Seneca Lestrange v. Lorna Van Patten - Elliot Carmichael - 11-12-2014

Miss Van Patten again! This time she was dueling against a Lestrange, who was a first year and therefor, Elliot thought, at a bit of a disadvantage.

"Miss Lestrange to start," he announced after reading the rules.

She could have easily been paired with Cousin Archelaus or Miss McGonagall, but she had been paired with a second year instead. It was slightly unfair, but Seneca decided to think of it as proof of her great skill. They wouldn’t pair someone hopeless with a greater opponent unless they completely had to!

For her first display, she had brought a silver spoon as a prop, which she would attempt to transfigure into a hand-mirror of the same material.

Hoping that using the charm for fire would count as sufficiently ladylike if Lorna didn't cast it on anything or anyone, she cast a leisurely "Incendio."

Miss Lestrange had done well for a first year! But her hand mirror was still the slightest bit spoonlike, whereas Miss Van Patten's incendio charm was near-flawless.

"Miss Van Patten takes the round," Elliot said, "She may also start the second."

Grinning to hear she'd gotten the first point, she swished her wand again and tried to cast a freezing charm on the fire, so that the flames might crackle into interesting-looking orange ice. Almost like a sculpture. Maybe.

Seneca was not pleased by her failure. She attempted to turn her "mirror" into a silver picture frame.

That had been close, but the first year's transfiguration was incredibly successful for her age level.

"Miss Lestrange takes the round, and will begin our tie-breaker," Elliot said.

Yes, this was much more to her liking!

Picture frames looked a lot like some pendants, so Seneca attempted to turn her picture frame into that.

Oh no! If she didn't try harder, she might be beaten by a first year. Chewing on her lip, Lorna tried for a colour-change charm, hoping her sort-of icy flames would begin to flicker green and blue and purple.

Miss Lestrange's frame was stuck as a half-frame-half-pendant thing. Miss Van Patten's flames flickered as intended.

"Miss Van Patten takes the duel!" Elliot announced.
