Backdated to before Cleo left for Hogwarts. We'll not bother with a posting order.

Declan had taken his day off to collect his sisters and take them out for one last family hurrah before Cleo was to set off for Hogwarts. He would be lying if he said that he wasn't nervous for her. He hoped she'd at least make it to her fifth year so that she could get a proper job. Not that there was anything wrong with working for the Etheriums, he just didn't know that that was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. He had a feeling that she had other aspirations. He'd do his best to help her reach them, but even he could only do so much.

He'd persuaded the cook to pack them a little picnic basket with little sandwiches and a handful of biscuits. He carried it easily as he lead them into a nice shady spot inside Padmore Park. It wasn't quite time for lunch yet and he had other activities in mind. He'd had his sisters help carry a fishing rod, whilst another had a small container of earthworms that he'd collected after the last rain.

"Who wants to try first?" He grinned at them and scooped up a worm to squish onto the hook.

Cleo was set for Hogwarts and Joella could not help but be a teensy bit jealous. At least she was another year older which meant another year closer to when it would be her turn. She had shown signs of magic and everything years back!

And now they were going off with Declan which was just fine with her. When they arrived at their destination, she eyed the worm before stepping forward. She was dubious of her chances but she could still try!

Tabitha bounced on her feet, curiously watching the goings-on as her sister stepped forward to give the fishing rod a try. “Careful, Joella, it’s awfully long,” she chirped, recalling how she nearly tripped over the thing when she tried to lift it up. As to Cleo’s departure, she preferred not to think about it. There’ll be one less sister she’d be able to tag along after, but that was quite all right. There’d be other things for her to worry about then, too.
Turning toward her brother, she gave him an equally curious look. Of course Declan knew what they’d be up to, but she didn’t know whether the place had any good fishing spots. “You’re sure we’re going to catch anything over here?” She asked, wondering how long it was going to take. “Is it going to be the fish that’s safe to eat?” She decided against asking whether said fish could be caught with her hands, since that would destroy all purpose of fishing rod in the first place, but it was on tip of her tongue. She'd just have to wait to get these answers first.

Cleo resisted the urge to roll her eyes at all of Tabbi's questions, but a grin crept onto her face all the same. She would be lying if she said she wasn't nervous about leaving her siblings behind, but she wouldn't dare show it. Cleo needed Hogwarts as much as she needed air to breathe -- she would not be stuck as a housemaid all her life, and if it took going out on her own to do it, then so be it!

"Of course there is," she said, skipping over to the edge of the lake to watch Joella try her hand with the fishing rod. "Best be careful, though," she added with a devious grin, "I hear there are mers in this lake -- mean ones!"

Declan was used to the flurry of questions. He did live with a half dozen women, after all. He did what he always did - dealt with the more impertinent questions first. As he handed the fishing pole to Joella, he gave Cleo a look, "The mers don't come out this way. The waters too shallow. Nothin' ta worry about, Tabi." His attention returned to the task at hand as he guided the fishing rod into a graceful swing, releasing the string at the height of it. The earthworm soared over the water and landed with an anti-climactic plop into the lake.

"Just hold on to it now, an' if you feel a tug lemme know and we can pull it in. That means ya got a fish on the end." He glanced at Tabi and said pointedly, "A fish that's safe to eat." He didn't know how this girl got things in her head. Odd things. What fish wasn't safe to eat? Where did she learn these things? He ought to pay more attention to where she spent her free time...

So sorry for the wait! @'Hannah Echelon' @'Clarissa Cosgrove' @'Tabitha Wood'

Mers?! They were gonna be pulled into the lake, drowned and then they would die. She wasn't altogether too assured by Declan's words but she wasn't a coward. Joella watched as the string with the worm plopped into the lake. Aaand ... what now?

This was kind of boring, wasn't it? Joella did as instructed though since a fish meal sounded good to her right about now. "What if all the fish are gone?" She asked. Because, well, what if that was why nothing was happening?
