As I am sure most of you are aware, the sitewide plot for Irvingly has come to its conclusion. As per this article the leaders of Hogsmeade and Irvingly have come to an agreement. A timeline for you all to follow as well as restrictions and other information regarding Irvingly are below:
Guidelines for Community Cooperation
- Irvingly gets a casino to generate revenue from wizards. Hogsmeade will build them all a lovely little town, provide resources for them, etc. In return, Hogsmeade residents can move there. They can choose to travel through the woods and mountains, or they can apparate through the designated apparation closet set up in the casino, or by floo in the designated fireplace in the casino.
- No magic will be allowed on the streets of Irvingly, but is allowed in homes.
- Everyone who moves to Irvingly must have an IC thread of them doing so (read-onlys are acceptable) and only those who were promised land on the trail can move (themselves, their families or possibly their muggle family members there instead.) They have enough room for one decent sized home but are responsible for building it themselves. They can also sell their land to someone else instead, but that must be recorded through a thread or a letter and has to be sold to an active character on the board.
- There will be a new Improper Use of Magic Office position for Irvingly. It must be a muggleborn and they have to live in Irvingly as of 09/03. They are required to be at least 25 and middle class. Darcy Potter is accepting applications through OWL, though Kayte will be choosing quickly so as not to hold up the plotline. This character will be expected to thread really often - I wouldn't recommend the position for slow posters or those who don't like to have very many threads going on for one character at a time.
There will have been a letter of opportunity for employment in the Prophet, so assume that your character saw it there and is writing Darcy of their interest. Kayte isn't required to respond to these owls, so get all of the information in their first letter as you can. All letters should be posted in the letters forum and titled appropriately so that they're easy to find. I haven't asked Kayte yet, but you might want to send her a PM on Odira Browne's account letting her know of your posting.
Timeline
09/03: Muggles will begin to be accepted as playable characters from the Irvingly canons list. The plot, timeline, Victorian wizarding and FAQ have all been updated to reflect this change. A note in the application templates instructs on how to fill out a muggle application. We'll begin allowing wizards who were promised land to move to Irvingly at this time as well, but they must do so IC in order to have their title updated. They are also responsible for building their own homes, selling their own land, etc. They are able to post a read only thread if they want or perhaps bring a family member along with them to thread with, but they MUST have a thread in Irvingly that announces their moving locations. Until the casino is built, public apparation and floo powdering as well as any public magic on the streets is not allowed - so they may be stuck there living like muggles until it is built.
09/13: The casino and muggle house construction will have been finished.
09/15: The casino is opened. A designated private apparation closet and floo network fire place are set up so wizards can travel to and from Irvingly easily. Those who cannot use either of these to travel are stuck in one town or another or must travel through the forest and mountains.
10/01: Irvingly is open for non trail members to move to. They will also be required to contribute something useful to Irvingly in order to reside there, either by owning a shop there, working at the casino, etc. It has to be acceptable for the social class of the people to move there, so obviously we won't have upper classers going there to work as a waitress at the casino and that sort of thing. They can't just move there, just for the novelty of it. Muggles can also move here, though they are required to be somehow involved with a witch or wizard that lives in Hogsmeade - most likely family members.
Muggle Characters
They can only ever be in Irvingly. They cannot see Hogsmeade or Hogwarts and therefore, can't find it or be brought to it. The Irvingly canons are generally going to be suspicious of everyone and their motives, whether it be other non-original muggles or wizards. The story is that the Ingrahm's family's father/husband died in a textile factory accident. All of the men that were fifteen and older worked in the factory with Mr. Ingrahm. The Ingrahm widow and children were treated poorly and factory conditions were not improved despite the obvious need for better safety regulations. There was a big falling out because the town didn't want to upset the factory owners and risk the factory being shut down instead - which was the village's sole means of livelihood. The six families were blackmailed until they were finally shunned out of their village for lack of support of their cause. They left together and wandered until they were far enough away where they felt safe - Irvingly was created during the beginning of April in 1882, though they were on the road for nearly four months before that.
