The Final Countdown

My dear Hortensia,

I hope this letter finds you well, and not buried too deeply under preparations for the season! I can't believe there's only a month left until my debut. It seems only a few days ago we were coming down the staircase at Hogwarts together, doesn't it? I suppose it might feel different for you, since you've already been out. 

I have to say, I'm not sure I find the idea of having the spotlight on me all evening to be an appealing one. Mrs. Pendergast has done her best to prepare us, of course, but all I can think of is what might go wrong! What if I trip, or step on some gentleman's feet while dancing, or worse, have no dances at all -- which I know is ridiculous, but still. Papa, of course, tells me that of course everything will fine, but he's never had to come out, now has he?

In any case, the invitations should have went out a couple of days ago. I do hope you've received yours, and that I can expect to see at least one friendly face in the crowd!

Dearest Theodosia,

Time moves quite fast, doesn't it? Although I do have to admit to the autumn and winter months going rather slowly, after the activeness of the Season had kept me largely occupied, but oh, I can't wait until you can join me! With you and my sister coming out this year, the Season is sure to be a bit less lonely, and for that, I am grateful.

Oh dear, I certainly do not envy you that. That was one of the advantages of the Hogwarts Coming Out, I feel like; not all of the attention was on me, but nevertheless, I must agree with your Papa - everything will be just fine. I hear that Mrs. Pendergast's school is a fine one, but even without the extra instruction, I think you'll do wonderfully. Besides, any gentleman who does not wish to dance with you at your own ball does not deserve a place on your dance card or the pleasure of your company, anyway.

I have received mine, and you shall most certainly see me there. I wouldn't miss for the world! I hope the preparations have been going well? Your still being at school hasn't been a detriment to planning, I hope?
