My Dearest Sister,

Forgive me for corresponding with you through letter; I know it's terribly impolite to do so while we're living under the same roof. I've found myself drowning in stress over the past few weeks, and letters are about the only outlet for expressing my emotions that one would deem proper for a lady of my status. My stress is related to the rest of my exams and especially the coming season. I have no doubt that you'll be ready to debut by the time of the Coming Out Ball; I, however, have only had six and a half years of preparation!

How could mother expect me to find a husband when I can barely manage myself as is? It's all far too frustrating for me to handle. I wish to ask her about finishing school, but I fear that such an inquiry would offend her. I do not wish her to think my preparation has been useless; I've learned much since reuniting with our family. My only concern is that I will not be able to find a husband! What should I do, Ari?

My dear Matilda,

Never say sorry for coming to me, I know it is hard that we cannot always speak to each other with the confidence that we would like because we are not in the same house.  

Do not be upset my deat Tilda.  You are beautiful, (if I do say so myself) my dear sister, and intelligent and accomplished.  If a man cannot see beyond what was done to you when you were but a babe then he does not deserve you!  You should know that I will support your decision to marry whomever you choose! If it is a muggle, a Lord, or a navvy.  I will not loose you again my dear sister, regardless of what Papa and Mama say about family and blood.  

To another end, we are only 18, we have plenty of time before we need to consider marriage something to fear.  We are not even out yet, never mind spinsters! Besides, perhaps we will be happiest as spinsters together, knitting hats and scarves for abandoned owls.  

If you wish, we could ask to become 'Roses' at the Prendergast school, it is very fashionable, and Mrs. Predergast knows all of the best gentlemen, so I am sure Mama and Papa would not be opposed if we decided to go there after we finished schooling?

Ari,

It does worry me when I hear you speak in such ways. I could only imagine what mother and father would think if they heard that you would support my marriage to a muggle! You must be careful how you speak when we return home for the season; the last thing I want is you falling out of favor with our parents. I do, however, appreciate your unwavering support. I am truly blessed to have you standing by my side.

It pains me to hear that the idea of spinsterhood is on your mind. As happy as I would be to spend a lifetime with you, I'd rather do so surrounded by our children and grandchildren!

I would see no reason for you to attend Mrs. Pendergast's School. For while it might be fashionable, attending finishing school means that you will debut at an older age than other debutantes. It wouldn't be the first time a 'finished' debutante found herself struggling to find a husband due to being surrounded by younger, and therefore more eligible, debutantes! You, of all people, are most definitely prepared to debut in society. Me? Perhaps not.
