorite older brother, Gideon, dies three days before her 31st birthday. The nature of his death and her own grief at his passing encourages her deeper into her endeavors in the dark arts. She longs for a way to revive her beloved brother, though
1878 — Moira's father dies and Primus turfs her out of the family home. Equipped with only a modest stipend from her father's will, she is left to rely on the kindness of her brother's widow, Harriet. Begrudgingly, for she has no other option, she moves in with Harriet and her obnoxious brood. She continues to keep to herself but starts occasionally venturing out into society if only to seem less like the recluse she is.
1882 — Moira is drafted to go on the Hogsmeade Trail and she isn't pleased about it. Moira is shot in the shoulder by one of the muggles that kidnaps her group. They are held hostage for a couple weeks during which Moira's dislike of muggles somehow finds room to grow. A month or so after regaining her freedom, she receives a letter from her old school friend, Vertiline. Reluctantly, she agrees to meet with the woman she hasn't seen in over twenty years. More reluctantly still, Moira agrees to resume their friendship. Having won a plot of land in Irvingly and some money, Moira has a house built there so as to escape dependency on Harriet whom she still doesn't like. She gets a job for the first time in her life and it's at the newly built Ivana Memorial Asylum as a matron.
1883 — The reality that she has feelings for her former school friend is one that Moira is still fighting violently, even after sharing a kiss with her. Feeling restless, she decides to quit the asylum and takes up a job at Hogwarts as the professor of Etiquette. Her strange relationship with Vertiline continues and Moira very gradually grows more comfortable with her feelings. Near the end of the year, they consummate the relationship.
1884 — The Laughing Plague strikes and Moira falls ill. Almost fully recovered, a very upset Vertiline pays her a visit and informs her that her husband has found out about their affair. Moira is given the option of never seeing Verty again or running away with her to America as her husband intends to claim she died rather than divorce her. Moira is dissatisfied with both options and comes up with her own solution. A few days later, a fire strikes Hogsmeade and Moira seizes the opportunity to murder Verty's husband and then light her house on fire to cover up her deed. Moira intended to tell her a few days later but found the other witch bereft rather than jubilant and a fight ensues that results in neither speaking for months. In the meantime, Moira manages to accidentally transfigure herself into a turkey vulture for two weeks. While she was successfully turned back to normal in the end, she was left with an abnormal appreciation for raw meat over cooked, and a weak gag reflex.
1885 — Moira quits her job at Hogwarts.
1886 — Her house in Irvingly collapses due to an out of control bundimun infestation, courtesy of her slacker of a house elf who conveniently gets impaled by a piece of wood.
Presently
Moira is back to living with Harriet and not very pleased about it.
