Spryly's first spell was a knockback jinx. The fact his opponent was a girl didn't bother him in the slightest.

Cecily was looking forward to this duel, she had done well against this boy the last time she had competed against him, and the little half veela was hopful of similar success this time. As he was given the g ahead to cast she attempted a deflecting charm, hoping to send the spell wide of it's mark

Hamish could not help but chuckle as the young lad was sent sprawling backwards by his own spell—clearly the boy had underestimated his feminine counterpart! “The first round to Miss Carmichael,” the wizard announced, “who shall also begin the next.”

Cecily smiled in her most gracious fashion and curtsied to the boy, and the Ancient Studies professor. Cecily prepared to cast her next spell, and with a wave of her wand she attempted to cast a full body bind.

Except it did bother him because it was that girl. He tried his best to defend himself with a disarming charm, hoping he might be able to stop her casting if he was fast enough.

The young boy seemed to have poor luck in the duel after his body seized and fell humorously backwards. The wizard chuckled and waved off the effects of the spell so the Gryffindor may return to an upright position. "Miss Carmichael takes the round and duel, congratulations and best of luck in the next round."
