Dear Madam Lestrange,
I am writing to you somewhat presumptuously in the hope of seeking your opinion and advice regarding potential employment in your department.
I graduated from Hogwarts a couple months ago and recently received my NEWT results of which I have attached a copy of on a separate piece of parchment. Besides achieving highly on my examinations, I was made Head Girl in my final year, Prefect in the years preceding, I was Head of the Dueling club in my seventh year, and a Pan-Magical Games champion in my fifth year. I believe I fit the Ravenclaw ideal quite well, perhaps too well for this is where my difficulty lies.
My father is the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts and a very kind and tolerant man. While I don't doubt he would support my decision to take up an occupation within the Ministry or otherwise, I feel as though he would prefer for me to follow in my sister's footsteps and embrace society, and all the feminine pursuits that follow. I wish to please my father and so I am trying very hard to succeed in society as I have in my studies, but I make a poor debutante all the same and have so far failed in my effort to learn to like high society life. For the sake of my family I should like to at least see the season out, and should I remain unattached as is likely, I would like very much to work.
I interned at Hogsmeade Hospital last summer and at the end of my internship concluded that healing was not for me. I wish to work somewhere where I can constantly learn new things beyond an internship and where I might even encounter the peculiar and unknown. Obviously I am making a great assumption about what your department really does and if I am far off the mark, I hope you might set me right, otherwise I would like to know if it is at all possible to potentially seek employment there after the new year?
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter, it is greatly appreciated.
Yours faithfully,
Miss Petra Sleptova
