Hold Your Head Up High - Adamina Flamel - 07-07-2014

Adamina had never possessed an avid interest in politics before, and perhaps she never would, but even she had to admit that she was relieved that Mr. Urquart had been selected as Minister of Magic rather than the other candidates who had also applied, specifically Mr. Pendergast and Mr. Lestrange. It was not that she had anything against the two families -- in fact, some members of those families, like her good friend William Pendergast, were decent people who were not to be feared -- but being that they were among the most influential wizarding families, she believed that them being given extra power would not bode well for the magical community. Power, she knew, was a fickle thing, able to be tampered with and passed on, and to see the Ministry in the hands of either the Pendergasts or the Lestranges did not quite agree with her.

Thankfully, however, neither family was currently head of the magical community, and Ada was able to look forward to attending the Electoral Ball with excitement. Being a sociable person by nature, Ada always rather enjoyed social events such as Balls, though she enjoyed them more for the dancing and socialization than the real reason most debutantes attended them for, which was to scour the male population for a husband. However, finding herself a suitor to be pursued by was the furthest thing from her mind -- a fact she was sure would shock half of her acquaintances -- and Ada now found herself clad in a lovely gown of light-blue with red flowers in her hair to match the ones embroidered on her dress, standing on the sidelines in a group consisting of other debutantes, fanning herself lightly as she took in the scenery of the Electoral Ball, occasionally contributing to the conversation but was otherwise preoccupied with her own thoughts.

It seemed that the evening would prove to be a slow one, which both relieved and disappointed her. She was relieved because she had not been feeling quite well of late, but did not desire to miss the opportunity of attending a Ball. But she was also disappointed, for she had been hoping to fill up her dancing card with an adequate number of dances, but it was already halfway through the evening, and she has only danced but three times -- the first dance with her father, the second with Mr. Silas Scrivenshaft (who seemed to Ada to be in an odd humor what with his unexpected bouts of laughter, and at the oddest times too!), and the third with Mr. Wallingford, whose younger sister would not rest until the pair danced together. Overall, the night was proving to be a disappointment, but Ada was determined to remain optimistic, for she knew that the night was still young and anything could happen.

Fortunately, it seemed that Ada's optimism would afford her well in the end, for a familiar gentleman striding towards her caught her eye, and a smile graced her lips as she recognized him. "Mr. Hornebolt," she said civilly once he was near, stepping away from the group of ladies to curtsey to him in greeting. "How lovely to see you here!"

RE: Hold Your Head Up High - Micajah Hornebolt - 07-07-2014

Micajah Reuben Hornebolt

Being a part of one of the committees of the Ministry, Micajah had felt pressured to attend the event, whether he really wanted to or not. It had been quite pathetic, him standing there by himself while he watched many of his colleagues dance with their wives and possible future wives. Micajah had never considered that he might find his future Mrs. Hornebolt at one of these events, but he had been watching certain young ladies as they danced with some of the other men.

It was then that his thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a familiar voice, one that he was sure he hadn't heard in quite a while. He turned his head to look at the woman, a small grin gracing his lips as he saw her face. "Oh, hello Miss Flamel," he said, giving her a small bow. His voice was soft and hesitant, as he often grew weary of being approached by women during these balls. He wasn't as graceful on his feet as some of the other men in the room, and the last thing he wanted to do was make a fool of himself. "How are you this evening?" he asked politely.

“Quite lovely, sir,” she answered politely with a pleasant smile. She had become acquainted with Mr. Hornebolt during one of the campaign events that spring, and while he did not seem like the sort to enjoy such gatherings as she did, he was a civil man and pleasant to talk to, and she quite enjoyed his company. It also did not hurt that she found him to be handsome in appearance, as well, though Ada, having been raised to look beneath a person’s exterior and into their personality, did not often acknowledge this, instead focusing on the overall person that was Micajah Hornebolt.

“Though, I must confess,” she began after a moment, her blue eyes swiveling towards the dance floor, “I rather expected more out of the evening.” Dancing, she believed, was the best form of entertainment -- not only did it provide the human body with the exercise it so needed, but the activity also gave the chance for people to better get to know each other, especially in a society that had high expectations and strict rules for maintaining propriety.

With a little inward sigh, Ada removed her gaze from the gracefully twirling figures to Mr. Hornebolt’s handsome face, the pleasant smiling having never left her face. “I trust that your own evening has also been satisfactory, sir?”
