A trip to Flourish and Blotts was one way to distract from her considerably abundant free time, she enjoyed purchasing new books and now she had so much more time to read, she was going through them at a relentless pace. It didn't help that the entire library had been charred to a crisp meaning they had to rebuild that from scratch along with the house. Libraries took longer to build, however.

With a few tomes in her arms she was walking past a shop window when she came to a sudden halt. There in the shop window was breathtakingly pretty doll. Mariana wasn't usually one for paying a second thought to dolls but it had an ethereal look about it. She had always wanted to buy pretty dolls and dresses for a little girl of her own, boys had no appreciation for gifts or anything actually worth appreciating. It's emerald green eyes were perhaps the most enchanting of all it's features. She had to buy it. She had no way of telling what gender her unborn child was but... surely it would be a girl. If she bought the doll, the child was practically obliged to be female. If it wasn't a girl then she could always gift it to her youngest niece.

Acting on pure impulse, she entered shop. She emerged ten minutes later with the doll in a brown paper bag. Her foot caught on a cobblestone as she was leaving and in her surprise, dropped the books she was carrying. The doll, however, remained clutched tightly in her hand.

Burgundy was admiring the various window displays on this crisp November morning. The young governess was endeavouring not to betray her excitement at the surprise she was about to give her young charge : a brand new toy from Delight's Emporium, possibly a doll. As she was strolling down Diagon Alley at a leisurely pace - she was fully enjoying her free afternoon as Maddy had promised to be extremely good in her absence - Burgundy saw a lady dressed all in black emerging from another toy shop. The young girl barely had time to smile at her politely that the woman dropped the books she was carrying right before her. Burgundy immediately hurried to her side as the bookworm in her screamed in protest at such treatment of her beloved friends:

'You've dropped your books, Madam' she said unnecessarily as she bended over.

She gathered them in a neat pile, trying her hardest not to glance for too long at the titles and handed them back to their owner. The sudden effort had brought a flush to her cheeks and she smiled benevolently at the woman standing before her.

It was a miracle it wasn't snowing yet or else her poor new books would be even more damaged and she'd only just bought them. She was just going to reach for her wand to summon them back to her arms when someone else beat her to it, though with a little less magic. As she accepted them back with a little awkwardness, seeing as she still had the doll in one hand, she thought bitterly how her condition had rendered her annoyingly dependent on the help of others. If it wasn't a girl in the end she'd sulk for months about it. Who was she kidding? She'd be bitter about it until she died whether that was a year or a hundred years from now.

"Thank you, that was very kind of you," she replied with little warmth in her voice. She wasn't feeling hostile towards the helpful woman, merely a little startled and starting to regret her life choices at that moment. The doll was a mistake, she'd have a boy for sure now just because she'd been a little hasty. Tearing herself away from her distracting thoughts, she gave the books as good of a look over as she could with her arms as full as they were. They didn't look as pristine as they had moments ago but they weren't too badly damaged, there was a large scuff on the cover of one though that dismayed her immensely. "Oh dear, I just bought it as well," she sighed.
