Marcus was nearing forty but he didn't feel it at all. His fashion house's growing success made him feel younger. Then there was Lady Penelope. Now that he no longer admired her from afar (to put it poetically), he felt as though he was a man of her age himself.

Not that he was that dramatically older, considering the era. Theirs was a nice, tasteful gap. Lady Penelope was old enough to be considered a woman but still young not to be in danger of spinster category. Marcus was 'young' while not being a boy.

Marcus was socializing with his guests as one might do at their birthday party. He was pleasantly surprised when one of them brought up the subject of his present. That they hoped Marcus liked it. "Oh, what may it be? I hope it's not a yacht. I didn't know how grand port fees would be when I bought it!"

    Haha, rich people humor.

She would give Marcus Lytton credit where he was due credit - the man knew how to throw a party and he knew how to decorate. She also was finding herself quite fond of his attire requirements when it meant she got to be socially acceptably bold. She imagined he had spent a fair amount of his time on his own outfit - it was fairly simple but the charm work was outstanding. As for the decorations, she imagined that it wasn't just his work, but likely his planing. As for herself, her own dress had taken quite some time - she hadn't made it herself, she didn't have the skill to, but she had spent quite a few days at the designer sketching out her ideas and talking with them. She would have used Marcus himself, but then the fun would have been taken out of it if the host already knew what she was wearing when it was a party like this and host like Marcus Lytton.

"I am can assure you it isn't a yacht, though as to what it actually is, you'll have to see when you open everything else. It isn't fun to spoil things, Mr. Lytton," Gabby chirped cheerfully, perfectly pleased to be out of the house. Her grandmother had picked the gift though Gabby had tossed in a little extra smaller thing that she had thought he would enjoy that she had made when she was at the designer - a pair of snow leopard fur gloves and a top hat whose ribbon matched the gloves, though the ribbon was only a mimicry in color rather than being fur itself for practicality reasons, though it did have a layer of the fur on the inside which she thought would have been nice for the upcoming winter.

Gabby will be wearing something similar in shape to this with the two layers, it has the bottom ruffles but not the top. The top half of the dress will be shaped like this, including the cap in a silver, though it will only reach the small of her back rather than the floor. The top layer will be made out of this material and color while the bottom layer will be a sliver of the same material. On the top half will be this flower overlay and it is in the same color as the bottom silver layer.

Thank Merlin Octavia had reminded him that the young woman before him was one of the Fontaines, otherwise, this exchange between them would have been very awkward. Marcus tried to remember most of the people in society, but it was easy to forget the ones he didn't interact with that much with, especially outside of his atelier.

This particular Miss Fontaine clearly didn't use his services often enough, Marcus had thought, upon seeing her dress. A hoop skirt and a capelet was a bold choice for sure, but Marcus couldn't say he was a fan. It reminded him of Little Red Riding Hood.

That being said, Marcus would make no comment about it, to the girl, at least. He and Octavia (and Penelope, if she wanted) would have a chat about the outfits later.

"Now I am intrigued!" Marcus commented with a smile. "Surely, you can give me a clue as to what it is?"

She wouldn't have take offense if he had known her name - honestly, if he had, she would have been a fair bit shocked, and a little star-struck. Frankly, the only reason she knew his name was because it was his party and because he was Marcus Lytton. Everyone knew who he was.

He likely would have been pleased to know that her dress choice was normally far more restrained. Mostly by her cousins and her Grandmother. It wasn't that she did not know how to dress her self to society standards, she just thought society standards were quite boring. But that did not mean she couldn't follow them normally. This would likely be enough to get all the weird quirks out of her system for a bit.

"Grandmother picked your gift honestly - as for that, I am not too certain what it is myself, though, I did get you something smaller myself. If you must have a clue, Mr. Lytton, it is something you could wear, though, beyond that, you will be left to your own devices."
