Charming is a Victorian Era Harry Potter roleplay set primarily in the village of Hogsmeade, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the non-canon village of Irvingly. Characters of all classes, both magical and muggle — and even non-human! — are welcome.

"Are you always this forward?" He asked teasingly since it would be a very short thread if he just ignored her entirely. — Tobin Cartwright in Take A Peek
Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
In Minister Urquart's departure, wizarding Britain has been left with a bit of a power vaccuum. You both know how I feel about politics, but the word on the street is that we may have several candidates with which I disagree adamantly... Again, not that this is any surprise to either of you.
I have in the last month or so been working on expanding my business ventures into political publishing. This is slow work (magazine publishing is a bit of a wash) and has only just started to get off the ground, leaving me with tangible connections but little to show for it so far.
The key part of this is of course the political aspect. I have little Ministerial experience (read: none) but a great deal of experience in activism, which gives me more or less an extremely involved outsider's perspective on our approaching (& inevitable) race.
The point of this being: I have inevitably begun to weigh the possibility of a Ministerial race. As my longest-standing and arguably most pragmatic friends, do either of you have particular opinions on this?
You say you're weighing the possibility of a race as though it were not already a certainty. I presume you mean you're weighing the possibility of your entering it?
I think you would be at least twice as qualified as some of the men I hear ranting about politics at the club. At least you make sense most of the time when you talk.
Campaigning will be difficult, though... you'll have to actually talk to people and some of them would inevitably be eligible young women, who you are notoriously terrible with. Are you asking for help? Hannah will be laid up shortly and probably not terribly useful in the ways of throwing lavish parties and fundraisers, unfortunately, but in the meantime I suppose I will be going stir-crazy and could use something to do.
If you're elected, do I get perks and kick-backs for being such a loyal lifelong friend? Or for having swooped in and taken your beautiful young ward off your hands when I married her?
Yes, I'm considering entering the race. I considered it much more briefly last time, but decided not to for a long list of reasons. The list is much shorter now, and - well, what do I have to lose?
Other than, of course, my dignity when I have to talk to eligible young women. Your help (with parties, not necessarily women) would be immensely appreciated.
Obviously there would be kickbacks. What else would be the point?
What do you have to lose? Your dignity, as you mentioned, and your reputation and good standing in the club if you really botch things. Every future possibility of any sort of political career. Perhaps a few friendships depending on who else is in the running and what you're vocal about during the campaign. A good deal of money invested in parties with people you don't actually like and events you don't want to be at. For a start.
Still, what's the point of having money if you aren't going to throw it away on parties, and what's the point of having friends if you don't offend them every once in a while? It'll be a lark to have you in the running and it'll give Hannah something to read about when she's all locked up in the house and dying of boredom.
Have you seen the paper today? You really have to run, if this is your competition. Power has no political experience and he doesn't even make a convincing case for being a good businessman. I'm more qualified to be Minister than he is.
For Merlin's sake... With candidates like that in the running, I might actually have to run. I'll announce at the end of the month if I still feel positively.
