Crash! Bang! - Larkin Mishra - 02-07-2016

Larkin liked the weekends, but he also found them a little uncomfortable - especially Hogsmeade weekends. Telling people he was from a rich family when he wasn't was all good and well when you were wearing the same uniform as everyone else, but he didn't have any fancy clothes for weekends, and even if he had somehow managed to buy some he'd likely have to wear the same outfit over and over. He usually wore his school robes and claimed that all of his normal clothing was very exotic and he didn't want to stand out so much. If anyone ever questioned that, he did his best to change the subject before he ran out of excuses.

It was Larkin's intention to spend the rest of his Sunday before dinner in the common room with friends. He was headed for the basement, when there was suddenly a loud 'crash' and a suit of armor toppled over just in front of him. It seemed he wasn't the only one who had nearly gotten crushed, a boy he recognized from classes seemed to have been equally close to getting it. Or had it hit him in the fall? Larkin wasn't sure. "Well that was close!" he exclaimed, a little unnerved by the sudden development but otherwise fine. "Did you get hit by that?"

Jason sighed as he was on his way to the Slytherin common room. It had been a long day and he detested Hogsmeade weekends as he didn't know any people to go to the little village with. He would probably spend some time at the Three Broomsticks if he had some company, but there weren't many people that would enjoy it and he felt slightly out of place with the wealthier members of his House. He certainly wasn't what many would consider in the lower class, but he wasn't overly wealthy like the others. The young Slytherin fit in the category that some would call 'middle class'.

Most of his time before dinner was planned to be spent down in the common room, studying for his classes and seeing if he could find some time to practice his potion-making. A sudden 'crash' caught his attention and caused him to jump back and draw his wand. Thankfully, it was only a suit of armor that had unexpectedly fallen in front of him. The young man checked himself over for any scratches or injuries and was satisfied that he hadn't been injured. Looking up from the fallen suit of armor, the boy smiled a bit at a boy he recognized from some classes that they had. "Yeah," he confirmed, pocketing his wand. "I'm just glad neither one of us was hurt it seems." Smiling a bit at the other student, he noticed the somewhat familiar face and tried to recall where he had seen the other student before..

"I'm guessing you planned on spending the day in you common room?" It was an innocent question and he didn't mean anything by it. Mentally slapping himself, he held out his right hand. "Where are my manners? My name's William Arucius Osbourne. I don't think I caught yours."

Larkin had been straining to put a name to the face he very easily recognized. Was it Oswald? Orville? Oscar? None of them sounded right. Fortunately, he didn't have to think for too long before the boy introduced himself. It seemed silly to be properly meeting a student from his own year having spent four years in the same castle together, but they had really had very little opportunity to interact in the past.

He seemed friendly though, so it was surely a shame they hadn't properly met sooner. "Larkin Mishra, nice to meet you." He grinned back the other boy and conveniently left out his middle name. No one needed to know his mother had named him Larkin About. "And yes, I was on my way to the Hufflepuff basement. Are you a Slytherin? Their common room is supposed to be around here somewhere." He wasn't a Hufflepuff or else they would share a dormitory and a common room, not to mention Larkin knew all the boys and girls in his house and year. If he was looking for his common room then he had to be a Slytherin. Of course he could easily have been in the lower regions of the school for some other reason and be in one of the other two houses.
