Charming is a Victorian Era Harry Potter roleplay set primarily in the village of Hogsmeade, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the non-canon village of Irvingly. Characters of all classes, both magical and muggle — and even non-human! — are welcome.

With a member driven story line, monthly games and events, and a friendly and drama-free community focused on quality over quantity, the only thing you can be sure of is fun!

    AC NEWS:
The Activity Check list has been compiled, and deactivations will be underway shortly! If you would like an account reactivated, you can do so by posting in maintenance starting on May 4th at 6:00am EST. The exception to this is players with no active accounts. If all of your accounts are inactive, you may immediately post to reactivate one.

As always, this only applies to accounts deactivated in the Activity Check. If yours was deactivated earlier for another reason, you are welcome to reactivate your character whenever you like!

    UPCOMING EVENTS:
Keep an eye out for this month's events - we have the Hogwarts Quiddich Cup finals (a played match omgyay!) and the Coming Out Ball for the debs! (Also a 7th year prank!~)

Don't forget to add any of your own events to the calendar!

    Some Hogwarts updates for you!

First of all, I’ve gone ahead and rolled the May 7th quidditch match ahead of time—Ravenclaw has defeated Hufflepuff with a score of 370 to 40—ouch! Not the finest end to the school quidditch careers of captain @'Oliver Trask', beater @'Percival Plum', and keeper @'John Humphrey-Mavis'!

For Hufflepuff, goals were scored by @'Pandora Winterdowne' (2), @'Oliver Trask' (1), and @'Delight Urquart' (1). Ravenclaw saw twelve goals from @'Cecily Gallivan' and nine from team captain @'Theodore Gallivan'. @'Amos Harkiss' caught the snitch, earning the team an extra 150 points!

This puts Ravenclaw in first place in the inter-house quidditch league. They will face off against Slytherin in a played quidditch match on May 21st IC—it will kick off this week OOC! The winner of this match will take home the Quidditch Cup—and the stamp that goes with it! Gryffindor ranked third this year, with Hufflepuff taking the rear.

In other news, the house point totals have been updated! There will not be random rolls for May—from here on out, your fates are entirely in your hands! The house cup will be awarded on May 31st; all house point additions and deductions are due by noon EST on that day. Good luck!

Soph, one of our darling moderators of several years, has decided to step down from staff in order to spend the little free time she has enjoying Charming, rather than working on it. The staff team will miss her greatly and we wish her the best of luck! Thank you for all of your hard work, dear! <333

That being said, we now have a moderator position that has opened up. If you're interested in applying, please send me a PM on Barnabas Skeeter's account with the following information: your OOC name, age, how long you've been a member, which account you'd like to be your staff account if selected and most importantly - why you think you'd be an asset to the staff team.

    Staff Behavior:
Staff members are expected to remain professional at all times - whether it's on Charming or through PMs, AIM and other messengers. Professional is defined as keeping out of drama, whether it be arguing or otherwise, being non critical or judgmental of others, being helpful, and overall welcoming and kind. Comments or remarks regarding how staff is above members/more important/better than/etc. is not true, nor is it considered professional in any way. Members are the most important part of the board - they're what keeps it alive and they're integral to our growth. Staff related topics should not be discussed with non-staff members, nor should the OOC drama/issues of other members be discussed with non-involved members. Friendliness and respect is a must.

Staff members are expected to uphold the activity requirement - one post a month. Absences are allowed, but if removals of the same characters happen repeatedly, it may be suggested that you remove some characters from your load. If you neglect your duties and your IC posting, you may be asked to step down from staff so that you can better focus on real life and having fun being a regular member of the board.

Moderator duties would be the following:
    • Process lists and claims requests. HTML and CSS understanding required
    • Active in the cbox and OOC areas of the site.
    • Open to threading with everyone - new and old members alike.
    • Assist in activity checks.
    • Help run events as needed. Will need to moderate duels and potion tournaments and may need to stand in for quidditch refereeing for Bee when necessary.
    • Comfortable with assisting guests and new members in joining by answering questions, encouraging character development and posting.

A lot of work goes into being a staff member on such a large site, but there are some benefits!
    • You get to be involved in top secret discussions in the staff forum and in our skype group chat regarding upcoming events, plots, etc.
    • You can add the staff member stamp to your stamp collection.
    • You will have direct involvement in the shaping of new plots and events.
    • You get to hang out with some pretty awesome people!~

Just a note - the majority of our staff chats happen via skype group chat, so please be aware that in order to keep up with things, you'll need to have it as well. Most of us (if not all of us) have the app installed on our phones.

We will be accepting applications until May 10th, at which point the staff will convene and decide who would be the best fit.

    Happy posting!

I decided to do some tiny upgrades to the board and now things are ugly. >.>; Posting should work just fine! If you absolutely can't stand it, I recommend switching to the Pennyworth 1.8.7 skin. That'll restore things back to normal as I temporarily fiddle with the others!

Updates have been made. Tweaking needs to be done. Please wait to report any errors until I say otherwise. :)

EDIT: The account switcher can now be found in a drop down in the top bar next to where you'd find your PMs and alerts. This is also the green light to post any issues that you have in maintenance. Please tag Barney's account in your posts!

    Known issues:
    • The "like" button has a magnifying glass instead of a thumbs up icon.
    • URL issues - charmingrp.com will take you to a "Thank you for installing myBB page". Please use charmingrp.com/index.php to access the forum.

In other news, Beanie's passed the leadership of the Buddy System baton on to Mr. Nolan, who I am sure will do a wonderful job! Go show her how much you like Nolan better than her and volunteer to be a buddy. I'm kidding - but really, go volunteer. No, really. Do it. Now.

    FUN WITH MISCELLANEOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS.

Have you ever had something that should be public knowledge, but doesn't necessarily warrant a full article? NEWS ROUNDUP is here to help!

That’s right, there’s now an organizational thread as part of The Daily Prophet to see to it that your news, however inconsequential, is heard!  Head on over, check it out, and start contributing!

And secondly, I’ve had a few people ask me about reserving summer internships and/or jobs for students finishing at Hogwarts this year. I’ve already reached out to everyone eligible for occupation list Summer Interns to get their feedback, and have a timeline and some information for the rest of you!
May 27th: Summer internships announced and available for reservation.
May 28th: Graduating students will be able to reserve employment excluding Ministry jobs requiring NEWTs
June 1st: User title changes for summer interns will be available.
June 2nd: Usergroup changes for graduating students will be available.
July 27th: NEWT-needing Ministry slots available for reservation.
July 30th: NEWT grades are released.
August 1st: You’ll be able to switch characters into Ministry jobs that need NEWTs.

Kayte, why are we waiting so long for new certain Ministry roles?
These jobs require NEWTS—no exceptions. NEWTs are not released until mid-summer, and so it is understandable that employees would not be hired on until after they’re released, though interviews and the like can absolutely be conducted, with offers of employment pending acceptable grades!

Uh, so does working as a healer, though.
Also true! However the early stages of a healing internship are basic muggle first aid and mediwizard-level magic, meaning that you can get in based on your OWL grades and start training in your department of choice only to fail Herbology (or some other necessary NEWT) and have to bear the shame of dropping down to mediwizard instead >D

    Someone do this. Please.

Annnnd lastly, we have one Monthly Grouper this month, set in the Hogwarts Hospital Wing, and another in Diagon Alley!

And that’s a wrap on SWP5—Pennyworth is now open for business! @'Barnabas Skeeter' will let us know when the map has been updated, but for now, the linked article will show you the boundaries of this new district!

    But who can live there?
    • There is a blanket reputational requirement of 3 or higher for all residents. Those of poorer reputations will be edged out by vigilantes in the community who do not wish to associate with that sort!
    • The rent of a single room in a boarding house would be affordable to those of level six or better.
    • The rent of a modest family home (three bedrooms or fewer) will be affordable to households making 8g weekly or more. This could be two earners in level five, or one in level four and one in level six.
    • The rent of a larger family home (four to five bedrooms) would be affordable to a family with one earner in pay level four and one in level five.
    • The ownership of any Pennyworth properties would be affordable to those with two earners in pay level four.
There will be no formal process to get you into your new home like there was for Irvingly, but please bear the above in mind when deciding which of your characters will live there!

The new forum for this neighborhood is live, and the stamp is up for collection with gentler requirements than previously announced!

Do you play a character aged 15-21? Then pay attention—some of this may apply to you!

Students who complete their fifth or sixth year this month are officially eligible for Ministry summer internships! Check out the list, see what your character is interested in, make sure they meet the (sometimes prejudiced) requirements, and reserve if you’re interested!

Students who complete their sixth year this month are also eligible for hospital summer internships. Keep in mind that until June, only residents of Hogsmeade and Irvingly can reserve slots at Hogsmeade Hospital, and only residents of London and “elsewhere” can reserve slots at St. Mungo’s. After the June AC, any spaces still available will be open to anyone.

All summer internships are first come, first served. Please remember that to use magic on the job, your character must be at least seventeen years old.

If you were eligible to request summer interns and didn’t, or if you did but I missed you when I did the update, please let me know by Sunday evening when I do the last update of the list! You can request updated internship titles in Maintenance as of June 1st. All summer interns are pay level six.

Current Hospital Interns and Aurors in Training should be aware that as of June 1st, they’ll either get a promotion or be let go. Time to make some decisions there, friends ;) Again, post in Maintenance to have your occupation updated!
    @'Jacob Lennox' @'Galatea Merrythought' @'Cassander Goyle' @'Joseph Simpson' @'George Carmichael' @'Ambrosia Shinnick'

Graduating students can also now reserve their occupations of choice—excluding the Department of Mysteries, the Auror Training Program, and any other Ministry job that requires NEWTs. All graduating students should post in maintenance on or after June 2nd to switch into their scary new grown-up usergroups!

More info on careers for the youths.

Last but certainly not least, the Activity Check is Wednesday!

CHECK OUT TODAY'S ARTICLE REGARDING SWP #6!

That's right! Britain will be hosting this year's World's Wizarding Fair. What can I expect from a World's Wizarding Fair, you ask?
    • Science! With a great number of wealthy sponsors attending the event - as well as a reward for the 'Best Invention' - there's a lot of money at stake for national and international inventors.
    • That's right - international characters will be available! We'll start accepting them on June 13th, but they won't be in the country until the 15th. This is a great opportunity to explore with characters who wouldn't normally come to the country - maybe you're like Beanie and want an Australian, maybe you want to play an attendee of the awesome Mahoutokoro, maybe you want a Hippogriff breeder from Portugal. THERE'S A LOT OF OPTIONS, IS WHAT I'M SAYING.
    • Later in the summer, we'll be taking nominees and voting on the winner of the 1886 QWC for our pending exhibition match.
    • Fireworks! Cotton candy! A deeply romantic magical ferris wheel! The fair is going to be great.
    • Mystery?! Maybe!

We're super excited to unveil this! Please contact any member of the staff team with any specific questions you have, and stay posted!

Congratulations to Ravenclaw, for winning the House Cup with a staggering 900 points! Slytherin was in second at 710, while Hufflepuff took third with 550. Gryffindor embarrassed itself with only 490 xD

Those of you who are eligible for the House Cup stamp have already received a PM to the relevant account(s)! There is no need to post in the Stamp Station to claim it.

Today marks the last day of the term for students in years 1-6; those in year 7 will have left yesterday. Say goodbye to your school friends, pack up your things, and head home for the summer—usergroup changes, prefect applications, and faculty vacancies will all be coming soon!

And lastly, a reminder that the Activity Check is tomorrow.

We wanted to ask for your suggestions on what SWP6 should feature as fair exhibits! We already have a ferris wheel (Beanie's fixation) planned and a couple of other events up our sleeves, but a World's Fair is inherently... worldly... and could feature almost anything you come up with!

For any ~inspiration~ I recommend checking out wikipedia articles on past world's fairs.

Please do us a favor and fill out the survey!
