They live on a small farm in Roxburghshire, on the Scottish border of England. Her parents were at the end of their childbearing years when they had her and  Daphne and Hyacinth do not get along. Her sister is thought to be strange or touched - and would've been institutionalised if her family were wealthy. She will often behave in wild, childlike ways and is a well kept secret. Because of Daphne Hyacinth is quite close to her Aunt Margaret (known as Daisy) and Uncle Hyacinthus (who is much younger than Silvanus, and Hyacinth’s name sake) and cousin (male, late twenties, currently unnamed). The Sprouts, despite their name have quite obvious fertility issues which leads them to have small families and few children that survive until adulthood which ensures every child is treasured and Daisy treats Hyacinth as if she were the daughter she never had. Appearance: With a name that means insignificant or tiny it is little surprise that Hyacinth doesn’t stand out in crowd. Of slight build, and height (5 feet tall) her hair is neither dark nor fair but stuck in the murky middle and her eyes a hazel that depends very much on the colours she’s wearing though they are known to be far greener when she’s outside or working with plants, something she enjoys as she seems to have inherited the family green thumb. Her hair, more often than not prefers to be wild mass with curls constantly escaping from the tight buns and braids she tries unsuccessfully to constrain them. It is her most defining feature. As somebody who grew up with only a few outfits (which was usually just a robe, a muggle dress to fit in with locals and a good dress for special occasions) she has trouble understanding the concept of fashion as more than just a waste of money, though Daisy has made it mission that she doesn't look too out of place in polite society and at her work in the Ministry. Hyacinth has several hidden scars on her body - bite marks made by her sister in one of her tempers. History: PRE-HYACINTH: Hyacinth’s parents married for love in their early twenties, and with a shared love for herbology and potion-making they had a simple life with simple pleasures and income. Silvanus inherited his parents small, modest farm which meant everything they required, if not superfluous was available with a little hard work. Any extra income gained went into savings for a rainy day or to attain items they did not have, replace things that broke, clothes or acquiring strange and unusual magical plants. They struggled with infertility for many years before, when they’d finally given up, Hyacinth was born followed by Daphne three years later. CHILDHOOD [September 1864- August 1876]: Surprisingly as children, especially to those who knew the realities of the sisters fates, it was Hyacinth that was energetic, stubborn and wild an obvious gift for magic and growing things and Daphne who was soft spoken, quiet and withdrawn. Daphne’s more introverted nature meant that she was often the favourite of elderly parents who had trouble with Hyacinth’s pace though as Daphne would age the introversion turned into antisocial behaviour and she would often act out against her sister which for a while Hyacinth came to be blamed for. HOGWARTS [September 1876- August 1883]: There was no surprise when Hyacinth received her letter and went to Hogwarts being sorted into Ravenclaw where was acquainted with her cousins friends, to whom she came to be known as Little Sprout or Baby Sprout. She came to enjoy her time at school however found the culture very different coming from an environment where everything was reused until it could no longer be to one which as needlessly wasteful down to the clothes some students wore. Her cousin, having grown up in the city and used to it, tried to ease her way - though she did manage to gain at least tormentor. A boy, who paid quite close attention to her and enjoyed winding her up, though she vehemently dismissed those that told her that that meant he liked her. Her absence however resulted in the discovery of her younger sisters behaviour and Hyacinth would then spend holidays between the country and town Sprouts who would later relocate to Hogsmeade. When Daphne didnt recieve a Hogwarts letter it was to Hyacinth’s joy however it would cause an irreversible rift between the sisters due  to Daphne's resentment and the realisation in Hyacinth that she probably wouldnt recieve much of her parents care and attention from then on and that her best bet would be to do well in school and have a career, as the alternative for a woman, marriage was something that was unreliable and unlikely with her own prospects. Setting her mind to study left her oblivious to the romances of her classmates though had the benefit of qualifying her for financial assistance. She did exceptionally well in potions, herbology and care of magical creatures and also doing well in history of magic and the theoretical component of Defence Against the Dark Arts. She found actual wand work classes such as charms, transfiguration and the practical component of defense against the dark arts significantly harder. POST-HOGWARTS  (1883- present): It took a while for Hyacinth to find an occupation, eventually in 1884 becoming a secretary for the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures for she was too squeamish with blood to be a healer, and didn’t have quite the right turn of mind for any business related position. In the year between graduation and her employment as a Ministry Secretary she acted as a personal assistant/apprentice to a Herbologist/Potioneer which she enjoyed but quit when she realised that she did not have the ambition to take the occupation from something she enjoyed into a profitable business or career nor would it be enough to sustain her further into life especially as she came to terms with the reality that her sister may become a dependency. She chose instead to turn herbology and potion-making into a hobby to be done outside work hours and sought Ministerial work. Personality: With any luck: quirky, environmentalist, independant, obstinate, clever, romantic Sample Roleplay Post: To the undiscerning eye the two pots in Hyacinth’s hands looked absolutely identical however Hyacinth knew plants. She held the two out in front of her, feeling for the one that was marginally heavier, that had just that little bit more of a green tinge to its leaves… the one that if she pulled on the stem to unearth the root without wearing earmuffs she would regret most. Mandrake. It was an essential part of a potioneers garden but Merlin did she hate them! Before she’d become a Secretary when  she’d still been working for the Master Potioneer he’d told her to look after his shipment of mandrakes. No other plant went through puberty quite like a mandrake he’d said and boy was he right. They’d thrown a bloody party which she had had to put an end to while garbed with the thickest earmuffs she could find. She stared again at the two pots in front of her and let out a heavy sigh as she came to a decision. The bloody plants had somehow managed to swap pots which meant that her control plant was sitting in the pot which she’d fertilised with Magical Mikes Fertilising Agent and the plant that was supposed to be fertilised was sitting happy as larry in unfertilised soil. She scowled at the two pots and pondered just skipping the experiment and slicing and dicing the ingredients but that would come and then, then, the evil things would feel her wroth.
