Pandora Winterdowne v. Yarrow Macnair - Icarus Prince - 12-28-2013

Icarus droned out the rules for what had to be the billionth time. Surely everyone knew them upside down and inside out by now?

"Miss Winterdowne may begin the duel."

  • The Hufflepuff was surprised to have made it so far in the tournament, and was quite happy to keep her victorious momentum going. She curtsied to Mr. Macnair—who she did not like very much, so it was a very shallow curtsey—thinking very hard on what she would perform. Finally, Pandora settled on transfiguring a hatpin into a hat.

Yarrow would much rather duel properly, but he supposed that he could gather strength for more challenging competitors later in the tournament. He paid little attention to what Miss Winterdowne did and once she had finished with her display, he attempted to turn the dummy into ice.

Of the two spells, Miss Pandora had the upper hand. Her hat pin was flawlessly executed whereas Mr. Macnair's attempt to freeze the dummy was patchy in places.

"Miss Winterdowne wins the first round, Mr. Macnair to begin the next!"

Yarrow was not pleased to have lost and he did not even really notice what Winterdowne had done. He made a passive-aggressive mental note to make sure she dropped the quaffle at least once on the Quidditch pitch and then attempted to disarm the dummy from its ‘wand’ with Expelliarmus.

  • Well done me! the Hufflepuff thought gleefully. Though her spell had been simple, it had done the trick. Pandora hoped her second attempt would be equally successful as she went about charming her hair to appear as if made of gold.

The next round was better for Mr. Macnair, Icarus wasn't sure if Miss Winterdowne had meant to turn her hair a sort of muddy yellow color but he was quite certain that Mr. Macnair had a firm grasp of the disarming charm.

"Mr. Macnair wins this round. Miss Pandora will start the deciding round."

  • The second round had not gone as well as Dora might have hoped, but she had not lost yet! Determined to be victorious, the Hufflepuff cast a charm that, if successful, would make the ‘snow’ apparent on the Great Hall’s ceiling cascade in real snowflakes to the floor.

Clearly, defensive magic was the way to go, even if his choices were limited considering that he was supposed to cast on a dummy. Finally, we went for the Impedimenta jinx.

RE: Pandora Winterdowne v. Yarrow Macnair - Icarus Prince - 01-06-2014

It was lucky indeed for Macnair that his impediment jinx actually repelled the dummy backward rather than simply freezing it still or else it would have been very difficult to tell if he had actually cast it successfully - after all the dummy wasn't moving. As for Miss Winterdowne's snow, it was pretty but a strong impediment jinx just managed to sway Icarus' favor.

"Mr. Macnair wins!"
