I apologize for disturbing you with this letter, it's just that this thing happened and it really distressed me!
You've probably read those articles in which Miss Ophelia Dippet accuses Miss Hannah Echelon of turning her into a dog. Those articles are terribly distressing in themselves, as they are horrible slander towards my dear friend! Anyway, if only they were the only reason I am upset!
I went to The Lady Morgana today and I admit to making a rather loud comment about how the articles are slander and that Miss Echelon would never do that to Miss Dippet. Miss Rosalind Pendergast was sitting nearby and she made this comment about how, given Miss Echelon's father's history, she is capable of anything. That comment really upset me, so I asked her how she would feel if people judged her wrongly based on what her sister (the disowned one) has done. I admit of having stepped out of line with that comment of mine, but just as the Pendergasts wish to cut all ties with that offending family member, Miss Echelon surely does not wish to be related to a person like her father! I then asked her if she has such a terrible opinion of me based on what my family has done - if she thinks me capable of bigamy or of being slightly mentally unstable. And then she proceeded to tell me that I am unstable if I think she has more sisters than she "actually" does and that "Blood will always tell". By this point, I was so very upset that I called her a bully and when she told me that she was telling the truth I removed myself from the situation.
Tell me, Granny, am I wrong to be upset? I was merely trying to stand up for a friend! I never expected that Miss Pendergast would be so mean!
