While Wesley had never been prone to nerves, being run over by a mob of angry quidditch fans had given him a mild fear of crowds. Of course this was his wedding and there would be not riots today, but he couldn't help but to feel a little on edge. Fortunately a few shots of the good scotch and a ceremony later, Wes was sitting comfortably beside Lucinda at their table, waiting for dinner. His hip ached something fierce, but he was not about to complain. The damned injury had already postponed their wedding once, he wasn't about to go on about it now.

Hopefully with a little rest, he'd be able to squeeze in a few dances before the joint gave out on him completely for the night. Sometimes Wes felt like an eighty year old man, but he definitely was not about to let it stop him from enjoying the day and letting Lucinda do the same. Casually draping his arm over the back of Luce's chair, he leaned over to plant a kiss on her cheek before looking out around the modest ballroom of his childhood home. Using his family home in Galway had been a genius idea, whomever's it happened to be.

"Enjoying yourself Mrs. Cavanaugh?" He teased. Wesley was well aware of Lucinda's thoughts on how the wedding should go and he hoped it lived up to her expectations. The ballroom was decorated lavishly with holly and ivy, mistletoe and evergreen trees, floating candles and anything else they could think of in spirit of the season. They had waited for everybody to enjoy Christmas at home with their families before the ceremony was due to start and everybody would be leaving with a little Christmas present for joining them today. Overall, Wes certainly had no complaints about the day so far.

    Lucinda was married.

    Finally.

After months of planning and the stress of Wesley's injury and crying on Rue at least once that morning, she had finally become Mrs. Wesley Cavanaugh in a ceremony that was everything she had wanted. The winter wedding was excellent, she thought - oh, it suited her coloring, and the holly in the hall was seasonal and charming, and when Wesley planted a kiss on her cheek she couldn't think of anything she'd change about their day. Anything at all. The home in Galway, the late in the day wedding - it was all excellent and Luce was quite frankly impressed with everyone involved. (Including herself.)

She did want to know where they were going to have their honeymoon, but she could try to figure that out later.

"Immensely," Lucinda said with an impossibly bright grin, "And how does it feel to be married, Mr. Cavanaugh?"

"I daresay it's agreeing with me quite nicely." Wes grinned, adjusting his position in his seat, off his bad hip, which brought him even closer to his bride. Soon enough this would be over and they'd be off to Spain (?) for two whole weeks. It would be the new year by the time they returned and Wes rather thought he was looking forward to it. They still had the matter of a house to settle; kick his brothers out of the current one and stay there, or buy a new one. Regardless, he wanted Lucinda's input on the matter, but again, figured that was something they could either casually discuss it on their trip or wait until they got back. He was in no rush.

Watching the comings and goings of the wedding, Wesley sighed contentedly. "Was it what you wanted, despite the delay?" Truthfully, this setting was so spectacular, the snow, the candles, everything. It had a certain ambiance about it. Wes was a bit of a romantic, not too terrible, but it appealed to the little part of him that was. Plus if it was what Luce wanted, well then that's what she would get. Then again, he kind of doubted it was very often that she went without what she wanted.

Lucinda beamed. "It was everything I wanted," she affirmed, without even a hint of reluctance. The wedding had been everything she ever could have hoped for - and he had been right, the snow had been perfect for atmosphere. And now that they were married, she would surely have an easier time keeping Wesley away from riots!

"Now I just want to know where we're going after this," she said, with a smirk. She was sure that it would be somewhere excellent - Wesley did not fail her very often, after all, and it would be very difficult to disappoint her as far as honeymoon locations were concerned.

Wesley assumed every married couple had this discussion at their reception, but Wesly was not giving in to his wife's curiosity. "That my dear," He paused to smack a kiss on her cheek. "Is something you will find out soon enough." The following smirk couldn't be described as anything other than cheeky.

"Don't rush this, I'm almost up for a dance." Wesley continued to tease. In his youth he'd been good at dancing and even for a bit after his first injury. Now he had little hope of making it through a nice slow waltz, but damn it if he wasn't going to dance on his own wedding day. At least he was not bound to a rolling chair; that he could not have handled. With enough balance of rest and regained strength he would be fine, just like last time.

Lucinda pursed her lips at Wesley in mock-displeasure before beaming at him, the corners of her eyes crinkled up with amusement. She really did want to know now where they were going, but it didn't seem likely that Wesley was just going to up and tell her - no matter how much she wanted him to.

"Oh good," Lucinda said with a bright smile. She had danced with her father and even with Sebastian, which had been fun, but she really did want to dance with Wesley - unless, of course, it meant that he was going to fall over and embarrass himself. But she trusted him to be able to know his own limits.

Now was going to be as good of a time as ever. His hip didn't ache terribly, thanks to little fortifying potion before dinner. He'd already made the musicians aware of his need for a waltz and to be on the lookout for his signal to cue one. Wes was not an idiot and knew events like this sort of had a schedule to them, so he could wait out this current song, but if he waited too long or sat too long, he'd be absolute rubbish at it. He owed Luce that much for having to push back and rearrange everything because of his injury.

"A waltz?" Wes prompted his wife, looking at the cellist, a friend of a friend, trying to catch his eye and warn him. "I'm afraid quadrilles are no longer in my repertoire." Not that he'd ever been particularly good at them to begin with, despite his Irish heritage. Anything that involved such quick steps were not anything he could keep up with any more.

"Waltzes are better anyways," Lucinda said with surety. She wasn't lying, either - quadrilles were hard, and she had never been terribly good at them. Waltzes were easy, they were romantic, and if she was only going to weasel one dance out of her husband - husband! - then she certainly preferred that it be a waltz.

She worried that Wesley exaggerated how he was feeling - ever since he had gotten trampled, Lucinda had been constantly peripherally aware of his bad hip. She never wanted to have to go to the hospital for him again; she had cried more when he was there than she had in years.

"A waltz it will be then." He grinned playfully at his wife, having gotten the musician's attention to change the music. Nobody argued with the bride on the day of the wedding, but few people were poised to disagree with the groom either, though even between a battle of the newlyweds, Wesley would inevitably lose. Fortunately for him, he did not mind losing to Lucinda, no matter the reason.

Pushing his chair back slowly, Wes stood carefully, favoring his good leg and ignoring any aches he felt as he straightened. Holding a hand out for Luce, he left his cane resolutely where it was, unnecessary for dancing anyway. Luce would no doubt fret, which he thought unlike her, as he knew he was perfectly fine; it was like she didn't believe him.

The music began once they were on the dance floor and with more effort than he would ever admit, Wes swung his wife into motion. "See? Perfectly fine." He quirked an eyebrow at her in amusement.

    She was very worried.

Of course she trusted Wesley to be smart, and of course she thought that he knew his leg better than she did - but he had also very recently been broken, and it was going to be a very ominous start to their marriage if he messed up his leg again on their wedding day!

Now that they were actually on the dance floor, though, it was harder to be nervous. Lucinda flashed a grin at her husband - she'd have to get used to signing letters as Mrs. Cavanaugh! - as he whirled her through the motions.

"All right, you've got it," she said, wrinkling her nose at him. Surely he could handle one dance - and surely she could try to refrain from obsessing for a few minutes.

(Even if he really should have had his cane!)

Ha, success! Wes knew this would probably come back to bite him in the ass later, but for right now he was quite content. The hospital had given him some pretty good pain potions, which he hopefully wouldn't need too many of, but maybe by the time it was time to sleep a little something wouldn't hurt.

"I used to be pretty good at this, once upon a time." He lamented, grin firmly in place to let Lucinda know he was just kidding. He had been good at it back before his first injury, but that was only to impress ladies, which he thankfully no longer had to do.

Spinning Luce out and back was about as fancy as this dance was going to get, but he did so anyway, resuming the slow sway of the steps after, still grinning. "But I do have a few tricks up my sleeve still."
