Appearance:

Standing at only five feet, Lucy doesn't have the most intimidating presence. She is relatively well-proportioned for her height, at least. She has a somewhat round, pale face, framed by long red hair. Her eyes are blue. Her nose is a bit small, though this is perhaps made up for by a set of full lips. Typically, she favors neither muggle nor magical fashion, preferring to wear whichever makes the most practical sense at the time.

History:

1866. Lucy is born the oldest child of Walter and Anne Hinton. The family lives in a small flatin London.

1870. Lucy is joined by a brother, Caleb. She takes her older sisters duties very seriously, though her parents don't let her do much of anything for fear she'll accidentally hurt him--she is only four, after all. Later on in the year, Lucy shows her first sign of magic.

1872. Walter managed to find a better job and the family moves to a slightly bigger flat in a slightly less shady area of London. Lucy, for her part, is thrilled to only have to share a bedroom with one person now instead of four.

1875. Another new job, this one considerably better than the previous ones, and the family moves again. They're still poor, but no longer dirt poor. The distinction is, of course, very important.

1877. The family moves one last time to Hogsmeade, and are assured that this is the last move, honest. Lucy does her best to believe this. At any rate, in the fall she's off to Hogwarts, where she is quickly sorted into Slytherin. Lucy doesn't care particularly for school, but she doesn't do terribly or embarrass herself, so there's that.

1879. For her third year, Lucy chooses to add Ancient Studies to her classes. It is the only class that doesn't seem horribly dull to her.

1881. When it comes time for Caleb to go to Hogwarts, it causes a bit of a problem. The family can only really afford to send one child at a time. It is decided that Caleb will go and Lucy will stay at home, an arrangement she isn't too fussed about. Instead, she goes to work with her father, becoming something of errand girl. She doesn't like this much more than she liked school, but at least she gets paid for it. The money goes directly to her family, but still, money is money.

1883. Having come of age, Lucy becomes a bit tired of running around for her father and seeks other employment. She learns of a secretary position at the Daily Prophet and applies. She isn't stupid, isn't afraid of a bit of hard work, and not at all above being charming and whatever else she needs to be. It comes with a price, though--she thinks Gulliver Doran is an absolute nincompoop. But she gets paid, so there's that.

1884. The Hintons manage to survive this blight of a year. Lucy considers moving to Timbuktu because clearly Hogsmeade is a death trap. Realizes she can't afford to travel that far.

1885. Still working for Doran, and most likely will until someone offers her more money to do something else. Has gained a certain distaste for howlers.
