Charles studied his reflection in the mirror as he shaved after his morning bath. By God, he looked old; when had that happened? He hadn't felt old when he'd had to retire from the Aurors, nor even when he'd been passed over for the promotion to Head of the DMLE. He sighed as the white hairs of his immaculately-trimmed beard fell into the washbowl. He'd started growing it a year ago today. That had probably been the start of this old age trouble, too. Now clean-shaven, he opened his wardrobe, pushing aside the various garments of black, charcoal, and navy, reaching for something he hadn't worn in a while. A royal purple tie would do nicely alongside the freshly-starched shirt the chambermaid had left out for him. He had it on good authority from Herschel that they were making him an Interrogator today, so he intended to look smart at assembly, even more than usual. Four years of hard work paying off, and none harder than the past twelve months. He finished dressing and donned his coat, preparing to leave the small but luxurious Irvingly townhouse he called home. As he reached for the Floo Powder above the fireplace, his other hand brushed against the silver necklace in his pocket. He took it out and paused for just a moment before setting it on the mantle, then tossed the powder into the fire. "Ministry of Magic," he said authoritatively, stepping into the fireplace as the network whisked him to the office.
