Stranger things have come and gone
To see the world and take the throne

    Oh, this was weird.

Jon had moved all of his desk supplies from the ATC to his new office, which had until today belonged to Orpheus Parkinson. All of Orpheus Parkinson's belongings had moved down the hall to what had until today been Amariah Crabbe's office. The entire thing was more than a little disorienting, and Jon took a moment to spin in a circle at his desk chair, which was not nearly as spinny as his old one had been. Perhaps he should bring in some grease for the joints.

Because he was not actually sure what his new job duties entailed - he suspected that they involved a lot of meetings - Jon got up and poked his head out of the office door. Above him, there was now only Orpheus and, he guessed, the Minister. Weird.

He stepped very carefully out of his office, which now had a shiny Mr. Jonathan Webster - Assistant Head plaque outside of it, and sidled down the hallway to Orpheus'. A part of Jon was worried that if the secretary caught him, she would tell him that he had to do something.

He poked his head into Orpheus' office, which had the very weird shiny plaque of Mr. Orpheus Parkinson - Head on the door. "Morning," Jon said, raising his eyebrows in a gesture of this is so fucking weird.

Orpheus cast a grin over his shoulder at the sound of his new assistant head’s voice. “Still haven’t found the secret stash of whiskey Crabbe was rumoured to keep in here.” He reported, boxes of his belongings still unopened on the desk as he scouted out the room. “But look- I get a stamp for signing things!” He’d never considered signing things a chore, but he’d already superfluously stamped a few sheets of parchment for the fun of it.

Orpheus sat down in his chair, and it went spinning across the room. “How are you finding the office?” He asked as his knees collided with a filing cabinet. The room was much more spacious than he was used to- he could probably have whole desk chair races in here if he wanted!

Ooh, a stamp. This was probably going to be too powerful of a tool for them to have, and Jon looked at the stamp with admiration for its power. "I like it," he said, "I have a name plate and access to the secretary." The secretary probably already hated him, what with his track record as ATC head, but that wasn't a problem.

"I think the desk chair might need some oil though - so it spins in a satisfactory way," Jon said. Not spinning was absolutely not an option.

“She can be a bit grumpy but I do also make her deal with Reuben Crouch’s endless wish list of portkeys, so that might be something to do with it.” Orpheus advised, pulling out all the drawers of the filing cabinet to continue searching for the bottles of alcohol. Crabbe hadn’t done his job sober, had he? “And Magical Maintenance might be able to sort that- I heard Mrs Lestrange’s chair down in Mysteries could hover, but apparently that’s not true.” He’d been quite disappointed when he’d begun not-so-subtly angling for a chair upgrade.

“We should get an office pet.” He said suddenly, as a mouse ran out from behind the cabinet.

Jon was rather disappointed to find out that the chair didn't hover, having always been vaguely convinced that the Department of Mysteries was rather like a weird cult.

"Do you think they'd let us get a bear?" Jon asked. He rather missed Bear, who had been a good companion before he got too large to reasonably keep in a house.

Orpheus shrugged. “If we can find one. It’s only the minister who can really tell us no now.” He said, realising quite how terrifying the prospect was. “It can’t be more hassle than my dinosaur.” Okay, they’d have to feed it, but it also wouldn’t shred wallpaper, provided they trained it.

"Your dinosaur is a pain," Jon agreed, "Shame we can't get that in here, I think it would be great fun." He thought that a lot of terrible ideas were great fun.
