Our Birthday

Topaz convinced one of the house elves who cleans the dorms to help her, so Ruby's present will just appear on her bedside table the night before their birthday.

It's a small bottle of hair-straightening tonic from J. Pippins Potions with a large red bow on the neck of the bottle, and the following note:

Ruby,

Happy Birthday. I know it probably doesn't feel as happy as it should--at least for me it doesn't--but everything is going to get better, I promise. We're going to get through this and we'll come out on top, because between the two of us we can do anything.

I think this potion should work. I tested it on a tiny bit of my hair and it didn't turn anything orange.

Dearest Topaz,

You are the best sister I could have asked for. We were blessed to have each other at a time like this. I agree that our birthday isn't as great as it should have been, but we won't let that grind us down, will we? We're strong because we're together.

Your present is very appreciated and puts mine to shame. I would have gotten you a book, but I didn't know what you would have liked (you have a better taste in literature than me), so I made you these instead.
