take this pink ribbon off my eyes. im exposed and its no big surprise. don't you think i know exactly where i stand? this world is forcing me to hold your hand. cause im just a girl, little ol' me. dont let me out of your sight. im just a girl all pretty and petite. so dont let me have any rights. oh ive had it up to here. the moment that i step outside, so many reasons for me to run and hide. i cant to the little things i hold so dear. cause its all those little things that i fear.←

Aoife rolled her eyes when he said he hoped for an impromptu proposal. It was a ridiculous thing to joke about, she knew that, but she had to make light of the situation somehow or she'd go insane. She didn't know what to feel at that moment in time, and it was driving her absolutely crazy. She didn't know whether to say yes or no to Regan, and it was getting a bit ridiculous after nearly two weeks of keeping him waiting. She groaned at the thought. It was infuriating, it really was, and she had to wonder why he'd gone and ruined the perfectly good arrangement the two had.

But she knew that it wasn't his fault. He couldn't help that he fell in love with her somewhere along the line, and it wasn't his fault that he thought perhaps she felt the same. She didn't know what she felt, on one hand it didn't seem such a stretch but on the other it was positively frightening to think that she was in love with anyone at all. She just didn't know at all what she felt, and that was what was making the situation all the more infuriating. It would be one thing if she could say for certain that she did or didn't love him, but she couldn't and it made it difficult to come to a decision.

When Shay said what's love got to do with it, she gaped. She listened to him as he said it sounded like a good arrangement and she could hardly believe what she was hearing. "But marriage shouldn't be an arrangement, Shay." Her words were sounding somewhat harsh, borderline disgusted that he had said such a thing. Marriage was supposed to be about love, trust, faithàall things she felt for Regan, but perhaps just the wrong type. She didn't know. "It would be unfair to Regan and me both if we married without me knowing how I feel. He's in love with me, Shay, and I don't know how I feel about him in that regard." She twirled an errant hair around her finger.

"Marriage is a big deal, I don't want to enter it if I'm not in loveàand while I love Regan, I trust him and I believe in him fully, I don't know that it's the right kind of love, trust and faith." She sighed. "You're being no help, Shay. But I didn't expect help. This is something I have to do on my own." She practically slammed her palm on the table.

"Oh dear, conversation sure has taken a turn for the worse. Let's talk about something else." Her tone was almost pleading and she looked at him, eyes portraying that she no longer wished to talk about the situation. She took a big gulp of her butterbeer, finding it a shame that there wasn't more alcohol in it and putting her now empty glass down. She waited for his response, tapping her fingers on the table.

He held up his hands in playful defence as she gave him a reprimend for his words, arguing the point he had made. He still stuck by his words, and thought that maybe Aoife didn't understand him, or was simply not looking at the bigger picture. She was -- obviously -- too involved in it all to take a step back and look at the circumstances from a different position. He didn't blame her. It was a lot to spring on a person, even if he thought it might be the better thing for them both.

It wasn't that Shay didn't believe in love. But he knew that marriage was a lot of work -- it seemed it -- and why not enter into such a union with someone who you actually liked to spend time with. As it was, with arranged marriages -- he didn't see this as a case of arranged marriage at all, despite her words to him -- one could sometimes end up with someone they had never before shared more than a scant few words with. And then one was expected to spend their entire lives boarded up with that person, sharing the same bed, eating at the same table? He couldn't imagine.

So, in Aoife and Regan's case, he saw it as a perfect opportunity. Sex and friendship. Love, he thought, would could grow out of that, couldn't it? Because what was love but strong friendship with a handful of desire tossed in?

At least, that's how he saw it. Though Shay didn't think he'd ever been in love...

"Oh dear, conversation sure has taken a turn for the worse. Let's talk about something else."

He chuckled, sipping his beer. He set the mug down and studied her for a moment, letting a lengthy silence fill the space between him before he asked, teasingly, "...Don't you have more sudden news to spring on me?" Her chuckled and continued, the teasing voice slipping. "I'm actually moving back to Hogsmeade, no more London office. I'll be seeing more of you and Regan."

Though... if she said no to Regan and Regan didn't want to be friends with Aoife anymore, well, he would need to stay with his best friend, which meant he would need to cut Aoife out of his life. Or at least a little bit. Which was too bad. If she did decide not to marry Regan, Shay would have liked to take her out, but loyalty to his best mate pretty much prevented that from happening.

He'd definitely missed out. But clearly it was a good thing he'd never made a move before. Regan wouldn't have liked it.

"More," he waved his hand to indicate The Three Broomsticks, "of this. Drinking. Here." He chuckled. "Like old times."

She laughed along when he teased her about having more sudden news. It was rather humorous, she supposed, when you weren't a part of the situation. But she was, therefore it was not too humorous to her, but she didn't mind that he found it such. Perhaps he was just trying to lighten the mood, and Merlin knew it needed lightening. When he said he was moving back to Hogsmeade, she gave a wide smile. "Now we'll get to see one another more often!" She beamed. Shay was a good friend, and she quite enjoyed his company. So to hear he would be returning to Hogsmeade was a great thing indeed.

She only hoped that after whatever happened between Regan and herself that they'd remain friends. She knew that Shay was close to Regan, and if things should turn out messy û she certainly hoped they didn't û then she knew that she stood little chance in remaining his friend. It was a thought that hurt. She could potentially lose two of her closest friends in this situation, and she wasn't taking kindly to that thought at all. The thought of losing Regan alone was gut wrenching. He was her everything it seemed, even if she didn't know if she loved him in that way or not. But the thought of losing Regan and Shayàwell that was a thought she didn't want to linger on overlong.

She laughed when he went on to say there'd also be more drinking. "Of all the pros of living in Hogsmeade, of course you focus on the drinking." She rolled her eyes. She was just teasing him of course, but it was rather humorous. Though small, Hogsmeade was a nice village. A good place to live, and she had to admit she quite enjoyed her life here. It wasn't too big, and on the same note it wasn't too small. It was the perfect size it seemed, and she quite enjoyed her life here indeed.

"So," she looked down at her empty glass and called the barmaid over to get more. With her glass newly refilled she took a sip and looked at him, "Any ladies in your life dear Shay?" her brow quirked. "Merlin knows there must be someone in these past few years." She was being nosy, but she didn't care. She liked to tease her friends about their love lives. It was something she found rather amusing. Taking a long sip of her butterbeer she continued to look at him, waiting for an answer.

"Of all the pros of living in Hogsmeade, of course you focus on the drinking."

He shrugged, chuckling. "Oh, of course." He had turned into a bit of a drinker in London. Of course, there wasn't much else to do otherwise, when one was off duty. It had been difficult to say now when all of his roommates were going out on the town, he never wanted to stay in by himself, even if he was miserable. It wasn't as if he had ever been a saint, either. Shay had been drinking from an early age, having discovered it with some of his mates on an unpermitted side stop at the Hog's Head in fifth year. Aside from the glass of wine with dinners of course, which were always considered okay, even if those glasses turned from one to many with some of the adults (not so much including the Beauregard's, who were pretty responsible in that way).

He knew the topic of æladies' would come up soon. It was something all the girls asked him at one point or another. He figured it was because a lot of them didn't know how to relate to men so linked them to the one thing they did seem to know û other girls. But Aoife, he thought, was probably doing it to get away from the topic of her and Regan, and she really didn't seem to want to go back to talking about that so he was going to oblige her.

"In London?" He chuckled, sounding absolutely incredulous. "What, in between trying not to have my limbs blown off and rooming with several men?" He raised an eyebrow in her direction, chuckling. "No women, no. Though, now that I'm back," he shrugged, "you never know. All of the pretty ladies I know are coming off the market."

Oh damn, he had made another reference to her and Regan. He continued, acting like he hadn't. "I'm not looking for anything like that." What was he looking for, exactly? He wasn't sure.

"Do you know anyone?" It was more a playful question than anything, but he was curious to see what kind of people she could come up with for him. It would say a lot about how she saw him. He rested his chin in his palm, playfully waiting for her answer.

She ignored his little hint to Regan, deciding that she no longer wanted to be sad over thoughts of him. She would decide what to do, but for now she was catching up with an old friend. She didn't want to sully their good time together just because she couldn't handle the situation with Regan. She would find out what to do, and for now she would just ignore the situation and have fun catching up with an old buddy. Yes, that is exactly what she would do.

She laughed when he asked if she knew anyone. "The only girls I talk to are off limits. One is fourteen and the other is taken, happily so. Sorry buddy, I'm the only girl I know other than those two." She winked his way with a laugh. She wasn't really going to suggest he court her. It was just the nature of their friendship to flirt and tease, or so she saw it anyways. "So unless you intend on courting me," She laughed at the thought, "then no, I don't know anyone." She sipped her butterbeer that was quickly cooling down.

She couldn't help the thoughts of Regan from coming back into her mind. The talk of courting and with a good friend made her think of him all over again and she donned a grimace of sorts on her pretty lips. It wasn't that the thought of courting Regan was disgustingàit was just odd. She had never thought he'd want to be with her of all people, and it was an odd thing when she found out that he did. She also never thought Regan the sort to be romantic in any form, but there she was proven wrong again.

"I'm sorry, Shay, but I have to go." It was abrupt, yes, but the thoughts of Regan were putting a real damper on her fun mood and she knew she needed to go home and mull over her options. She needed to give him an answer; he deserved an answer so that he could move on from this, whether she says yes or no. She grabbed her little bag and gave a wave. "We'll see one another soon! I promise!" She said as she turned to walk towards the door. She would have an answer for Regan soon, she swore it.
