It took him this long because drafts 1-29 or so he got a paragraph in and then reread it and felt too pathetic and had to stop and throw it away and go feel miserable for a while before trying again.

My Angel,
As I expect you've gathered, things did not go as I'd planned.
I encountered my younger brother at the Ministry (a mere floor away from my goal; in light of everything that has happened since it seems impossible to think I was so close to reaching it), and he managed to derail me and to get my father involved. I'm sure I needn't tell you how adamantly opposed he was to my intentions, given the potential scandal it would cast on the family; he has always been particularly sensitive to such things.
I've been more or less on house arrest in this little cabin since. If my father ever trusted me, those days are long over... but things have quieted slightly since the beginning of the month and I can't bear the thought of going on here alone this way. Can I see you ?
