Power Dynamics [Black's] - Tiberius Lestrange - 10-23-2017

This was the second day of what Tiberius thought rather vaguely might be the rest of his life. He'd convinced Cassius to get on board with his rather unorthodox proposal, which meant that he'd done the hard part in terms of fixing the problem of Antigone's withered womb. Now, the only thing to do was to wait and see whether Cassius was capable of holding up his end of the bargain. Tiberius had his doubts on that front, stemming from the fact that his cousin had never seemed to be successful at anything in life except things that didn't matter (Quidditch), but he could hardly intervene. Even if he was inclined to be that involved in Cassius' search for a bride, Tiberius was hardly a Cassanova. Had he been in his cousin's shoes, the search probably would have entailed nothing more than asking Lucius to find him someone suitable. Since it wasn't as though Cassius was normal, it was hardly as though it would make any difference to him.

That being said, though, he'd given Cassius two weeks to make some progress, and there was nothing to do in the meantime except wait. He'd gone to Black's because he was keen on avoiding spending any excess time at home with his wife at the moment, but no sooner had he arrived and interred himself in one of the armchairs than a political discussion arose around him. Politics was the talk of the day, of course, with the Ministerial campaign on, but Tiberius hadn't paid much attention to the issues or platforms just yet. Truth be told, he was a little annoyed that none of his distant relatives had stepped up to run.

Realizing that the person who'd started up this conversation was, in fact, one of the candidates, Tiberius rather lazily injected himself into the dialogue. "Well, what do you propose?" he asked; so far all he'd overheard had been a complaint of the problem*, not any concrete way forward.

RE: Power Dynamics [Black's] - Conrí Power - 10-23-2017

Conrí knew that he needed to truly start getting to work on spreading the word about his running. The problem was, no one seemed to take him seriously. It was a frustrating development indeed. Something that he was not too pleased about. Even Witch Weekly didn't take him seriously. One of the candidates got not one, but two articles about them in the paper. It was frustrating, knowing that he had not yet even been interviewed. He needed to get the word out more than ever.

Now he was at the club that his father had first gotten him into, after he had graduated. One that he hoped his future sons would one day join. It was hear that he hoped his words would have the most weight. He had been a part of this club for a while, even if he wasn't here as much as some of these other men.

He had started a conversation with a couple of men over the education of children, and some changes that could be made. Even if he hoped for heirs, he was not sure how interested in his children he would actually be, when the time came. His father hadn't shown much interest until he was a teen, and it was more as the heir to his fortune, and less as father-son bonding. He did look up to the man, and felt as though he, himself, had turned out alright.

The discussion had turned to funding. How could it not turn to funding? That was what kept things progressing, money. Was there enough, or too much. Where was it going? He had been expressing how he felt that too little was going towards books. After all, that was where the students learned the most.

He was listening to a comment, when another voice joined into the conversation. He looked over to the man responsible, a friendly smile on his face. "More charity funding could not hurt, and is an excellent excuse for parties. As well as shifting some of the funding to the books, rather than anything that doesn't need the funding as much." He stated. Though, he would have to talk to Mr. Black more on the issue, if the man was interested in speaking to him. Possibly not, it was less of the Ministries business than the Headmaster, but that didn't mean that the Ministry couldn't help to better the educations of the possible future leaders of their society.

RE: Power Dynamics [Black's] - Tiberius Lestrange - 10-26-2017

Tiberius wasn't really in favor of charity or social events, really, but he knew better than to come right out and say as much. Everyone had to profess at least some passing interest in aiding charitable causes and improving the situation of the poor, and all that nonsense, but at the end of the day, Tiberius wasn't particularly keen on anyone trying to part him from any of his money, either that he had earned or what he'd inherited. Giving funds away to charities seemed like a disservice to his own future heirs, really. Money was power, power was prestige. Why would he choose to try and elevate the unfortunate at the expense of the Lestrange name and its future?

He also hated having to go to social events, and saw them as a necessary evil--a price one had to pay in order to continue to exist as a member of respectable society, but certainly not something that he wanted any more of. But those were not the sorts of things you said.

"And what would you say doesn't need funding?" he asked with a frown. Power's proposal seemed vague, at best--and Tiberius was not at all convinced of the need for an increased scholarship for books. It wasn't as though he had ever needed financial help paying for his books, after all; why should the families who had worked hard to establish themselves in the positions that they had be required to subsidize the educations of those who had not? "Are you proposing we cancel student clubs, or disband the Quidditch team, affecting all the students, to pay for books for a handful of poor wretches?" he challenged. "Or sack a professor for a subject you don't think is as essential?"
