"Are you always this forward?" He asked teasingly since it would be a very short thread if he just ignored her entirely. — Tobin Cartwright in Take A Peek
Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
“I’m so glad that we can drop classes after our OWLs.” Cecily commented. She and Victoria had been working on this potions assignment for about twenty minutes now and while her friend was being very helpful, Cecily couldn’t help but feel like she was slowing both of them down. Even with Marissa’s tutoring, Cecily would never be entirely good at potions. They were just not her thing. During her first year, when things were easier, she did decently at least in theory, but now her seemingly lack of skill at actually brewing potions had made her dislike the theory of it as well.
Charms were really so, so much better. Even with a professor as harsh and strict as Argyle.
The subject of their assignment did not help either. Cheese-based potions. All she could think of, was cooking and it didn’t help that given her upbringing Cecily could only scramble eggs. Perhaps that was the reason she was so bad at potions in the first place. But that wouldn’t explain why Marissa was good at them. They had the same upbringing, after all.
Victoria nodded, though for a different reason. She would be continuing her studies in Potions, and perhaps even Alchemy if her OWLs were high enough. Charms on the other hand was a hit or miss. She was determined to do well in the class, however if she didn't make the minimum requirements - and she had serious doubts - she wouldn't be continuing Charms in her Sixth year. That was a long way off yet however, they were just wrapping up their Third year, they still had to fight through their Fourth and Fifth. Fifth year was the one Victoria was worried about; how much was she going to mess up on her OWLs?
"Yes, any idea of what you might take in your Sixth year?" Victoria asked, mildly curious. Her right hand turned the thick parchment page of her Potions Textbook, glaring at the assignment page. Strangely enough she was rather worried about this potion too.
"I might have a solution for the melting problem." The young Ravenclaw stated as an idea materialized in her head. She pointed at the directions scrawled in the ancient Text before her. "Whenever I try to make this potion for class I find my cheese wont melt fast enough and the mixture becomes more of a sludge, where it says here it should be more of a thin molten mixture." Victoria paused to make sure her friend was with her.
Cecily chewed on her bottom lip at her friend’s question. “Charms, surely…” She started. “Transfiguration too, I suppose. Herbology too, I like Herbology. Ancient Studies and History too…” Merlin knew what she’d be like in two years. Maybe by then, she’d be great at Potions and she wouldn’t be able to even consider the possibility of not taking that class.
She was still contemplating her class options when Victoria started talking about the problem of the cheese. She had noticed the problem with the cheese too, but he had assumed that it happened simply because she was just not good enough at Potions. It wouldn’t be the first problem that occurred to her while brewing.
“Mm.” Cecily made thoughtfully. “Perhaps the cheese should be heated separately before it is added to the mixture?”
“Transfiguration too, I suppose. Herbology too, I like Herbology. Ancient Studies and History too…” Victoria's companion mused, chewing on her bottom lip, Victoria grew excited; That's lovely! I intend to take Transfiguration and herbology as well. I'd take charms... but I'm rather clumsy with wand work. The young Ravenclaw admitted, a sigh escaping her lungs.
Vicky posed the problem, and paused to let her friend give it a go; "Mm," Cecily began, "Perhaps the cheese should be heated separately before it is added to the mixture?” A glint could be seen in Victoria's emerald hues as she scribbled down the first idea. Yes! That will probably do the trick, but if it doesn't we should try cutting our lumps of cheese into smaller pieces so the melting time becomes shortened. She paused and blew a strand of hair from her face; and if neither of them work, well... Victoria figured the heating solution would work, but she liked to have back up plans just in case.
Vicky couldn't help but wrinkle her nose; I hope we don't have to drink this... I like cheese just fine, but melted cheese always makes my stomach turn.
Cee smiled, glad that her suggestion had been somewhat useful. Potions were not her strongest suit, but she still hoped to think that she was decent enough in theory. Just because she wasn’t good at brewing them didn’t mean that she couldn’t know about them.
“I suppose it’ll taste differently with all the other ingredients,” Cee commented. She generally didn’t like cheese, so she understood Victoria. She’d rather not drink something with a cheesy flavour.
“Then again, most potions don’t taste particularly well. Ironically, I’ve read that poisons tend to taste better.”
