"Are you always this forward?" He asked teasingly since it would be a very short thread if he just ignored her entirely. — Tobin Cartwright in Take A Peek
Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
Della was so pleased to finally be getting together with her friends again. Their last monthly brunch date seemed so long ago, but she supposed a huge troll attack on the park made them miss their July date and that was probably why. It was appropriately her turn to host, which suited Della just fine, because she was the one with the news to share! She had of course, told the family, but had wanted to tell her friends in person. She felt incredibly late with it now- over a month later, between having Shay in the hospital and everything else, there just hadn't been enough time to plan anything. But today was definitely the right time! Of course Lucinda already knew, but the excitement was still there!
She fluttered about the house trying to get everything read, a table with breakfast, tea and a whole host of other things ready to go for her friends. The sun was shining for the moment and the weather was pleasant enough to have everything set up in the garden. Her mother had outdone herself as usual, though Dell had done a bulk of the cooking, with Elsie's help of course. Mrs. Haynes was finally getting back to herself after the troll attack, but Dell didn't want to overwhelm her with anything just yet.
Satisfied that everything was ready, Dell just had to wait for her friends to arrive. She glanced down at her amethyst ring, a smile curling the corner of her lips. She couldn't wait to tell them! And she didn't have to wait long, one by one they showed up and Dell tried to keep her hand hidden as best she could. Once they were seated around the table Della wondered how best to bring it up, but decided that the right opportunity would present itself, she was sure! "I've missed you ladies!" She sighed happily over her tea.

It had been far too long since Isabel had seen her friends, but of course it had been unavoidable; what with the season, their jobs (theirs, not hers) and with the trolls which had recently rampaged through Padmore Park and tried to abscond with poor Adella it was a wonder they had found the time to get together at all! But they had, much to Isabel's pleasure, and Adella was quite safe and that was certainly worth celebrating.
To that end she had brought scones that she had baked herself in the Gallivan's kitchen, though she had known that the Beauregard's would put on a marvellous spread. They always did and Isabel was quite eager to try some of the strawberry jam she suspected was homemade.
"It has been far too long," Isabel agreed softly. Good friends were few and far between, especially when you were as horribly shy as she was often capable of being but she had always felt comfortable being herself among their little group.
Dilly nodded eagerly in agreement with Della and Isabel. Though the hospital demanded much of her time, she cherished their brunches more than she cared to ever voice out loud. Diligence, for all her kindheartedness, was not one prone to sentimentality, but Della and Isabel especially were dear to her after spending seven years as roommates, and it was something of a relief to Dilly that they had all managed to remain friends while living their separate lives.
"Well, what with everything that's happened this summer, it could hardly be helped," Diligence pointed out gently with a smile. "I'm just happy we're all here now! And I'm sure you've all had more eventful summers than I -- a healer never sleeps, after all."
Anyone who takes the time to be kind is beautiful.
A quick post before I forget about it again! Sorry! <3
While she hadn’t had the luxury of sharing a dorm with the other three women in attendance, Viola couldn’t deny that they were perhaps her most dearest friends. Oh sure, she sometimes felt a little left out -- especially during her school years when they’d have these wonderful stories to tell, and she’d never be part of them because she resided in a different dorm -- but they never failed to keep her included (Adella, especially, was particularly adamant on doing so), and she was ever so glad that they’d continued to remain friends even after school because their little monthly brunches were something that she enjoyed and always looked forward to immensely. It was always pleasant to hear about the changes in everyone’s lives and celebrating their accomplishments, it always gave her hope that one day her own life would change as well -- though hopefully for the better.
“Oh, not I,” Viola deflected with a little laugh. “There’s hardly anything eventful about working in a bookshop day after day.” Not that she was complaining, of course; she loved her job, and wouldn’t think of giving it up, though given the choice between an occupation and marriage, there’s no doubt of what she’d choose. “But yes,” she continued with a amiable smile, “I quite agree that it's pleasant to see you all again. I trust that all of you have been well since our last meeting? None of you got caught in the troll debacle, I hope?” Her face took on a concerned expression as she looked around the table.
Della was glad her summer had not been too eventful, which is typically how she preferred it, especially after the last few summers. Hogsmeade seemed to be having a bout of terrible luck lately. At least they had things like this to keep themselves more on the positive side. "I can't even imagine, Dilly." Dell thought the studio was busy, she couldn't even imagine the hospital.
Oh a sigh, Dell shrugged a little when the trolls came back around. "I did, briefly." That was not the good part of the story though, but she felt a little awkward just coming out and saying it, so she waited to see if anybody else had something to share on the subject. Adella would be quite happy to never meet another troll for as long as she lived. Ever. Even if it had led to one of the most monumental moments of her life. Philip had saved her from the terrible beast and then proposed! He'd been planning on doing it at the picnic, then they'd gotten terribly interrupted and thankfully he went ahead anyway! Dell was over the moon about it, even if she couldn't help but to think about Shaymon as well...
That Adella had come so close to danger was enough to turn Isabel's stomach and she would never cease to be grateful that she had been spared. The very last thing she wanted was to make her friend relive the whole horrible experience (Adella had already bravely told her enough!) but she couldn't help but wonder how she had escaped—and who they had to thank. After all, Adella was a perfectly capable witch but she couldn't possibly have escaped a troll's grasp alone.
"I don't know what any of us would have done if we had lost you," Isabel murmured, her chest tightening at the very thought. "I'm so glad that you are safe."
