    Marry My Daughter Plz

    Mr. Dawlish,

[Insert two paragraphs of the appropriate pleasantries here]

I confess, though, that I do rather have a motive for writing. My brother Lucius has always spoken highly of you, and it is for that reason that you might be inclined to rather come to my rescue.

You may have heard that my daughter was recently cast aside by that dastardly Mr. Mathias Beaumont. I find myself growing more and more anxious by the hour that she might never find herself settled down, for it would prove not only disheartening for her, but to be a mark upon my own reputation, which you surely know I prize quite highly.

Miss Pendergast, to her credit, is a pretty, clever young lady beyond reproach. She served as Head Girl during her time at Hogwarts, and had quite the elegant debut! Of course, she comes equipped with a more than generous dowry, and her dutiful nature would make her a diligent wife to even a more seasoned husband.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Olivia Pendergast

    Dear Mrs. Pendergast,

I must confess I was quite surprised to receive such a letter from you, though yours I must confess, would not be the first of its nature I have had. Certainly it is one of the few that I have cared to take much notice of. How could I ignore such a letter from the distinguished Mrs. Pendergast?

I offer you my condolences in her misfortune, there must be something deeply wrong in the fellow to have abandoned such an eligible young lady so abruptly.

It is true I have been considering the idea of taking a second wife for some time now, but I have yet to find a young lady to properly capture my interest. I have two grown sons already, you see, and no financial troubles so it is hardly a matter of urgency. My preferred bride would be one of beauty and charm, agreeable in every aspect. A young lady for companionship. A

I regret to say that I have never once met Miss Pendergast, though I do not doubt she is everything you say she is. I do not suppose you know why Mr. Beaumont made such a rash and offensive decision? Not that I am suggesting it had anything to do with your darling girl, but if I am to properly consider your offer I feel I must ask.

    Yours Sincerely,
    H. Dawlish

    Mr. Dawlish,

Have you not yet made her acquaintance? Oh, I have been terribly remiss in that regard! I think that a dinner, at my own residence, is certainly in order if you would be inclined to honour us with your presence. Not immediately, for I do think Miss Pendergast needs some time to recover from such an offensive blow, but not too far in the future, either.

[Other pleasantries and smalltalk and whatnot.]

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Olivia Pendergast

    Dear Mrs. Pendergast,

I would indeed be honored, and I entirely understand the need to be sensitive to Miss Pendergast's feelings. I cannot begin to claim an understanding to the nature of the attachment, but rejection is still very much rejection regardless of one's emotional ties.

My schedule is often quite busy, but I am sure I can find an evening for dinner at your convenience once Miss Pendergast is in better spirits.

    Yours Sincerely,
    H. Dawlish
