Appearance:

• Darla has never been a particularly vain or flamboyant young woman, always preferring simplicity to extravagance, but she always ensures that she appears modest without being deemed unfashionable. Her thick, dark-brown curls are often arranged in a simple, but elegant hairdo that she believes suits her appearance well -- however, in preparation for society functions or evening occasions, her hair is styled more elaborately, though her preferred hairstyle does not much change. Her hazel-brown eyes are observant and ever-watchful. Darla’s wardrobe can hardly be described as “ostentatious”, but her apparel is luxurious without seeming overly attention-seeking. Lastly, she stands at an average height for a woman at 5’2”, weighing 120 lbs and she wields a wand with her left hand.

History:

• December of 1866 | Darling and her twin sister, Dearest, are born to Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Doge, who already had two sons and were now blessed with daughters. While this may seem like a happy event, the birth of the newest Doge children would soon become a somber occasion for the family. During the course of her third pregnancy, Mrs. Theodora Doge suffered endless complications which only seemed to intensify the further along she became -- in fact, her pregnancy sapped enough of her energy and motivation that the Healers requested that she began her confinement three months earlier than she was supposed to. Unfortunately, even with the additional bedrest and the constant string of medical assistance, Mrs. Theodora Doge (née Wilkes) would succumb to fatal case of Intrapartum Fever a few hours after the birth of her daughters, but not before she was able to name her final children, which she requested be christened Darling and Dearest Doge.
  

• Summer of 1869 | Darla’s eldest brother, Charming, graduates from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with satisfactory academic marks. Being only two years of age at the time, Darla could not comprehend the significance of this occasion.
  

• September of 1869 | A few days after her elder brother, Valiant departs home to attend his second second year of schooling, Darla (a petname her father bestowed her) shows her first signs of magic at two -- nearly three -- years of age. It had been a fairly gloomy day; the weather outside had been foggy and rainy, putting a damper upon the moods of the two little girls playing within their nursery walls. Of course, Darla had never been a particularly rambunctious child who was in constant demand for entertainment, but she was bored and her sister had been amusing herself with her favorite toy. Put out, Darla pouted in her twin sister’s direction, her cinnamon-brown eyes focused intently upon the doll as if willing it to return its rightful owner. Neither sister had been expecting it, but a few moments afterwards, the doll flew out of Dearest’s grasp, landing in Darla’s lap. Pleased now that she had her favorite toy, Darla giggled and began playing with it, barely even registering her twin sister’s disappointed squalls.
  

• Spring of 1871 | Darla and her twin sister would begin their pre-education with their governess, a soft-spoken and polite Englishwoman by the name of Ms. Elizabeth Wells. From Ms. Wells, the girls would learn the finer points of social and personal etiquette, dancing, music, art (painting in watercolors and oils), embroidery (a rather useless pastime in Darla’s opinion), and foreign languages (German, Italian, and French). From a tutor, an Englishman named Mr. Robert Ferrars (who had a slight lisp defect, but also had splendid references), the girls would also learn classical history and geography, as well as literature and the art of writing.
  

• Autumn of 1875 | Darla’s paints her first proper painting, and is appeased when her father announces it “prettily done” enough to guarantee it a spot on the wall in her father’s study. It is then that Darla discovers her natural talent for the arts, and begins to focus on honing her skills in order to create an even more beautiful painting that she hopes would garner a position in the family’s main Drawing Room.
  

• Summer of 1876 | This particular summer was a momentous one for each other her two brothers. Charming would proceed to marry a young woman by the name of Miss Elphia ------, and Valiant graduated from school with strong examination scores in Charms and Transfiguration. However, Darla’s perception of her new sister-in-law is not at all satisfying, but she made no mention of her observations because she was aware that it was not her place to speak ill of her brother’s wife. Besides, many would deem her scrutiny as the result of childish imagination.
  

• Summer of 1877 | During that summer, her father would uproot the family -- including her Great-Uncle Copernicus, whom she found to be amusing company -- from their original residence in Devonshire to the ever-growing village of Hogsmeade. Having grown up in the calm and quietness of country life, Darla did not much appreciate the move to Hogsmeade, and her dislike for the village only seemed to increase as the population continued to further accumulate. But alas, it was her father’s belief that the move to Hogsmeade would be beneficial for the family, and Darla was not one to fault her father’s logic or to display her dissatisfaction outright.
  

• Summer of 1878 | Darla and her twin sister received their Hogwarts acceptance letters. As many children were wont to do when they received their letters, the girls were ecstatic and immediately begged to be allowed to purchase their school supplies that very same day -- they were gratified when their desires had been answered, and it was on that stifling July day that Darla received her first wand, an 11” Fir wand with a Dragon Heartstring core that is firm with a hint of swishiness.
  

• Autumn of 1878 | Darling and Dearest depart for their first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Having not been informed prior to her departure for school how she would be sorted into one of the houses, Darla had been astonished when she discovered that a hat determined where she would be placed for the next seven years -- mind you, it was a hat that possessed a mind of its own, but Darla still felt a little uncomfortable with how she would be sorted. Slightly anxious, Darla jumped a little when her name had been called, beckoning her to come forward to sit on the wooden stool so that the hat could be placed upon her head, and it was only when Dearest -- whose name came next to hers in the alphabet -- gave her a little push that Darla walked forward to meet her fate, the hat slipping over her eyes and obscuring the view she has of the Great Hall. The hat would then proceed to analyze her overall personality, deeming her worthy for either Ravenclaw or Slytherin. In the end, however, the Sorting Hat took her thirst for knowledge rather than for power into account, and Darla had been sorted into Ravenclaw.
  

• September 1878 - May 1879 | Darla’s first year was one of intrigue for her. Being a reserved and fairly quiet individual, Darla observed her new surroundings with relish and attacked her studies with enthusiasm. She discovers that she possesses a talent for wand-based classes that require first-hand experience, and deems Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms, and Transfiguration as her favorite lectures. History of Magic also easily becomes one of her favorite classes due to her fondness for thoroughness and detail. Darla would conclude her first year of schooling with exemplary marks in all of her classes, her dedication and determination being taken into account.
  

• September 1879 - May 1880 | Darla returns for her second year of schooling. Nothing of much interest would occur that year except for her decision to join Charms and Book Clubs (she would have also joined Dueling Club if her father had not been so against the idea), and being the overachiever that she is, Darla would choose Arithmancy, Ancient Studies, and Ancient Runes as her electives.
  

• September 1880 - May 1881 | Darla returns to school for her third year, eager to attend her new electives. Due to her desire to broaden her knowledge, Darla chose the electives she believed would satisfy her craving for new information, and much to her enjoyment, Arithmancy, Ancient Runes, and Ancient Studies gave just what she was looking for.
  

• Winter of 1880 | The head of the Doge family, Mr. Sterling Doge, passes away from a prolonged illness at the age of only fifty-six years. This development had come as a shock to Darla, who had been of the belief that her father could survive any obstacle that was in his path -- he had never before shown signs of weakness in her presence, but during the final days of his life, she had been forced to acknowledge that even the strongest of men could not avoid the cycle of life and death. That winter marked a new chapter in the lives of the Doge children, proclaiming Charming as the new family patriarch and leaving Darling and Dearest to be under their brother’s custody and protection. She would also learn during her mournful visit that winter that her sister-in-law was expecting, and despite her initial reluctance to accept Elphia as part of the family, it was pleasant news in a midst of a tragic event and Darla looked forward to the new addition.
  

• Summer of 1881 | Darla’s sister-in-law, Mrs. Elphia Doge, gives birth to a healthy baby boy. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, Elphia did not survive the birth of her son (who had been born breech), which left Darla’s brother a fairly young widower with a motherless child. Although Darla had never warmed to her brother’s wife, she had been quite saddened when she had learned of her nephew’s motherless state -- it was far too soon after their father’s death, and she felt sympathetic towards her eldest brother. The newest Doge addition is named Elphias in honor of his deceased mother.
  

• September 1881 - May 1882 | Darla enters her fourth year of schooling in rather somber mood. Even with the nine months of mourning and recuperation, she still had not fully come to terms with her father’s death. Of course, she has never been particularly close with the men in her family, but out of the four of them that she grew up with, her father received the majority of her affection. However, despite her evident sorrow at her father’s passing, Darla refused to allow her studies to be neglected -- in fact, her sadness only caused her to be more determined to score well upon her end-of-the-year examinations.
  

• September 1882 - May 1883 | Darla returns to Hogwarts for her fifth year where the professors stressed the importance of O.W.Ls. Darla had been disappointed to acknowledge that she had not been elected Prefect for her house, but she consoled herself with the fact that Prefect duties would have limited the amount of time she could study for her O.W.Ls. Darla passes her fifth year with the following examination scores:

She has hopes of becoming Head Girl in her seventh year, and ensures that her behavior is exemplary and her marks excellent enough to catch the attention of the school authorities. Unfortunately, having been overlooked as Prefect potential in favor of another, her chances of being selected as Head Girl is fairly slim.

Personality:

• Shrewd and calculating, Darla is a fairly intelligent young woman with a thirst for knowledge and a fondness for art and its history. Although not exactly introverted, Darla is rather secretive and tends to come across as reserved and haughty, priding herself on being above pettiness and trivialities. She is disciplined and acutely perceptive, noticing certain affairs and concerns that others would most likely overlook. Darla is a very thorough person and enjoys detail. She possesses her own sense of humor that only a few people can understand, her wit being dry and ironic. Finally, she is patient, pragmatic, and mature with a keen determination to prove that not all women were silly and absurd.
