    Interview with Barnabas Skeeter
    OCTOBER 25TH 1887

F ollowing his announcement of his intention to run for Minister for Magic, The Daily Prophet sat down with Mr. Skeeter to discuss his intention for entering the race, as well as his campaign platform and message to voters.

"What inspired you to run for Minister for Magic?"

"This is actually my second time running - the last election that was held I rescinded in order to support my father's campaign. I have always thought that the Minister should be a man who can admit when he is wrong, change when he needs to and always have the magical community's best interest at heart. He should also be fairly active within the community, rather than just sit at his desk all day. I fully believe myself to possess these qualities and more - earnestness, honesty and above all - the intolerance for old-fashioned and prejudiced laws."

"What experience have you had that have made you feel qualified for such an important position?"

"I have been featured in your paper a number of times, so I'll briefly mention the articles and if you'd like, you can expand. First, my background for having worked in the Ministry's Improper Use of Magic Office has given me a great deal of experience in dealing with all kinds of witches, wizards, muggles and beings. I have withstood many injuries in the name of my profession - I was one of the main investigators for the Halloween curse of 1883 - and I had to deal with many a dangerous situation.

My own brother bayoneted me! I have also had to have fingers reattached, been hexed, cursed and as I'm sure you remember - had the lower portion of my leg eaten by a troll in the troll attack of 1885. I hadn't even been on the clock at the time. I heard the commotion from my house and had immediately gone to help! I could go on about the month I spent in America helping solve a cold case, but I'm sure you know all about that. I have been leading my department for several years, have been an outstanding citizen and was even chosen as prefect for Slytherin house in my Hogwarts days."

"Where do you stand on half-breed rights and the werewolf situation"

"I believe half-breeds should have the same rights as you or I! In fact, it is absolutely deplorable that this is even an issue in this day and age! I have the firm belief that if a person - because they are still people regardless of their genetic makeup - can wield a wand, they ought to be allowed the same rights as the rest of us. Werewolves obviously have a bit of danger to them, but I know there is a way for them to remain members of society without endangering their friends, family and neighbors. Whether it be specially trained escorts to the Forbidden Forest for full moons or perhaps having a humane containment center, there is a way to deal with such issues appropriately."

"How have you changed since the Wizengamot ruling on women's dueling?"

"I was hoping that you'd ask me that! My political views have changed drastically since the ruling. I am glad for having lost that ruling, in fact. It takes a humble an to admit that he was wrong, especially in such a public forum. I have certainly seen the error of my ways. There are many a witch that I have had the pleasure of knowing personally that I am certain would best me in any type of magical competition - whether it be a duel or otherwise. I am far more for equality and against prejudice than I ever was before, and I have all of the women who opposed me to thank for that enlightenment."

"What message would you like to pass to our readers — and more specifically, the voters?"

"It's simple - we need to scourge out the prejudice and unfairness in our society. I can do that. A vote for Barnabas Skeeter is a vote for equality."
