Augustus Davis,
My undoubtedly most determined and skilled student, you needn't apologise to me; I see no wrongdoing on your part. I am of utmost certainty that news of your sisters' elopement must have been quite a shock for you to have to bear witness to. I understand how emotionally difficult it must be as I have come to the assumption you have neither met ænor heard of her partner before? My friend, I wouldn't think to much upon it. She is a foolish girl from what I have heard. And my suffering needn't have anything to do with it; Lambert was a dear friend û but he was old and firewhiskey doesn't do kindly to the health of such small animals.
Nonetheless, how you appear to be feeling as a whole is troubling me. Why have you not spoken to me about this sooner Augustus? I may be a fairly aged wizard and committed to my duties but you are, not only a student but one of the dearest of friends. You've been a good person to me in my few years knowing you û and your training is almost complete, it is worth noting; one final year. That is surely one purpose. It concerns me that you feel alone in this crowded earth; have you sought out female companionship at all? A young man such as you may find positivity in such activities. Loneliness is physical as well as a state of mentality so I might suggest to you, my student, seeking a female. And I am not a doctor of the mind though I can try to provide some therapy if the need were to arise. I shall cut down on your training in the coming weeks temporarily in order to give you some time to yourself; it is a taxing course and I feel it may be one of the reasons for your emotional state.
And in the instance of Mr Bates, he is not wrong with his opinions; I disagree with his beliefs but that isn't to say his opinions are incorrect. I merely believe the method in which he opted to accost that woman was undignified and unprofessional; if he needed to, then I feel he should have done it more privately and outside of Ministry attire. The Ministry stands for all of wizardkind, not just the pureblooded. However, as I have already written, there is no wrongdoing û I feel û in what he said. He has the right to an opinion.
But be assured, Augustus, I am not only your mentor û I am your friend. If you need to write me or visit me outside of work, do not hesitate in doing so.
Be Well,
Gregory Fletcher
