@'Sydney Podmore'/@'Elsie Beauregard'
Mr. Podmore,
I hope that you and yours have escaped from the calamities at the Wizarding World Market whole and unscathed. It seems cruel that our magical community finds itself subjected to disaster after disaster; it often feels as though half of my letters are of concern or of condolence!
My brother, Elliot, and myself both found ourselves trapped for a number of days. While we remain well, I assure you, this recent string of events has given me a great deal of perspective to my life. I hope, then, that you will excuse my candour, for given my recent brush with death, I am, for the moment, unwilling to mince my words.
I have enjoyed our continued acquaintance and, I feel, friendship for some time now, and value you greatly as a part of my life. However, Mr. Podmore, I feel that continuing that friendship would be false and doing us both a great disservice, for I fear that my affections towards you have developed past that realm of friendship and into a much more serious territory. I would be lying if I said I had not entertained notions in the past, but had always chalked them up to girlish fantasy. With this newfound insight into my own heart, I see that they were much more genuine indeed.
I write not to cause you discomfort, nor to put you on the spot; rather, my intention in such communication is simple honesty.
Yours,
Virginia Carmichael
