Dear sweet Merlin, what had that been? What had started as a fairly boring event had turned out to be a near-death experience. Hadn't it been for luck and for Mr. Parkinson's quick thinking, Ellory would probably be dead now, she was sure of it!

Instead, she'd survived the ordeal with only an injured ankle. She'd broken it in the fall from the hot air balloon, but the healers had fixed it with ease. They'd given her some potion meant to restore the bones to their proper state and then they had bandaged it with some charmed bandaids.

So it was all good.

Ellory had woken up from a nap to a familiar face.

Merlin help her, Evelyn Abercrombie had lost too many relations of late.

That Ellory had almost added herself to the list had both shaken the witch to the core and made her question whether Regan shouldn’t have guardianship of their sister instead. Evelyn herself had not had nearly so…adventurous a social career when she was her sister’s age; how could she possibly have been prepared for the ill luck that would follow Ellory about?

Her ears buzzed as she sat at her sister’s bedside, and Evey knew that it was only a matter of time before she became overwhelmed and had to leave—and quickly. Still, the blonde yearned to be there when her sister woke, yearned to confirm for herself that Ellory was well. Needed to confirm for herself that she could hack this.

“You look well, all things considered,” she offered as Ellory did just that.
