    Who wore it best?
Mrs. Lavinia Penrose and Mrs. Marjolaine St.John’s New Year’s Celebratory Ice Ball took place yesterday and, according to our sources, was a smashing success. For all that all of the guests had to wear ice skating ensembles, grace and beauty was not missing from the outfits spotted yesterday. The two hostesses in particular were extremely well-dressed, but who actually had the edge?

Mrs. Lavinia Penrose chose to wear an elegant ice skating ensemble of a bottle green hue that extremely complimented her colouring. It was trimmed with black fur, which added to the outfit’s chic and elegance. Despite it’s rather simple style, it didn’t fail to impress.

Mrs. Marjolaine St.John went for a lighter style, which truly showed that she’s the youngest of the two hostesses. Her ensemble was baby blue and trimmed with pure white fur. For all that it complimented her colouring, making her look quite angelic, even, we cannot help but think that it made her look younger than her actual age.

Our verdict? While both hostesses were well-dressed, Mrs. Lavinia Penrose had the edge. Her excellent taste and elegance will be sure to inspire many young ladies when picking their ice skating ensembles for the rest of the winter season.

Mr. Beaumont currently resides in Wales after his home in Hogsmeade was destroyed by this summer's fire. The Eligible Mr. Mathias Beaumont IV
Mr. Mathias Beaumont IV is a twenty-eight year old upper class pureblood. He was born the first child and only son of the late Mr. Mathias Beaumont III and his wife, Mrs. Cassandra Beaumont, née Babineaux. He is also the elder brother of Lady Dorothee Couture and Mrs. Francoise Higginbotham-Blankenship, as well as Misses Oceane and Anais Beaumont. Although he was born in France, Mr. Beaumont and his family moved to England when he was still an infant, and he later attended Hogwarts as a Ravenclaw. Currently, Mr. Beaumont is the owner of Gladrags Wizardwear in Hogsmeade, and he is also the sponsor of the Holyhead Harpies!

    Mr. Mathias Beaumont IV

Last year, Mr. Beaumont suffered the loss of his father, though this turned out to quite fortuitous, as the younger Mr. Mathias Beaumont was his father's only son and heir, making him quite the catch for whatever young lady can manage to catch this gentleman's eye! Although Gladrags Wizardwear isn't quite the most fashionable clothier in town, it would be remiss of us to deny his appeal--especially when so many good, eligible men are being lost to very questionable matches, it is good to know that all hope isn't yet lost!

Mr. Beaumont has recently been spotted in the company of several young ladies. He was previously linked to Miss Zephyra Zane, but things seem to have cooled there as he's been spotted with both Miss February Lynch and, most recently at last month's Yule Ball, Miss November Crouch. With how frequently Mr. Beaumont has been seen in the company such ladies recently, is it too far to wonder if he might be actively searching for a wife? We will certainly be keeping an eye on how this develops!

Fashion, as always, seems to be thoroughly dividing opinion! Letters from our readers!
Following last week’s article on the splitting fashion trends for this year, we at Witch Weekly have been simply inundated with letters from our dear readers, who seem to be torn in their opinions. We have selected two of such letters to allow our audience to draw their own conclusions over the matter.

The growing divide between high fashion and aesthetic dress has been noted by muggles too- William Powell Frith produced this satiric painting on the subject.

Dear Witch Weekly, I am appalled that you would even consider aesthetic dress worthy of a mention! The only people I can imagine wearing it are artist’s models, those stuck in another era or those to frumpy to keep up with modern fashions! I would rather dance down the high street in my chemise than be seen wearing such unflattering clothes, and in such unrefined colours! And to go out without a corset too! Yours in disgust, Mrs X.

Dear Editor, Your article on aesthetic dress was so very enlightening. I have personally always found it hard to understand why such unnatural shapes and gaudy colours are promoted by society, and find myself hoping that this aesthetic dress catches on, if only for the sake of comfort. Surely no one would willingly choose to be uncomfortable? Yours, Miss Grateful.
