The chilly October morning found Persephone in the Great Hall, a plate of toast and eggs in front of her and a foot of parchment lying open beside her. Anyone who knew her would know that this scenario was a bit different from her usual any of her usual mornings, though it started out as normal. The alarm in the fifth year girls dormitory woke her up, and after much grumbling and glaring into the darkness of her four-poster bed, she finally heaved herself from bed to wash her face and dress herself in her usual black school robes paired with equally dark-colored boots. Her hair, however, as tangly and long and blonde as it was, was perhaps the lengthiest part of her routine, and was what often made her late for breakfast and forcing her to make do with an apple or a banana until luncheon was served. Though thankfully, on that particular day, her hair had been surprisingly manageable, and she made it to the Great Hall with not twenty minutes to spare until class, but forty -- as such, she took advantage of her good fortune, and for the first time in days, was eating a proper breakfast.

Spearing a strawberry with her fork, Persephone’s eyes scanned the contents of her Ancient Studies essay, scrounging up her nose whenever she found something she had written and didn’t agree with. She felt that she could have done better -- perhaps added a bit more detail and delved deeper into the subject, but it was far too late to make any changes now, and she resigned herself to whatever grade Professor Darrow would give her. With a tiny sigh, Persephone put the sliced strawberry into her mouth and set down the fork, feeling full despite having only consumed half of the eggs and a few bites of the assorted fruits on her plate. She wasn’t going to force herself to eat.

She then proceeded to roll up the parchment, but paused when she heard someone to her right addressing her. ”Pardon?,” Persephone said, turning towards the blonde-haired woman -- who she vaguely recognized as being in the year below her -- her tone surprised and her bright blue eyes curious.

A month of being back at school did not annoy Seraphina at all. In fact she had the best of both worlds wherever she went. Her cousin Elsa had never been too fond of returning to Hogwarts, when Seraphina was younger she remembered Elsa uttering negative words about how much work she received and how annoying some of the students could be. Seraphina learnt that her cousin was right when she first arrived in Hogwarts four years ago, she came face to face with some of the most idiotic cretins that she had ever laid eyes on in her life. Still it did not stop her from enjoying her time at Hogwarts, her cousins thought her mad however to enjoy it.

Seraphina sometimes got sick of playing the sweet and innocent little girl that her parents were fond of, always showering her parents with smiles and saying words of adoration to raise their spirits. At Hogwarts she was free to do whatever she wanted, as long as she was careful that none of it reached her fathers ears. If her father knew what she was like at Hogwarts she was unsure how he would react. He would either be extremely proud of her or faint from the shock. Seraphina preferred to be different at home, as she found the method she used easier to get pretty things from her father as he always felt guilty whenever she used the puppy dog eyes.

She was one of the first to be seated in the Great Hall, her eyes shifting around as she watched more people flood in as the time went on. Seraphina wasn't someone who needed to be dragged out of their bed in the morning. Seraphina brushed her fingers through her long blonde hair which was usually held up in a concoction of twists and turns or in a variety of different styles. Today she decided to leave it down. She finished off the last piece of toast she was eating with a few delicate bites, and then wiped her hands carefully with a napkin making sure not to get any crumbs over her robes. She was a lady and would not allow even a tiny particle of dust to live on her robes. On the table was the latest copy of the Daily Prophet, she liked to read it and keep up with what was happening in the world whilst she was at Hogwarts.

Nothing seemed to interest her in the newspaper and so she let her eyes wander around the table. She began to scrutinize everyone around her, her eyes finding tiny little things to be negative about. From the way someone walked to how their robes were presented. Turning her head she glanced at the woman beside her, she did not find anything negative about her and so decided to begin conversing with her. Seraphina was sure she had seen the woman about the place and spoke up in a sweet voice "I do not think we have ever spoken before."

”Oh,” Persephone said, rolling up the rest of the parchment and stuffing it into her perpetually heavy bookbag -- she was impatient to master the Undetectable Extension Charm, it really would make her academic life much easier to handle. ”Yes, I suppose we haven’t.” After setting the book-filled bag back down on the ground, Persephone looked at the young woman, blue eyes scrutinizing every aspect of her appearance. She was a quite a pretty, dainty thing with golden-colored hair, bright blue eyes paired with some arched eyebrows, possessed the fashionably pale and creamy complexion that the era expected, and overall seemed neat and a lady of class -- there was no doubt in Persephone’s mind that they both belonged to the same social rank, though she doubted that the girl’s family was as progressive as hers was, which was a shame really, for (despite the girl’s honey-sweet tone making her slightly suspicious) the intelligence in her eyes made Persephone realize that she was not associating with some silly woman interests only lied in fashion and scouting the male population for prospective husbands.

Now quite finished finished with breakfast and intrigued by her new acquaintance, Persephone pushed away her half-eaten breakfast, her eyes still focused on the woman before her. It wasn’t everyday that Persephone found someone who interested her. In fact, besides August and a few of her other friends and acquaintances, most people bored her. She often found the student population to be rather ridiculous and immature, and she felt that it was her duty to show to the Wizarding World that there were students at Hogwarts who were driven and focused, who valued education and did not take the one they were receiving for granted -- especially from the female student population who never seemed to cease putting Hogwarts’ reputation as the finest wizarding school in Scotland at risk. As much as she was glad that Headmaster Black took control of the Hogwarts Hussies situation, she was still slightly bitter about having to wear a Chastity Bracelet -- she felt that it was an insult to her carefully constructed self-control, that she could not be trusted keep her cool around the those of the opposite sex.

”Well,” she stated after a moment, a little (rare) smile upon her face, ”We will just have to fix that, won’t we?” Bowing her head in greeting, a few tendrils of blonde hair falling around her face as she did so, she said, ”I am Miss Persephone Van Helsing.” Looking up, she continued, their bright blue eyes meeting, ”And you are, Miss?”

Seraphina carefully watched what the older blonde was doing - she did not want to look as if she had a problem with staring at people. As she certainly did not, she usually did not give someone the time of day. For her eyes to grace upon someone was a great achievement for the person, it was a privilege in her eyes to be looked at by her. She spotted the piece of parchment that the woman shoved into the bag and noticed the bag to be particularly full looking.

This caused her mind to travel to homework that she had not yet done, homework was an annoyance to her. She cared about education, she thought it a vital part of a young witch or wizards life but she still thought that she could do better things with her free time than do her homework and study. Seraphina did not like to associate with people of lesser intelligence than herself, unless she was plotting to ruin the person. There seemed to be many people at Hogwarts who were foolish, those who did not care about being educated properly - who were just there to have fun. Seraphina also loved to socialise, she loved to be the centre of attention with everyone's eyes upon her but she also appreciated her education. She could not stand those female students who just wanted to look pretty and get attention from the boys, Seraphina liked to pay attention to her appearance but she would never let herself become so degraded in the eyes of society. She would never be a harlot unlike some of the students who attended Hogwarts.

The woman in front of her struck Seraphina as a role model. Which was something rare for Seraphina. The only role model she had was her father, as she strived to have his attitude to the world. To be feared and also respected. This woman however seemed intelligent, she was also well presented and she spoke well. Seraphina detected a foreign accent in the woman's voice as she spoke, the accent was rather pleasant to Seraphina's ears. She did not really like accented voices, as she thought them to be annoying but this one was one of the few she actually found pleasant.

Seraphina's lips twinged barely upwards in a sort of smile, if one could even call it a smile. "I believe we may have to," she was pleased to have decided to speak to this woman who was continuously proving herself to be a worthy acquaintance or even friend for herself. She did not have many close friends, just acquaintances as she struggled to find people who she deemed worthy of her time. "Pleased to meet you, Miss Helsing," she dipped her head graciously, she knew a little of the Helsings as her father sometimes informed her of all of the respectable families as well as the families whom she should steer clear of. "I am Miss Seraphina Albrecht," she introduced herself, her eyes twinkling amiably.

Ah, Persephone thought after the younger woman had introduced herself, an Albrecht. If her memory served her correctly, the Albrechts were an influential family who, like many other Pureblooded families, valued their blood purity. It seemed odd to her that one of the Albrechts would wish to associate with her, especially considering the Van Helsings’ iffy reputation, but she wasn’t about to ignore the young woman -- Persephone thought Miss Albrecht far too intriguing to turn away from. Perhaps she was one of the less staunch blood purists? It seemed plausible, though Persephone very much doubted it.

”It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss Albrecht,” Persephone answered civilly, the minuscule smile still gracing her smooth lips. For now, she wasn’t going to question the reason why the young woman -- whose family she was certain was more well-received by society than hers was -- decided to address her (the answer, she was sure, would come soon enough), and so instead angled her body in young Miss Albrecht’s direction and cleared her throat. ”So,” she began after a moment, her tone curious though not any less amiable, ”if I recall correctly, you are a fourth year?” She raised her blonde eyebrows at the Slytherin, patiently awaiting her response.
