There was no point to this. Going to see Gabe during one of her days off was not only pointless, but it was incredibly stupid. They weren't getting along, he would only question her, they would fight and then she would leave and go find comfort in Cailean's arms. He loved her after all, no matter what anyone else said. And she loved him, even with her father threatening engagement every other second. But Connie had an impulse. An impulse to go visit her brother and hope he'd take her in for the day. At the end of the day he was her brother and she needed him. Connie would always need Gabe.

Heading towards the familiarity of Bartonburg, Connie watched as other students scurried towards their homes. They were going home to a potentially welcoming family, there was no telling how Gabe would react to her presence. He might not even allow her in, although he was classier than that and would not cast his sister away. She hoped.

"Gabe!" She yelled out, unlocking and walking up the stairs of his home. "Gabe, are you here?"

Gabe actually was in his house for once. Usually he liked to spend his free time with his boys, or asleep (and then he might as well have not been home, as Gabe slept like a rock when he was exhausted) , or trying to hang around Maddie without being near her step-father, who terrified him.

Today though, he had completely forgotten what day of the week it was and ended up not having any plans for himself. He had tried sleeping but found himself completely wired, and then he had drank enough coffee to prevent any further attempts at napping.

Eventually Gabe had found a ball that bounced and was throwing it so it rebounded off of his living room wall. Such a fun, constructive, afternoon activity! He was about to start testing out new curses and countercurses on his wall when he was summoned by a voice on the stairs. He very nearly jumped - constant vigilance was being ingrained into his head - but placed the voice. "I'm here," he called to his sister. He supposed he should have said something sarcastic, but he was far too bored to kick her out already, and he had forgotten in the swirl of caffeine how her sneaking about had made him get up four hours early.

A sigh of relief escaped her throat as she trudged up the apartment's stairs. Connie was looking forward to hopefully having a civil conversation with Gabe for the first time in almost a month. She needed to. She needed his calming nature to bring her back down to Earth. He grounded her more than Jesse did.

"Hey," she spoke cheerfully as she came upon him. Inwardly she vowed to keep the conversation light and cheerful, even with her awful mood this past week. "I've missed you big brother." Mister Summerby could go die in a ditch for all she cared. The sooner he disappeared from her life the sooner she'd be happy.

Gabe cracked a smile at her. "I've missed you too." He wouldn't apologize for flipping out, but he could not yell at her this time. Besides, it was all in the past (or at least he hoped it was.) The boredom had softened his ability to hold a grudge at present anyways.

Gabe stood. "Come on into the kitchen," he said, walking into the room and leaning on the counter. "Want anything to drink? How have things been?" He had a disproportionate amount of firewhiskey in his house for someone who didn't drink alone, but he also had water, and he didn't care what Constance asked him for so long as she didn't get completely smashed on him. The conversation was more important, of course; Gabe didn't like being so out of the loop.

Connie knew where Gabe kept his liquor having lived with him so often since he moved out and as she walked into the kitchen she grinned at her brother and went straight for the cabinet. Once they started talking, there was no sure way to know if she was going to be able to get the drink later on or not. "I'll get it no worries." She said happily.

After getting two glasses and a near full bottle of firewhiskey, Connie settled herself opposite him and went about pouring them both a glass. Maybe if her father disowned her she could become a bar tender, that'd be fun. "So, anything new with you?" Last time they spoke, he was telling her about this girl he was practically in love with. If only she were allowed to be in love too.
