    We Didn't Start the Fire

Chastised, Marcie settled back in her seat and chewed her lip, prepared to remain silent for the rest of their scolding. Marcie was quite sure she would never have done anything as stupid as what Vablatsky and Woodcroft had done, even if she couldn't remember that day, so it obviously couldn't be her fault. She was used to being nattered at by Mama for things that hadn't been her fault, though, so the fifth year remained mostly unimpressed with the assembly.

It was kind of hard to be scared of Professor Keene, too.

Then a first year decided to speak his mind, entirely too cheerful for the situation at hand. Marcie fixed her gaze on the ceiling, biting harder on her lip to keep herself from laughing.

Tristan wasn't sure if he should laugh or groan at the young firstie. He'd learned over the last year that the young boy and his cohorts of cubs were quite a bunch of little hooligans , he did not envy the perfects that would have to deal with these boys as they came of shenanigan age. He was pretty sure a few of them would end up at the right hand wizards of peeves if the trickester had any say.

However, future minionship aside, Tristan had to admit a Troll was a pretty good validation for using magic. Though in the end he decided to keep the smile of his lips in case Professors Keens attention turn to him.

In Prue's opinion, a troll seemed like a perfectly valid reason to use magic in the corridors. She didn't think that someone would have lost fifty points over something that silly, though. Unfortunately, since no one knew why the points had been lost, anyone could be the guilty party.

The whole thing was shameful. Fifty points! The whole matter was made worse by the fact that no one knew who had lost the points or why; it could have been anyone, and for almost any reason! It seemed quite obvious that Professor Keene had decided that meant that they were all equally guilty, not that Cuppy blamed him. No, she was sitting demurely and taking the lecture, because although she doubted it she could have been the one to lose the points! Not that she could imagine how, but it could have happened.

Lavender sincerely hoped that the Travers twin didn't give Professor Keene an aneurysm; it would be significantly difficult to find a replacement, and then they would get a serious talking to. Probably from Headmaster Black, who would be much less pleasant about the whole thing. (And this already wasn't pleasant! Lav had a healthy fear of the headmaster.)

"If there's a troll and you cannot summon a professor in time, Mr. Travers," Barrett said, allowing sarcasm to leak into his tone. Merlin help him with these Gryffindors.

He couldn't see them, but the question could only have come from a Travers twin.

Prue couldn't help snorting, although she tried to muffle it. If there was a troll, of course there wouldn't be time to get a professor!

Pauline almost couldn't suppress the snicker she wanted to make at the first years question and the professor's answer. Despite the seriousness of the situation, it was rather comical.
