Blanche Chaucer v. Demetrio Villalobos

What the fuck was that last name? That wasn't English. It wasn't even French. Spanish, maybe? Marius didn't speak Spanish. Did he care about pronouncing it right? He couldn't decide.

Whatever.

He read off the rules.

"Miss Chaucer to start!"

Alright, time to focus. She smoothed down her dress, offered her opponent a curtsy, and then attempted to transfigure a fan she had brought along into a pair of doves.

Deme bowed to the pretty, young lady before casting Expulso on the dummy. At least a dummy meant that he could let off some powerful spells without worrying about hurting anyone.

As far as explosions went, that one was not very impressive - oh, the dummy's arm rocketed off, but Marius had seen expulso before and knew that it was generally much more powerful. The doves, meanwhile, were basically perfection.

"Miss Chaucer takes the round," he said, "Mr. Vill-a-lo-bos may begin the next."

Deme cast duro in the hopes of turning the dummy to stone.

She had won the first round! Peering at the doves she had transfigured, Blanche waved her wand again, hoping to turn the two birds into a sculpture, transfigured into marble and perched on a branch of a marble tree.

Both had been successful, but Marius thought that Miss Chaucer's Transfiguration had been much more ambitious. "Miss Chaucer wins the duel!" he announced in a genuinely bright tone.
