    Woes Of The Rich

    L: / A:

I've lost my lover. Discretion became an issue. I suppose six months is rather long for this sort of thing... Perhaps we were lucky to have as long as we did.

Chastity is fine. The error in discretion was on the lady's part, not mine. I must admit I did not anticipate... I mean, I feel... Empty. I didn't expect to fall in lo become this involved.

August's first attempt was written in a flurry of quill-jabs and exaggerated sounds of frustration.

    Thom,

Oh I am just so sorry that you lost your mistress. How does your wife feel about this?
    August

He stared at the first attempt for five seconds before setting it on fire.

The second attempt was written as August smoked the pipe Thom had gotten him and stared out his office window.

    Thom,

The only woman I've ever loved was turned into a vampire and then left Hogsmeade because my sister hired people to kill her. I'm never going to see her again and I miss her desperately because every time something happens, I start to think of how I'm going to phrase it when I tell her the story before remembering that she'll never write me back.

And the vampirism? Probably my fault.

But, you know, sorry for your lover. How's the wife?

    August

It took him half a minute of re-reading to decide that was too passive aggressive. It was tossed in the bin rather than burned, though.

The third attempt was written as August carefully pondered his word choice.

    Thom,

I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like you really cared about her.

You did the right thing for the woman, though.

As always, let me know if you need anything.

    August

    The third attempt he sent.

    Thom,

Man you're killing me. You can't seriously tell me you got over-involved with your lover? Really? Really. I'm disappointed. You were screwing the headmaster's wife, what did you expect to happen? What are you going to tell me next you've been tupping the Minister's wife?

This requires a fix and you know how my fixes work.

Send my best to lovely Miss Chastity as I'm sure she will hate me after the night we are going to have.

    Best,

    Leon

Have you seen the Minister's wife? Then you already know how ridiculous that is. What he sees in that little slyph of a girl I'll never know.

Mrs. Chastity will be receiving no such greetings. She's not going to hate me or you for anything; I've been careful and I've not gotten over-involved, and now I've tied things up and so she won't ever know.

    I'm fine.

    A:

Yes, I suppose I did. Quite a lot. But you're right, it's best for all involved parties. Goodness knows it would hardly phase me if things became known, but Chastity might be quite heartbroken, poor innocent thing.

    Anyway. I'm fine.

August supposed that his own loss had made him more impatient.

    Thom,

    ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT N

He had not even finished when he knew he wasn't mailing that and scrapped it.

    Thom,

That's good, although fine is relative. Seriously, let me know if you need anything. And tell your wife I say hello or something equally polite.

    Thom,

Miss, Mrs. you know these things are trivial, really. Well, we will certainly be up to shenanigans that she does not approve of because we're going to rid you of this love hangover you've found yourself in with a good old fashioned guys night. We can do it at my house, booze, cigars, women, the whole shebang.

    Resistance is futile.

    Best,

    Leon
