Cassandra Trelawney had been one of Sam's better friends since their school years. She was a year Sam's junior age-wise, but two years below him in school. She had warned him early on to be careful around Rose, and he had listenedà for the most part. He was trying to be a gentleman, and be good to her, but she had been the one who nearly rape him. It had been her lips that had brushed his cheek and brought about feelings of electricity, and it had been she who suggested they ditch her chaperone. It had been she who had torn his shirt off of his body and it had been she who had made every first move. He wasn't sure why, but the fact that she came from an upper class family and was so brazen and bold made him want her even more than he had wanted her before. Just being next to her and hoping to brush arms by mistake (or not) was no longer good enough for him, and he knew that he could never be whole without her again. For whatever it was worth, he had loved her more passionately in the small amount of time they had together than most people would ever be able to feel in an entire lifetime.

He sighed. Sam was standing on the porch of the Trelawney household in the lower class section of Hogsmeade, properly entitled æthe Slums.' It wasn't a place he traveled to often, though he had made his fair share of house calls while being an intern and just on-call at the hospital. Ahhh, such was the life of someone who worked at a hospital, giving up their own lives in order to better the lives of others. Sam raised his right hand, which he hadn't previously noticed but which was already balled into a fist, and rapped his knuckles on the old, moth-eaten wood door. Cassandra hadn't known that he was coming, but he was fairly certain that she would've known he would be there if she wanted to. If not, then it would be a great surprise. Sam took a few steps back from the door and surveyed the broken down place. It was really quite a mess. If he ever found a day where he wasn't working and needed a break from his research, he made note to propose to Cassandra he stop by and do some touch-up work on the place. It really wasn't in any shape or condition for people to be living in.

Although it was always nice to see Cassandra and make sure that her mental well being was better than the previous time he had seen her, Sam had an agenda today. He felt as though he had imposed on his sister and her family for far too long and while she begged to differ, he was a twenty three year old man who very well could have and should have been living in his own place. As a member of the middle class, it was necessary that he show that he could provide for himself so that someone would want to marry their daughter to him- though he was in NO rush to marry. Sam didn't think that he would ever be as turned on by a woman as he had been with Roslyn, and he was in no hurry to find out if that was true or false. Sam was happy being alone. He felt as though he were a failure. On one hand, he didn't want to hurt anyone the way he had hurt not only Roslyn and their son, but her family and his family, as well as their friends. On the other hand, Sam couldn't bear to think about betraying Roslyn in such a way.

So, he was off to look for an apartment. While he was more than capable of doing it on his own, Sam wanted company. He figured that since Cassandra was officially trying to get on her own two feet again that she might want to join him. More than anything he hoped she would, because he had a wonderful idea to propose to her, now that she was getting back into life and reality. Of course, he couldn't ask her that question unless she wanted to go apartment and house shopping with him, so he clasped his hands behind his back, took a step back towards the door and prayed that Cassandra would either open the door or at least be home.

i know so don't say anything.

    | I POURED OUT MY HEART WHEN NO ONE WAS LISTENING. NOW I'D DO ANYTHING TO SLEEP,
    | CUZ THE VOICE IN MY HEAD IS SCREAMING.

It was a good week for a certain Cassandra Trelawney. Usually she had visions and prophetic dreams quite often, but she hadn't one in a week! It was a good thing for Cass who could sometimes get very tired of her gift. Through the years she got used to having it and found out it could be useful at times. It was both a blessing and a curse. It took her a lot of time to finally come to terms with that Fate has offered her. It wasn't easy, but she finally did it and that allowed her to stand on her two feet again.

Of course if it wasn't for the little help from her friends, she would probably never be sane again. Everything she saw, everything she felt, influenced her in a way that no one knew. When she had a vision about Sam and that girl.... It terrified her, she thought that she needs to make sure it will not happen, even though she didn't remember the details. When Roslyn and his baby died, Cass did her best to comfort him, never admitting that she blamed herself for not helping him the best to her ability. She felt as if she failed him then, as if it was her fault that the love of his life died during childbirth.

Cassie knew well that it wasn't in her power to stop this from happening but it didn't make her feel any better. Of course, she had never admitted that. He didn't need to think about it anymore, he had his own fare share of problems. Cassandra had always admired his decision, that he decided to help people so they don't have to go through the same things he did. Sam was the sweetest man Cass had ever met and whenever he was around, she felt safe. She knew that he wouldn't allow anyone to hurt her. Especially if that person would be herself.

Yes, possessing a friend like Sam was certainly great, he was a real treasure. Whenever he came to visit her, Cass brightened up like a little sunshine. Normally she wasn't fond of people visiting her, but there were a few of them allowed to pop in. However, only Sam was welcomed there. Through that hard time when she tried to figure out how to live with her gift, he was there offering comfort, though he himself was not feeling his best at that moment.

Cass had not expected him to come there, it's been a while since she received guests in her family home in the slums. Especially Sam, who was busy at the hospital. Of course, is she focused on it, she'd probably see that event, but she didn't want to. Cass felt good not being tormented by visions or prophecies. Working as a maid for Blanche certainly did good for her. Two years ago, Cass was afraid of meeting people, afraid they'll ask about her gift, torment her with that. Now, she discovered that not everyone was like that.

Believe it or not, it was a very refreshing thought for this young lady. During those two years of service, she finally stood on her own two feet. She also learned that her gift wasn't all that bad. When she "tuned in" with her close ones, she was capable of making unpleasant events less painful, because one cannot change fate completely, it can only be altered. That's what Cassandra had realized over the years. Her mission was to make sure that the message was heard by the people that should know about it, but it wasn't in her "job description" to try and help them to the best of her ability. She was jut a human, after all and she still felt like a child.

Cassie was alone at home when she heard someone knocking at the door. She was surprised, because as far as he knew they did not expect any visitors that day. Or maybe something skipped her mind? That was also possible. Not thinking about it any longer, she opened the door. It was the person she thought about all morning. At once, she felt a little ashamed of how she looked. The dress was neat and clean, but it was way out of fashion (not that Cass cared about it) and heir hair, which loosely fell on her shoulders, were to put it simply, a mess.

"Sam! Cassandra exclaimed happily, forgetting at once about all those things that troubled her mind just a moment ago. "How lovely to see you! Come in, maybe you want something to drink?" She asked, really excited to have a guest.

Sam waited for a few minutes before the door was pulled opened to reveal a rather stunning Cassandra Trelawney. She had made a comment in passing so many years ago about sometimes feeling embarrassed by the fact that she couldn't afford the proper clothes or something to that extent, but he had always been amazed at how well put together she was for someone from the lower class. He gave the woman a lot of credit, especially after what she had gone through. Although he knew she had sunk into something terrible, Sam couldn't put all the blame on her. She was only one woman, and there was so much that she had gone through. Her family didn't seem to be much of a help, either. For years, Sam had visited her and left with a feeling of foreboding, though that was technically Cassandra's job, and prayed that things would look up for the beautiful young woman. She had never attracted him in the past, and he didn't find her beautiful in that way. To Sam, Cassandra was just one of those beautiful people who could help anyone if she could, but knew how to temper it with her own sanity.

Today, he caught his breath. The way the pink rose in her cheeks when she opened the door and processed who was standing there, the way she excitedly exclaimed his nameà She was beautiful. This time, perhaps he saw it in a different way.

Sam bowed to Cass as she was inviting him in, and when he stood up, he grinned. "That would be wonderful, Cassandra, thank you," he said, seemingly accepting the proposal. There was a large knot in his stomach as he tried to gain the courage to ask Cass if she wanted to go house hunting with him. He knew he had to gather the courage quickly, before she thought he was rude for supposedly accepting her invitation inside and not acting upon it. "Actually, I was wondering if I could ask you something," he started, his voice trailing off at the end. It had been a long time since he had asked a woman for help with anything. He believed that they were men's equals, but he just didn't ask women for help, or anyone for help at all. Sam's fatal flaw. He felt as though he should be the protector of the world, and that any misfortune he should bear on his shoulders. "Erm, well I had this idea," he said, unclasping his hands and shoving them in his trouser pockets. Sam hung his head and rolled his eyes so he was looking at the porch. He had never really had much confidence when it came to asking for help. "I want to move out of my sister's place." With that, he rolled his eyes up to look at Cass and gauge her response before carrying on. "I.. I was thinking, well hoping is more like it, that you would want to come with me?" Sam took in a deep breath and bit his lower lip, regaining full standing posture. Now that he had actually asked the question, and his head was swimming, he could breath again.

"It would really help. I mean, I don't have much of an idea of what I'm looking for, and figured that perhaps a woman's help, your help, wouldà well, help me out." Oh Merlin. He was rambling. Rambling was never good. It was a sign of agitation and nervousness. Sam had never been nervous before, so why would it start now? "If you don't have to, that's alright, too," he added quickly, hoping that Cass wasn't feeling pressured at all by his shocking request. "I justà I thought it would be nice. Perhaps get you out of the house, spend some time togetherà We could get lunch, if you would like?" The more he talked, the more it sounded like a date. Sam could only imagine what would happen if he had come to ask her father for permission to court her. He had never had that experience before, and he was terribly afraid for the day when he would have his first experience with it.

    | I POURED OUT MY HEART WHEN NO ONE WAS LISTENING. NOW I'D DO ANYTHING TO SLEEP,
    | CUZ THE VOICE IN MY HEAD IS SCREAMING.

Cass was happy that she had such wonderful friends. Without them she would truly be lost, at least in her opinion. She fought with herself for many years, but they didn't leave her. Not one of them asked to tell them their future, they cared for her. Of course, they couldn't actually understand what she was going through, but they helped her in any way they could. It was more than enough for Cassie to be glad they were there. As much as she loved her family, they weren't much help.

    A

Her mother, except for the fact she had to work hard, was an airhead. Cassandra loved her mother dearly, but that was the undeniable truth, whether Freya wanted it or not. Her mom fell in love easily and was prone to making stupid decisions. She wasn't too supportive, mainly because she was working all days. Of course, there was also the fact she couldn't understand how Cass feels and how it affects her. The other person was Bambi, her younger sister. Bam-Bam, as she affectionately called the girl, was very curious about her future. To be honest, she was a little egoistic about it, but Cassie only told her it doesn't work when she wants it to. The other members of the family she kept at a distance, not wanting them to have to deal with all that mess she brought with herself.

In Cassandra Trelawney's eyes she was a big mess, trouble that others like Sam tried to clean up. Sam....Cass still blamed herself that she didn't watch him and that girl closely, that she didn't react in time. What were those stupid visions for if she couldn't save people close to her from the pain?! It was all useless, all bullshit! It's not like she could help anyone with those visions, she wasn't able to help a single sole yet, so why was all that necessary?

Seeing Sam, made all the worries go away, at least for some time. He was always a welcome guest at their house. It was one of the best men she had ever encountered. When he accepted the proposal, Cass smiled happy and stepped a little back, so he could get in, but he didn't. She looked at him, wondering if she did something wrong unknowingly. It was typical of her. When he started to say, she could obviously tell he had a trouble with it. Cassandra knew exactly what that meant: he was going to ask her for something. The young woman smiled even wider to encourage him. His question actually surprised her, but she learned through years not to show that. People didn't like it. At least most of them didn't. They quickly got irritated and it was definitely something Cass wanted to avoid.

I would love to go house-hunting with you. Getting lunch is also a good idea. So... let me just put something on myself and then the two of us can go. Cass nodded her head with agreement. Her voice was as usually warm and cheerful. She simply loved Sam's company. Go in, I'll be back in a few minutes. The young woman added, disappearing inside the house for a while, before returning with a cape over her dress. Shall we go, Mr Bowen? The brunette asked, taking him under his arm, even though she probably shouldn't have done that. Not that she cared about etiquette, but she cared about his reputation. Her couldn't already be worse. He had more to lose.

When Cass agreed to go house hunting with him, Sam had to stifle the smile he felt growing on his face. Cass was a lovely young women who's company he enjoyed with or without prophecies. He hadn't asked her to tag along because she might be able to see into the future and see what house he would eventually chose to live in, but because she was one of the few people he could count on for a true opinion. Sam would've taken his sister along, but she was married with four kids and had her hands full as it was. She didn't need his help adding more stress and craziness to her life. Granted, all of his nieces and nephews were off at school already and Larissa had the time to spare, but he didn't really want to bug her about this. It was silly, something he should be able to do on his own. However, he understood that, as a male, there were always going to be some things that females would always be better at than him.

Sam watched as Cass happily made her way back into her house, and he followed her into the dimly lit entranceway. He had been in her house dozens of times, and yet it never ceased to shock him at how plainly people could live. He knew that his life had been a moderate one all of his years growing up, and had Larissa not taken him in after his father kicked him out, he very easily could've been and would've stayed lower class. This would've been the life he would've lead. It wasn't a bad one, per say, but wasn't the best either. It wasn't the place where children could be raisedà Sam stopped short. He hadn't let himself think about children for a very long time. Sure, he was surrounded daily by women who were pregnant; he had delivered an uncountable amount of babies, and had helped women survive through the birthing process which his beloved Rose didn't live through. Children were great and he loved his nieces and nephews, but children just weren't in the cards for him. Not after what had happened. Sam had already come to terms with the fact that he was never going to be with another woman and that he would never again hold his own infant in his arms as he had done when he was seventeen, as he said both hello and goodbye to his first and only child, his son.

Cass pulled Sam's thoughts from the past and placed him back at present. She slipped her arm through his, even though he hadn't offered it, as if she had been reading his mind. Without being able to stop it, Sam smiled. All thoughts of the past were gone and his mind was once again on the task at hand- finding a suitable home. "Off we go, then!"

Sam swept Cass from her home and with the excitement of a small child, pulled her off to Bartonburg, where the modest homes were. The area was not crime riddled, nor was it exploding with sprawling manors, but it was lovely and comfortable. Many of the homes were townhouse style, homes attached in rows. Sam supposed that would be a good place to start, and he directed Cass to a townhouse which he was intending to purchase. A man greeted them at the door, and Sam introduced him to Miss Cassandra Trelawney, "a friend whom is helping me pick out the proper home." They toured the home- the upstairs with it's three bedrooms and two baths, and the downstairs with it's living room, kitchen, dining room and another half bath. Sam pulled out a chair for Cass and sat after she had. "So, what do you think of the home?" Her opinion meant more to him than anyone else's would.

    | I POURED OUT MY HEART WHEN NO ONE WAS LISTENING. NOW I'D DO ANYTHING TO SLEEP,
    | CUZ THE VOICE IN MY HEAD IS SCREAMING.

Cass and Sam had been best friends since what seemed to be forever to her. From the day she met this man, who was then just a boy, she knew that he is a man that will be there for her everytime there's a need for it and she was right. Around him, she could be herself. The prophecies or visions or other quirks of her were all known to him well and he never said a bad word about that. In fact, he was a perfect gentleman. Perfect friend. He was there when she needed him the most, after the huge dissapointment she was for him.

Truth be told, after the whole thing with his baby, Cass thought he will never speak to her again. She blamed herself for not forseeing that, for being too vague, for not helping him enough and on time. Then the visions and prophecies made her life a living hell and she was no longer to help even herself. Then, Sam came along. He was there for her during her darkest, hardest times. Supported her even though she failed him during such a hard time in his life. It was amazing to her.

After all these years, he still was able to surprise her, always bringing a smile on her face. He had this unique ability to do that, to make her laugh even when she didn't feel like it. To make her feel needed by other people than her family. Truth be told, it was probably her who needed him more, but she liked to be there for him, say thank you for all he did for her. If it wasn't for him, the darkness in her life would have swallowed her in whole in the very beggining, like it did with poor Sarah.

Sometimes she regretted that her little birdie didn't have anyone like him in her life, but she wasn't so keen on sharing him, either, though she had no idea why was that exactly. Jelaousy wasn't really in her style. It wasn't her at all, to be honest. She had no idea what made her like that, nor did she want to know. Her arm slipped through his naturally, with a soft smile on her lips. Cass didn't need to ask, she knew Sam well enough to know he'd offer her it anyway.

His excitement made her laugh the way she hadn't in a long time. Her eyes had happy sparkles in them and a full grown, enthusiasitc smile was plastered to her lips. "Yes, sir!" She exclaimed, suddenly feeling overhelmed with energy, what hadn't taken place for a long time. They arrived at Bartonburg, he showed her the townhouse he wanted to buy. It seemed nice, but a little...cold at the same time. Cass had no idea what it was, but she certainly did not like the aura of that place and would never let Sam, with his fragile soul, live there. When he pulled out a chair for her, Cass gladly took a sit, taking deep breaths, blocking herself from all the images this house brought to her.
"It's a beautiful home, but the aura...The aura isn't right for someone like you. If that makes any sense...

Sam liked the house, but it was only because it was so much like his sister's home. He wasn't sure if it was a home for him, if it really fit him. That was part of the reason he had wanted Cass to come with him. She had been his oldest friend, and who knew him well and quite possibly better than he knew himself. Sam could've taken his sister with him, but she was busy with her own life. He didn't really have many other friends, especially not ones he would feel comfortable with helping him pick out a home. Another reason he wanted Cass to come with him was because he was hoping she would live with him, once a home was picked out. It was a long shot, and he knew it, but he hoped that she would. On one hand, it would be nice to not live alone, especially after living with his sister, brother-in-law, two nieces and two nephews. Going from a full house to a completely empty one would be weird. He also thought that perhaps if Cass lived with him, she would feel better about herself, be less of a burden on her mother who already had to feed three or four of her other children, Cass not included.

He sat at the table and listened to Cass. She said that the aura wasn't much like him, and asked if it made sense. He shook his head. "No, not really, but I trust you." He didn't understand what an aura was or why it wasn't him, but his trust in Cass superseded anything that he thought. Sam stood up, pushed his chair in and offered his hand to Cass to help her stand up. Continuing to hold her hand in his, a somewhat unconscious action, Sam expressed to the agent that he would like to see other houses that the agent has to offer.

The agent took them from house to house. For whatever reasons, Cass didn't like them. One after another, there was something off about them. He began to wonder if she knew what he was thinking, nixing houses because she didn't like them and didn't want to live in them in the future. Sam smiled to himself as Cass nixed the fourth house they went into. He hadn't realized that she was so picky and opinionated, but it didn't matter to him. He was having an amazing time with her. The agent told him that there was only one more house that they could visit before they would have to call it quits for the day. Sam shrugged and said that it was fine, and his stomach let out an awkward growl, reminding Sam of his lunch date promise to Cass. He sent her a glance, trying to let her know that he would make it up to her. According to his watch, it was almost three in the afternoon, nearly four hours after they had originally set out on their day's journey.

The last home they saw was a bit larger than the others, and the second detached home of the five. They toured the home- the upstairs with three bedrooms and a master suite, and the downstairs with it's living room, family room, dining room and kitchen. The attic was not finished, but once finished it could easily be turned into another bedroom. Or even a playroom, Sam thought, surprising himself with the thought. "I love the layout of the home," Sam said to Cass, pulling out a chair for Cass and sitting down after she had. He really hoped she liked the house.

Cassandra Trelawney was very concerned about her friends well-being, perhaps because she didn't have many of them or maybe it was about her visions that made her be so protective of them. Whatever it was, it caused her to go to, very often extreme, lengths to make them safe and happy. Even if it sometimes meant sacrificing her own happiness. Sam was one of her best friends, if not the best of them. He was always there when she needed him, even if she didn't ask him to do it. Somehow, he just knew and always showed up right in time.

Sam's friendship meant the world to her, he was one of the best friends she could ever imagine she'll have. He has gone through many bad things in his life and she wanted to help him out the best to her ability. Sam deserved much more than life offered him up until now and Cass needed to make sure he won't be suffering again. So if she felt something was wrong with one of the houses, she told the agent straight away. The woman would never let her best friend live in a place that wasn't appropriate for him.

Finally, they reached the last house and Cass knew it was perfect right away, without even entering. She looked around and immediately knew it wa s it. The tour wasn't necessary, it only awoke in her a feeling of jealousy that Sam will live in such a beautiful place. The house was perfect and she barely hid tears when she realized that she could never afford such a house. Cass looked at the wall, avoiding looking directly at Sam, she didn't want to worry him. "You should take it, Sam. It's a great house. You'll be happy here." She said with her voice a little shaky.

With his unblinking hazel eyes, Sam watched Cass as she thought for the briefest of moments about the house. He supposed she was figuring out it's aura, if it suited him or not. He didn't think that he would ever understand what exactly an aura was or why one had to fit him, but he trusted Cass to do her own thing. As a twenty three year old man, he was hardly capable of choosing his own home, let alone one that he would be living in for quite some time. If Sam had been apartment shopping, that would have been a whole different thing all together. Sam could've picked out an apartment; there wasn't much thought that had to go into that. But a house? A house where he planned on living for the rest of his life, more or less? That was a lot of pressure for Sam. What if he picked the wrong one? What if he eventually did get married and the house wasn't good enough for his hypothetical future wife and hypothetical future children? That's what he had brought Cass along for.

He frowned when she spoke. Cass couldn't look directly at him and her voice shook. It was the proper house for him, she had said, but she looked soà miserable. He couldn't figure what it was. They had been having such a lovely time all afternoon, and while the day had waned on and it was far past lunchtime (and he had noted that he owed her a delicious lunch out for helping him choose a home and for being so patient with him as he dragged her around with him), she had seemed to be in good spirits when they had first come to the home. Sam shrugged it off and took a deep breath, knowing that soon he would live in this house, and if all went well, Cass would soon live in the house with him.

He immediately got a vision of he and Cass sitting on a couch in front of a warm fire, cuddled up under a blanket while outside it snowed. It was a warm, comforting vision, one he had never expected to see with anyone other than Rosie. It had been a dream of his, to be sitting so comfortably in their own home, small children playing with their toys on the floor in front of them. A passing thought of children saddened Sam as he realized that he would never again have a child. He had buried his first, and determinedly only, son at the same time he had buried his beautiful and young fiancÚ. With a heavy heart, Sam shook himself out of the past and dragged himself back to the present. Standing in what seemed to be an overly mechanized motion, Sam turned to the agent. "Excuse me, would you mind stepping outside while my friend and I discuss the house in detail? I would like to have a clear mind and feel no pressure while doing so." Sam escorted the agent onto the front porch and shut the door as the man begrudgingly crossed the threshold.

Back with Cass, Sam sat down and pulled her hands into his and held them there. "Look at me," Sam said, the first somewhat demanding thing Sam had ever said to someone in a very long time. "Please, Cass." When she looked at him, he took a deep breath. Her big brown eyes were that of a doe eyed deer. It melted his heart in a way that Rosie's emerald green ones never had. The feeling was strange, and he felt both traitorous and relieved. "Listen, Cass. I need to know something. Would you want to live in this house?" He listened to her reply, and though he could hear the sadness in her voice, a sort of longing, his heart swelled. Butterflies spontaneously appeared in his stomach and he realized that this was it. He had to ask her now or he would never be able to ask her. He smiled warmly at Cass and asked her, "Well, how would you like to live here? à.with me?" He held his breath and waited for her answer.

    Old friend
Why are you so shy? Ain't like you to hold back

    Or hide from the light

Sometimes even though a person had a lot of siblings and a lot of people to turn to in times of sadness, they could feel very lonely. Cassandra Trelawney had quite a number of other people around her, she gave them all of herself, but at times she really felt lonely. Those days only Sam could cure her mood. She never knew what this boy, and now man, has in him that made her feel so good, comfortable and happy around him. Perhaps it was his good nature and the fact he always put others before him... It was a very alluring quality of his that Cass greatly appreciated.

In a way, it was a relief to be around someone who thought in similar way to her. She didn't have to explain to him why she did something, he knew and never inquired. Most important of all, he never asked her to foresee something for him. Sam was a completely selfless person, devoted to helping people and she adored that in him. He was a part of her life for so long that she no longer could even think about him not being present in it.

The young woman rarely thought about herself, but somehow both of them being present of that house made her consider her future. She was in a way doomed to be a maid, not completing her school education and she would ever be able to afford such a house. It was a perfect place and she knew it, that's why it pained her so much that she will never have it. Of course, she was happy for Sam, but deep inside she envied him. He could have everything he wanted, when she had to settle for living the rest of her life on someone's mercy, if she didn't want to be poor

When someone asked the other man to step out, Cass was surprised. What crazy idea had he thought of this time? When he demanded that she looks at him, the brunette simply couldn't refuse, like he had this strange power over her. When he asked, her eyes became all teary from happiess.
I would love to, Sam! I would love to! She said, trying to stop herself from crying.

    18th December 1881

It was Cassandra's birthday, but for her it could not have been that day at all. So concerned with her work and other people, the young woman had forgotten about it almost completely. It also wasn't like she had specially celebrated it in the past. She didn't mind people not remembering her birthday's, because she didn't remember about it either. There were much more important things to do than celebrate the day she officially got older. That was the fact, though, when the clock had announced it's 5 in the morning, Cassandra Trelawney had officially turned 23.

The woman supposed she should feel different, because of it, but she didn't. Not at all. Like any other day, she woke up at 5, so she could get to Blanche's, or rather mister Viehl's, before her mistress wakes up. Everything had to be ready then, because Cass was the woman's personal maiden for a reason, after all. It wasn't like she could afford losing this job. She looked outside through one of the windows and found that the roads were completely covered with snow. After some struggle, she opened the doors, only to see that there was no way she could go to her employers house in this weather.

There was so much snow the door barely opened, and the amount of it would surely reach higher than her calves. She was sure there was no way she'd get miss Hawke's home on foot. Shivering slightly from the cold outside, when Cass closed the door and lit the fire in the fireplace in the living-room, to make sure that at least this room will be warm, as it was highly unlikely that they will have the chance of going out anywhere for the rest of the day if not longer.

Normally, Cass would wake Sam up for breakfast if he had to go to work, but he had a day off. The young woman didn't really want to wake him, but after finishing with everything that there was to do, she decided she has to. The brunette went to his bedroom, sat at the edge of his bed and shook him slightly, telling him to wake up. To her surprise, Sam didn't wake up, but instead pulled her into bed with him, hugging tightly. The woman had to admit, it was very surprising, but pleasant. If it was ay other man, Cassandra would not be alright with that, but it was Sam, and that whole statement was enough. Trying to free herself from her best friends arms, Cass said to Sam's ear:

Let me go, silly, you're hurting me. Plus, it's time to wake up. Her voice was warm and caring, but loud enough it should wake him up. Or so she hoped, because her body started to react strangely to his hands around her. It began to get hot and she felt a pleasure, like she'd feel if it was her lover. It was Sam, though! She couldn't have felt anything of that sorts towards him. Or could she?

    never say never

Some things we don't talk about better do without just hold a smile we're falling in and out of love the same damn problem together all the while you can never say never why we don't know when time and time again younger now then we were before picture, you're the queen of everything as far as the eye can see under your command i will be your guardian when all is crumbling steady your hand we're falling apart and coming together again and again don't let

Sam had purposefully taken off the day for Cass's birthday. It was uncharacteristic for Sam to ever take a day off of work, and when mandatorily given one, he was often volunteering at the hospital anyway. He had always been one to submerge himself into his work, and focused primarily on getting things done. Rosieà she had been a mistake. The best mistake of his life, but a mistake none the less. They had sex only once. He had gotten her pregnant. She had died because of him, because of his mistake. He knew better than to do something like that. That was the worst part- knowing that he had known better. Perhaps if he hadn't known better, if he had been stupid or a simpleton, it would?ve been alright and he could've happily lived with himself, but as it was, he wasn't stupid or a simpleton. He was quite intelligent and he knew better.

And since that had happened, Sam focused on work. He had sworn to himself to never allow anything to get between him and work ever again, but there it was. He was working on a surprise party for Cassandra. He invited all of her friends and family over, and they would all be there when she got home from work. He hadn't even bothered to try and convince Cass to take off of work; she wouldn't have listened to him anyway. He figured that he could sleep for a bit after Cassie left for work, then wake up on his own, stretch out in bed for awhile and then focus on cleaning the house and getting it ready for her party. Everyone was due to arrive at four, but if her mother hadn't forgotten, she was due at the house around three. That didn't give Sam a lot of time to prepare food and drinks and clean and get everything set up.

He was dreaming about Cass. They had separate rooms, despite living together. She paid for nothing, as far as Sam knew, because he wouldn't accept money from her. She was his guest, more or less, and he had invited her to live with her in a no strings attached sort of way. They were best friends. He loved her company and her payment for allowing her to live with him was just the pleasure of being allowed to be around her all the time when they were both at home. It was a unique situation, but the press didn't care too much. After all, he was only middle class and she was lower class. The Prophet couldn't care to write about either one of them. It wasn't enough juicy gossip and only a few people actually knew either one of them.

For those who knew Sam and Cass, they knew that there could be no people more deserving of all the happiness the world could bring to them. They were both kind hearted souls, though Sam often came off as cold and unconcerned, and did all that they could in order to make the lives of everyone around them better. Most people would say they deserved each other, and Sam hoped they were right. Part of his reason behind asking Cassie to live with him was because he was hiding his true feelings for her, and was hoping perhaps living with her would give him better insight into how she felt about him. He loved her, loved her possibly more than he had loved Rosie. He had loved Rosie in a young sort of way. They had only been sixteen, after all. He was twenty three now, and understood love better than he had back then.

When Cassie tried to wake him up, Sam was still half asleep. In a semi-lucid dream state, Sam still thought he was dreaming and figured that it couldn't hurt to pull her into bed with him. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her into bed with him. She was light as anything, and he could've sworn the pressure of her body against his was real. He nuzzled his nose into her hair and sighed, realizing that he wished nothing more than for that to be real. It wasn't until Cassie whispered into his ear that he was hurting her and it was time to wake up did Sam's eyelids snap open. He realized only then that he hadn't been in a dream and that he had actually pulled Cassie into bed with him. He stared at her for a moment, terrified of what she might think. She didn't seem scared or appalled by what he had done, so Sam let himself be seduced into smiling and holding her closer to him. He adjusted the blankets so she was tucked under them and could stay warm, too.

"Mmm, no work today?" Sam asked Cass, not exactly putting together two and two that it was her birthday. He wasn't that awake yet. "That's okay. We can stay warm like this all day."

Cass was very happy ever since she moved in with Sam. She finally had what she wanted so much a place of her own. Of course, she liked living with miss Hawk and duke Viehl, but as much as she wanted, it wasn't her home. The house they had in the Slums was the closest thing she had to home for many years. However, when she grew up it became too tight for her. She wanted her siblings to have more space and miss Hawk's offer was very kind so she gladly accepted it. The day she met her boss was perhaps one of the happiest in her life.

The day Sam asked her to live with him was, as of then, the best day of her life. Her friend was a truly wonderful man. One that supported her through the tough times, even though he had his own problems. He was the one to pull her out of her misery, the deepest, darkest corners of her mind that slowly took control over him. The support he gave her was perhaps the best thing anyone has ever offered her without actually wanting anything. Sam was a wonderful human and when around him, Cass only hoped to be at least half as good as him.

Now, when they actually lived together, she took care of him as much as she could. Because he deserved it. She could never be thankful enough for what he did for her, she knew she could never repay him for all that kindness he gave her and that he never bothered her for premonition. In some ways, she acted like his wife. Every day, whether it was a working day for miss Trelawney or not, she woke up before Sam to make him breakfast, as she wanted to make sure he eats properly before going to his work. As she worked from dawn till dusk, she couldn't make sure of that in any other way than making him breakfast herself.

This morning wasn't different, even though he had a day off. She just felt that it was her duty in a way. That day she did the same as usual. Cassandra really liked doing things for Sam. It made her happy, because she felt useful. Sam insisted on treating her as a guest and didn't let her pay for anything which made her feel silly and completely useless.

It wasn't a good feeling she didn't want to use Sam in any way, she owed him so much already. With each passing day, she felt as if needed him more and more. Some strange feelings have developed inside her and Sam had evolved in her eyes, though she was yet unsure of the exact meaning of all this. It was all strange and new, yet unseen by her seemingly all-knowing eyes. Cass pushed it all away, feeling as it was ridiculous. However, when he pulled her into bed with him, it was hard to do it.

When he put his arm around her, Cassie felt as a very pleasant warm feeling wakes up in her body. She wanted this moment to last. She wasn't appalled by this, she didn't want to go out of the warm bed and free herself from his arms. Even if it hurt her tiny posture a little, she didn't notice it. It felt good being in Sam's arms and right now she didn't want to be anywhere else in the world.

I could barely open the door. The weather is terrible. She said, tucking away a wisp of her hair and looking into Sam's eyes with a soft smile. Before she could stop herself, she kissed him. Something told her to do so. She just couldn't stop. No, not couldn't didn't want to. It was way too pleasant to stop, so why would she?

For the first time in her life, she let the feelings completely take her over and let her kisses become more and more passionate. The feeling of passion simply took over her body and she was in no way to stop it from overwhelming now, because it was too late. Soon, her lips went down from his to his neck and his hands she placed on her dress so he could help her get out of it. In that moment, she didn't think. She let her body take control, fulfill its desires and not think about possible consequences. At least for now.

It had been a very bold move, asking Cass to move in. It wasn't something that Sam would typically do. He was one of those people, the kind who keep to themselves, don't share too much information with anyone and focus on the task at hand wholly and completely. Although loyalty is one of Sam's biggest and deepest running attributes, it was his task dedication and his ability to remain completely closed off from the world and lack attachments that sent him to Ravenclaw. Many had accused him of being too cold for the house, for being better suited towards Slytherin. Those who knew him, however, knew that he could be the sweetest, kindest man that you would ever meet. Gentle was often used to describe Sam when his friends were asked to describe him.

His heart was always in the right place. He knew what he had to do, and he knew that sometimes you need to stay away from people and not get close, keep them at an arm's length away, to ensure that nothing jeopardizes what's going on. And sometimes, just sometimes, it helped to keep other people more innocent in case anything ever happened. Sam tended to put far too much thought into things, something that didn't fare well for him. He had a small handful of friends, and an even smaller amount of people whom he could call true friends. However, none of this made him immune to women. Many people had assumed he was a homosexual because he spent nearly six years at Hogwarts without chasing after someone. C'est la vie. No one had been enough to capture his attention. However, in his entire twenty three years of life, two people had been perfect enough in his eyes to capture his heart. One of them was staring into his eyes.

Sam knew what was going to happen before it actually happened. His arms were wrapped around Cass. They were in one of the most intimate settings a couple could be in ûnot that they were a couple or anything. The only way it could be more intimate was if neither of them was dressed. But, seeing how Cass was dressed for work and Sam was still in his pajamas, that wasn't the case. Yet, they were in each other's arms, staring into each other's eyes. Sam's heart was beating just a bit too fast and his breathing was a bit too hitched and his undergarments were becoming too uncomfortable for him to not know what was going to happen. The air was charged with sexual tension. Had it always been there, or had he just created it when he pulled Cass into bed with him?

He closed his eyes as he felt Cass move closer. It had been seven years since he was placed in this kind of position, but it was like riding a bicycle- once you learn, you never forget. It seemed to take forever, but when her lips finally touched his, every nerve ending in Sam's body electrified. It was as though his body had been woken up from a seven year sleep. Sam's hands moved up Cass's back until he was cupping her face, tangling his fingers in her hair. Oh Merlin, what is this, he thought, wondering if he was just desperate. No! a voice shouted back. He loved Cass, he knew he loved her. He had almost always loved her. She was kind and cared for others more than herself. She was a family woman, and just everything that Sam wanted in a woman.

Cass took his hands and moved them to where the buttons were on the front of her dress. His breath caught in his throat when he realized what she was asking him to do. Could he go through with it? Could he do this again? After Rosie had died, Sam swore he would never be intimate with a woman again. He couldn't risk losing Cass the way that he had lost Rosie. Another loss like that could very easily kill him. What would the wizarding world do without him? Hogsmeade needed him. He was the only ObGyn specialist at the hospital and it didn't look like there would be anyone else coming in to help him out any time soon. Not only that, but there was the emotional aspect to it, too. Was Cass sure she could give herself to him in such a way? She knew all about Rose and what had happened. She knew that Sam was no virgin and that he had given himself to someone else. What if she thought it was all a mistake after it was said and done? He couldn't just give her virginity back to her. What if she goes mental afterwards? What if she really wasn't ready for this? Sam understood the possible consequences for their potential forward actions. Did Cass really understand them?

If she's asking for it, she must, a side of him reasoned. He pulled back from the passionate kiss and looked at Cass, trying to read her facial expressions. He could do this. She wanted it. Cass was in the throes of passion, and if Sam let down his guard, he would realize that he was, too. "Do you trust me?" Sam moved his hands from her buttons to her breasts. He could tell even through the material of her dress that they were supple. He kissed Cass's lips once, then moved to kiss her jaw line, her neck and down to where the top of her dress was buttoned. He didn't want to undo the button just yet. This could give them passion and they could have a good time this way, while giving Cass time to make sure this was truly what she wanted.

Cass had no idea what it was that possessed her. This behavior was quite unlike her. Usually she was collected, she did not let her emotions get over her, because it could end up badly. Even when she gave herself away for the first time, it wasn't full of passion, more like.. curiosity. Now she felt bad with it and decided not to tell Sam, afraid that she was becoming too similar to her employer, who happened to be a courtesan. Normally a maid and her mistress would not bond so much, but this was no ordinary situation. Blanche was treating her staff like her family. She was not distant with them, especially not Cass.

Cassandra did not remember when miss Hawk and her became friends. For her it seemed the most natural thing in the world, though she learned by watching and listening to her mother that it was not. Most of the upper class ladies and gentlemen were not good and kind to those who worked for them. Servants were not treated as equals or friends. They were like a property. Nothing more and nothing less. Nobody really cared about how they present themselves, if they eat properly. Unless you worked in a Viehl household.

From the very beginning when Cass started to work there, she had realized it is not an ordinary household. First of all, the lady of the house was not a cousin, a sister or any other relative of the man. She was his lover and they did not hide it from her. Miss Hawk, who had to be around her age, was open from the start about her expectations. Cassie, having limited options, agreed to everything and never regretted it. Most of the time Mr Viehl was out of town and taking care of one person was much easier than caring for two. Soon she and her employer became friends and that continued through the years.

Miss Hawk, soon to be Mrs Viehl, was like family to her. She took her to dinners with Freya and her siblings and in return, Blanche shared her beautiful dresses with Cass and her family, making their lives less miserable. Of course, there was Sam too. Wonderful, loving Sam who helped out any way he could, so they lived in bearable conditions. If angels really existed, then Samuel Bowen had to be one of them. Never before had she met a man so selfless, so caring.

In her eyes he was a perfect man, but a thought of becoming his lover had never crossed her mind before. Until that moment. That passion.... It was a strange sensation she had never felt before. Just one his touch set the bottom part of her stomach on fire. She wanted him and couldn't even think about anything else. When he pulled back, she tried to pull in once again, greedy, unsatisfied. The fire burned more and more and she just didn't want it to stop anymore. It was too pleasant. Too good.

Truth be told, she didn't even think about the possible consequences. All that mattered was right there, right now. Nothing more and nothing less. "With my life." She responded to his question half-consciously, her mind elsewhere.

He was scared. Sam Bowen had never once claimed to be a man without fears, but he would be laughed at by everyone if they knew that he was scared of a woman. He wasn't actually scared of a woman, not Cass, never Cass. She was perfect and beautiful in his eyes, and had been for a very long time. It was something he had been loathe to admit though, for fear of falling. He did everything he did to ensure that he wouldn't ever end up in the situation where he could possibly get a woman pregnant again- not after what happened with his sweet Rosie. But, Sam was a man and there was only so much resistance he could hang on to, especially in the most desirable situations. It was a complete accident that Cass had ended up in his bed with him, but it wasn't a situation he was likely going to spoil.

What of your working relationship, a side of him questioned. What relationship? Sam knew the truth behind why he had invited Cass to live with him. Yes, it was out of the generosity of his heart, to help her out so that she didn't live in a shack in the Slums with only a handful of rooms and not enough places for everyone who lived there to sleep, but there had been other motives, as well. Sam had felt for Cass things he never wanted to feel again, things he thought he would never be able to feel again. He loved her, if he wanted to let himself admit it, and he wanted to spend time with her. She was just as kind and sweet as she had always been, and he loved being around her. She was the essence of light and laughter and love, and he wanted that to be a permanent aspect of his life.

When she breathed that she trusted him with her life, Sam was a goner. She hadn't even said that she loved him, but he felt the implication. You can't trust someone with your life, trust them with your precious virtue, without loving them. Rosie loved you and look what happened, a small voice in the back of his head told him. Sam had reburied his head in the crook between Cass's neck and chest, nuzzling lightly at her neck, but stopped at the thought. His eyes unintentionally narrowed as he defended his actions. We were children then, and stupid. I won't be stupid this time. As if to show that one little voice that he was going to subdue it, Sam growled lightly and nipped playfully at Cass's neck. All the necking and nuzzling and biting was getting Sam riled up in a way he never wanted to be riled up anymore.

Sam's hands had wandered away from Cass's breasts in favor of other parts of her body, but they managed to find their way back. He gave her breasts a light squeeze through her dress, before slipping his hand into the top of her dress, feeling the creaminess of her skin against the palm of his hand. The tips of his fingers brushed up against her nipples and he could feel himself harden. Sam prayed without much gusto for help, for the ability to keep Cass's virtue in tact, as he had wish he had done with Rosie. Women somehow had an effect on him; they made him lose sense of himself, do things that he wouldn't normally do if his head was on straight.

Without much warning, Sam pulled his hand from Cass's dress and flung himself non-ceremoniously on top of her. He was kneeling on the bed, straddled across Cass's hips, holding most of his weight on his hands, which were placed on the bed on either side of her head. His eyes darted across her's, trying to read her expression, her thoughts. Maybe she didn't really want this. Maybe she had wanted to test him, to see if he could withstand doing such things to her, with her. Maybe he had read the tone of her voice wrong. Could he do something so stupid as to think that she would want to have sex with him? "Cass," he whispered, before closing his eyes and lowering his lips to hers. There was a tightening in his belly, and he knew that he was a goner. There was no way he would last more than a few moments longer without going absolutely mad with desire.

Cass couldn't believe she was so lucky. First, Sam had invited her to live with him and now this... She felt like she finally had a place where she belonged, a person that she belonged to. No longer was she a lone soul, she found her half of the apple. Even if they were starting from the wrong way, Cass couldn't help herself, but feel happy. She had pushed away the feelings she had for her friend for far too long and this simple gesture, the fact they both gave up made her feel at peace. Her dreams were coming true. Finally.
