    • “It is not difficult to keep up—or shall I have to have you replaced?” Threnody snapped at the nanny. The poor woman tasked with wrangling Eros and Artemis was no doubt slowed by the children’s unwillingness to behave, but the veela did not see it that way—even if she herself was not overly fond of the younger of the pair, they were still her children, and the other woman was still the help.

The park was particularly sunny today, a pleasing change after the dreary clouds that had crowded overhead for the past few days. It was, however, windy, a fact which quickly got the better of the veela when it lifted the hat from her head and took it away. Threnody gasped in surprise, but there was little enough she could do—the nanny was doing something with the children, and while the woman ordinarily could have magiced a solution (if she asked why Threnody herself never used magic, it was not within earshot), she did not know to try.

Jonathan was still not sick of snow, and so of course he had pranced into Padmore Park after work.

He was tossing a snowball in the air and then catching it again. Jon had no real intention of throwing it at anyone - well, not unless he saw anyone he actually knew - but Padmore Park was a hotspot for children and it was best to appear armed at all times.

He dropped the snowball as he saw a woman's hat caught by the wind. Jon drew his wand, fumbled with it, and then cast "Accio hat!"

It flew over to him and he held it carefully in one hand, pocketing his wand again. Jon trotted over to the tall, captivating as woah woman the wind had stolen it from.

Jon bowed and held out the hat. "I believe this is yours?"

    • A young gentleman did what Threnody could not, plucking the hat from the wind’s clutches with ease and promptly returning it to her.

The veela offered him a warm smile as she accepted the wayward covering, both hands busy properly pinning it into place as she thanked him. “Your efforts are greatly appreciated, Sir; I should have been quite bereft without it.” Satisfied that the hat was unlikely to attempt an escape again, she focused more fully on the charming man before her.

“Might I know my saviour’s name?”

She really was enchanting - Jon was very pleased with himself for having rescued her hat, because now he had a very good excuse for talking to her. "Well, I couldn't not help you," Jon said, "What sort of person would I be if I didn't?"

"Jon Webster," he added with a half-bow thing, "May I have the pleasure of knowing your name, Miss?" Jon grinned with what he was certain was his most charming smile.

    • “Threnody.”

The word left her lips like a song, and was alone—no pesky surname to tie her to this man or that. As husbands went, Edward was exceptional: a skilled lover and an attractive face, always eager to do anything she wished of him. But as women went, Threnody was not human, and so found monogamy to be tedious, whomever her husband. As such, the husband card was always held close to her chest, left alone entirely unless she should find herself in need of it.

His was not a name with which the veela was familiar, but that was not surprising—though not old, he was not youthful enough for quidditch, and there were few names besides that she tended to follow. Still, Threnody was quite sure she would like to become more familiar with him, and as Nanny approached with the children, the veela cast her a look that plainly said ‘keep on walking’.

Her burdens out of the picture, she turned to smile brightly at Mr. Webster.
